What model of MacBook Pro?

If you connect an external monitor and mirror display which displayed on the external monitor?

Looks like a display problem. I would like to make an appointment at the Genius Bar to an Apple store.

Found my Mac Pro 2012 Tower responds more today with the power led and a red led light on the inside of the tower.  The subject of research and could not find anyone who had this exact question (unless I'm missing something) and I also have trouble understanding what LED light and how do I proceed.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Remove all external and off devices, disconnect all external cables

Check your GPU for dust/dirt/creep (where it "fits" of the socket), you can remove it but when undertaking this make sure that you are properly grounded at all times and the components are put in static free containers, then clean the inside of the computer with compressed air ensuring that you damage the connectors not blowing the white point.

Replace the GPU and follow the instructions to reset the SMC.

Reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support

    See the yellow highlight

Plug directly into a wall outlet connected to the ground not a power strip or battery backup.

otherwise, to replace the CMOS battery on the logic board, after that leave the device unplugged for 30 minutes or more.

  • Mac Pro start problem

I have a Mac Pro Tower, that will not start the first time I press the power button, the machine "lights up" in a way that the light in front comes on and I hear a click, however the fans and readers do not engage and the screen is blank. I am then forced to hold down the power button until it stops and hit the power key once again, and each time on the second time it starts. Now I use this equal parts of Mac on the Mac partition and equal parts as a PC, this problem appears when I start in two, but I put in this detail to explain another thing, I have a PC graphics card in the computer. I have all his own CUDA Driver Version that allows me to do it on the mac, but it might have something to do with it. Even if the problem persists when I have my Mac AFI graphics card in the computer as well. I also want to add some other details, nor the mac from the PC partition can go in "standby mode" or the computer goes back to be a brick with just the front light on. (Sometimes the LED keyboard works, and sometimes is not after the mode 'sleep'). In addition, if I restart the computer, it starts well the first time, as well as when I move from mac to PC partition. I tried to do resets of LANDAU and SMC and that has not worked, someone at - it ideas?

Thanks guys for any input you may have.

The next time that you touch inside, try to carefully remove the 3 v button cell half hidden behind the graphics card and check the required 3 Volts. If less, a new is needed. You can also use CR2032, which is used for the remote control-door garage and car-door-key original is BR2032.

  • Power Mac Pro 2010 problems

So I just bought a Mac Pro 2010 and it ran fine for a day or two and then I noticed that when he falls asleep the light never blinks and turn even a problem.

If the unit is off, when I first press the button there is a click but the led stays off and nothing happens. I have to hold down the power button until there is another click. When I press the button once again, there is a click and the power of fans on and the machine finally starts. Although the chime time seems very long.

However, when he goes to sleep, the monitor turns off, I can hear the fans turns off but never flashes as it should the. Subsequently, the computer cannot be awakened from his sleep. This happens if the timer is active, I press the power button or choose to sleep in the menu. I have to hold the power button to turn it off completely, then start it again. Also, when I press the power button to restart the same as above occurs.

I ran Onyx to flush all caches that I left my SSD (OWC E2) my Mac Pro 2008. I also reset the SMC and the LANDAU and also ran the Apple Hardware test. Nothing has helped and no errors not found in one of these trials. I tried simply have a HARD classic in this drive and removed all my cards accessories but that does not make a difference. Even when I start windows via boot camp the same problem occurs with sleep.

    Any suggestions?

I had a similar with a 2010 6 core Mac Pro problem except that the Mac I never sleep, so sleep was not involved. An Apple Store Genius diagnosed as a button battery failure and, eventually, the PS. I asked that the two be replaced since the support for that Mac ends. It's worked OK since then and at Pick-up, engineering was agreed that, while the battery needs replacement, the real problem was the PS.

Until the repair, one of the things that helped aims to let the Mac disconnected from the AC line for about an hour. Immediately after it by plugging in, he would sometimes start and then work.

  • Mac Pro 2009 will not start, no edge

On Thursday, June 16, I sat to use my Mac Pro early 2009. I noticed that my Mac would not wake up by mouse click or the SPACEBAR on the keyboard. The led on my Mac, so I immediately thought that it was a problem with the graphics card.

I force shut down the Mac by holding the power button. I waited 10 seconds and turned on my Mac back, everything was fine and I worked on my Mac for 3 hours.

Last night 18 June I sat watching television when I heard the ringtone on my Mac Pro, I realized was a reboot. I went to the wire and connected and everything seemed fine. However later in the evening, I noticed a flashing LED on one of my two monitors. Once the Mac was on (fans spinning) but no signal to the monitor.

I made another force off now the power button on Mac, but now when turn on the Mac there is no boot chime or control signal.

I upgraded the graphics card to an AMD Radeon Sapphire HD 7950 in April 2013.

Any advice would be much appreciated as I'm in the middle of a big project.

Could also be a Mac Pro RAM chip inyour failure, sounds almost identical to a question I've had recently, I found the missing question when I removed the memory card.

If one of the pair of cards, you will need to remove two cards.

Try taking the memory OUT n test each module one at a time. Also check RAM editing maps, if none of the four lights on the two cards is turned on it idicates a defective module.

  • Mac Pro randomly turns itself off (again)

Mac Pro randomly turns off by itself

I have never got rid of the problem. Even after having replaced my card stock (radeon 5770) display with Asus Strix GTX 980 Ti, used a Corsair CX750 only power supply to power it. Look like anything, it's over heating, im stimulate fans PCI, exhaust and intake to 2500, 2000 and 2000 RPM (respectively). his strong!

I'm tired of dealing with this old-tech, unreliable, expensive, overrated,... flat of the weight of the aluminum foil, so please find me a real solution/fix! I could easily put together a very decent PC that 'JUST WORKS' from what ive already spent trying to fix it.

whenever he stops, I hear a click from the PSU (similar to the clicking sound when you press the power button on the front, commissioning). Trying next turn to the after he died, sometimes the power button will not turn on right away. I had to wait at least 10-15 sec to make it work. When it works sometimes stop with click 2 to 5 seconds after pressing the power button. He sometimes dies right after the chime. It starts also through without any problem.

A few times when sometimes I watch the LED at the front of the Board (opposite the PCI fan) when he died, I see the two top LEDS blink once I hear that click, those who are highlighted red in the picture (not a picture of my Mac real). It also sometimes flashes when I press the button boot but used to power upward after that he died. Please, what that means?

  • Mac Pro turns off and restarts

I have a Mac Pro 5.1.  I recently installed a USB 3 card with Esata OWC.  Occasionally, the system will restart now.  Usually when I use DaVinci Resolve.  My CPU is not overheating. I have too much on the PCI bus?  It doesn't happen when I take out the card.  Here is the crash report.

I have a GTX 970 installed with drivers from the web. (I already had an installed 570 and had the same problem)

I have a card from Blackmagic with SDI IO.

I have a concert PCI 480 OWC storage.

    Thank you!

    • Global maximum 300W for all PCI Express slots
  • Mac Pro end of 2013 will not launch apps. most mouse clicks are delayed to the point of making it unusable.

    Hello community,

I have a problem with my Mac Pro end 2013. I bought it in August of 2014. It has always seemed to be a little weird, but I attributed this to the usual first generation bugs and not-so-stellar OSXs from the end. When it was available, I installed the latest update of El Capitan, 10.11.5,, and it seemed that Apple had finally deceived. Since the update, I enjoyed the use of my MP as much as other Macs I've owned over the years (a Performa, G3, G4, G5, several iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini - 14 in all).

Yes, computer on my MP was nearlly nirvana, that is, until a few days ago. It started when my mouse became very unresponsive and I just thought he needed a couple of new batteries. I put fresh packaging as engergizers in, but it did not help. The slider was slow and jerky, and sometimes it is completely frozen. I paired a new mouse, also with new batteries, the Member and experienced the same thing. Basically, the mouse was unusable. The slider control would come and go at random. I do not think that to restart faster, (which surprises me, because, in the past, I had to do quite often to operate properly). But I restart, and it seemed to clear up the problem at the moment. This strange mouse behavior happened at least a dozen times since the beginning, but generally, it did not last long and lightens without rebooting. I noticed that often happens during Time Machine backups are in progress, or when another CPU-intense activity is happening.

Unfortunately, it seems that this problem of mouse was a harbinger of things to come. Today, I started the MP of his sleep and clicked on Mail. Nothing happened. It confused me and left me puzzled for a while. I clicked on my browser, Google Chrome, and even once, nothing happened. I thought I should go in my applications folder and try to launch Mail from there to see if that would work. All the time that I did, I got a message window that says: "Cannot open the application"Mail.app"because it may be damaged or incomplete." Immediately after you read this, another window message, just like this one open and said the same thing for Google Chrome - "Unable to open," etc. Icons for Mail and Google Chrome in the doc are now passed to the application icon generic Apple, (the white sheet with the 'A' in the lower corner). Each application I click on since waking from sleep today gives me the same result. Nothing opens the application icon in the dock or the original file in the applications folder. Another very strange thing, it's clicking on a file opens the file in the application it is native. Strange, Yes, but I was able to open Google Chrome, clicking on a saved URL, and I open TextEdit by clicking on a saved TextEdit document. But the application does not open by clicking on its icon. I thought it was very unusual.

With this weird behavior also come a slowdown in response time of the mouse and keyboard. It is so slow that it makes the work on the machine, for all practical purposes, impossible. It takes 20 or 30 seconds to register a click. But, adding to the quirkiness of everything that happens, once an application is open, like TextEdit, the mouse and the app seem to work almost as if nothing was when working within the App on the other hand, the responses to the mouse by trying to use the finder or open a file from the desktop are very slow. A note on this: when I first the computer woke up today and ran into problems, I tried to open the applications folder and when it finally opened, there is no list of applications. In near-panic mode, I immediately tried the folder my documents to see if my personal files were intact, but no they had also disappeared, or so it appeared. I discovered later, having left the files open on my desk for an hour or two, that files showed later upward. It was a great relief. But the icons on several applications from the applications folder had changed to the generic Apple icon, for some reason any. I rebooted into Recovery Mode, but he wasn't able to do anything there except performing first aid on the hard drive, which showed everything be ok. I didn't restore from a backup at this stage. I had another option to try everything first. Re-boot after that nothing changed.

The option I mentioned was to try Disk Warrior on it. I ran the latest version and rebuilt on the hard drive, checked the material, and all that makes the software, I forgot. It took about 45 minutes to run. The result was that it showed some things which have been corrected, probably 8 or 10 items, any rang critics. I said a short prayer and restarted. Nothing has changed. Everything that I described before was exactly the same.

Exasperated, I came here to see if it was what I could glean conversations that could help me. I have not found something really substantial to help me solve the problem, unfortunately. What I found was that I'm certainly not the only person who has experienced problems of 2013 end MP of catastrophic proportions. It is obvious that there is a serious problem with this Mac.

For those who have had smooth sailing with them, be very happy. If I was. The question came out of the blue. Yesterday, I would have been there with you praise. I hope your luck tends and you never have to experience this level of frustration with a product. I mention this because some seem to dismiss the issue as flukey. But I must say, in all honesty, anyone denying the MP has a problem either whistling through the graveyard or they are so pro-Mac that they are not prepared to allow even a small flaw in the Apple armor. They are good people, but they are in denial. I know how easy it is to refuse to acknowledge the existence of even a slight stain on the first brand hand. I have fought wars of Mac - PC at the time where we didn't know what a Mac - but almost every designer in the country. We labeled Mac users quietly the balls also odd, unconventional and offbeat. But we knew we had the best product. We knew that when the rubber meets the road, in particular regarding graphics, we would spank a PC each time. The years 90, and even the first part of the century was a time when serious computer users aligned on one side of the road or the other, Mac or PC. A lot of animosity arose between the two camps, especially on the side of the Mac, because we were the underdogs, rather despised by the majority. We felt the need constantly to get our message to the number overwhelming dominate the PC users. It follows a sort of tacit animosity. And it became a proposal for a war similar to many Mac users, myself included. For people who lived in that time and have subsequently become more and more immersed in all things Mac, the war is raging on. This is the meaning behind my description of those who are "so pro-Mac". Again, it is easy to understand why this mentality still exists. It was not easy for us guys good back in the day. But it is now time for rational people watch mentality 'til-death-us-part and face the facts, which also means recognition of all prejudice deeply seated, illogical. This member is not good. There is a real possibility that it could be much worse than not well. Time will tell.

On the side of those who are unwilling to admit there are problems, of course, the argument will be, given all the members sold, he's going to be a dud or two, it's just human nature to be less - than perfect. I accept that. For my money, however, after having lived what I have with my Congressman and to hear the facts given on this site by several owners of the MP - and the absurdity of the incredible problems they have known - that any rational thinker must know at least the idea that means that we deal with a lot more here than the occasional, inevitable dud.

The bottom line is, my problems are not isolated. It is clear that Apple has a product that fails to a very rare rhythm of the brand. Once again, I have owned for a decade of Mac, all shapes and sizes, but I've never had anything that happens to one of them that comes close to this type of failure. How disappointing it is to me, who has worn the coat for Apple products for nearly 30 years.

I doubt if there is something that everyone in the team of technical advisors here at the Community Board of Apple can do to help me with this problem. I'm not somehow devaluing at your service for Mac users. I certainly welcome any help you can offer. I know you have helped countless others to find solutions to the problems. But it's a little different for you now with this model of MP. Your best efforts seem to be a bit anemic on this topic. And it's not your fault. Apple isn't talking, then you are here on an island of yours, grasp at straws to try to help. I congratulate you on that, but nothing I've read has shed significant light on this which seems to be a mess of real, first Apple class - currently without a viable solution.

Yet once again, I welcome any suggestions and thank you in advance to address even. I will definitely check here in the coming days to see if he has the answers.

In my view, the prudent thing for me to do now is to make an appointment at my nearest store from Apple, an hour and a half and let them begin to set. I'm not too optimistic about a full success to resolve the issue during the first visit, based on the experiences of other contributors. And I rejoice in water and the lift back repeatedly to do things, as seems to be the rule rather than the exception. But in this regard, fortunately, I'm retired and now do occasional projects at low pressure. It's great to not have the MP to put food on the table like I did for many years using my trusty ol ' G5. I don't know what I would if I still ran my business full-time and depends on this MP. Small businesses rely on their equipment to work. The major failures, such as this MP seems to display with regularity can quickly put a small company out of business. This failure is not a walk in the park for me, but I really feel for those who invested heavily and who depend on every day, only to have this mucking things up, i.e., when it is not in the repair shop.

Finally, I write my thoughts here to express my disappointment in commiseration with other owners of MP end 2013. These are users who were as delighted as I when Apple eventually replaced the G5 with this elegant, state-of-the-art piece of equipment. Like many others, I jumped directly into the train without reservation, and I paid their price without any reluctance. Plunking down to $4 k for it, adding on 27 "display Apple and then having to buy an external drive now makes me a feel a bit embarrassed, at best and, at worst, as an easy mark. The result is, I wasn't expecting this new MP to throw myself into a sort of computer euphoria, I expected just to work as it was announced. The only thing I added on and I thank God, I did it, was AppleCare. Before this saga is over, Apple will probably want that I had refused it.

I have not read all what you posted but I think a clean installation, even to an external and test simply install would probably tell a different story. I think you did an installation "backup" probably from a backup of TC. I also think that Legacy Applications from a backup OS x and third-party would be not beneficial. Try it, see what improves.

  • Mac Pro and Ram ECC, basic questions

    Hi all

one of the reasons why I bought a mac pro opportunity was the ecc ram.

When the motherboard firmware and os work perfectly together, ram ecc can not only detect the ram errors, they can be corrected completely transparent and invisible to the user.

But other scenarios can be implemented too...

-the system can cancel all user processes and stop the system immediately.

-the system can say "(ram erreur détectée, décidez vous-même à un) continue, b) stop, c)..."

-the system can correct the error of ram and continue, and perhaps somewhere in a "count of the errors of ram' system can be increased early warning"ram module xyz contains errors, please share.

So my question: what will happen in a mac pro (2010/5.1, with 10.11.4) when a ram error is detected?

    Greetings from the Germany

    Chris

If only some errors, then the user is not notified.

However, if there are so many errors that they may not be correct which usually results in a kernel panic with many banks to report errors.

Sometimes errors are detected during the self-test on startup and a few times it will be diagnosed led illuminated by the stick of bad memory. Also if you open System Profiler/About this Mac and go to the part of the memory, it does not say OK

  • Mac Pro power whirring noise

I have a mac pro 2.1 with a Radeon mac-flashed 7970, witch makes a fairly strong and annoying hum noise. It sounds like a fan bearing or a blade fan of friction or something.

Initially, I suspected the fan on the graphics card, as the noise got worse when I put the graphics card under load. But stop fans with my finger for a second did not stop the noise.

I checked all the other fans in the system by turning their speed one by one using a control application third fan, but that doesn't seem to cause noise. When the system was not under tension, speed fans only sounded like a plane taking off, no strange whirring / clicking noises.

I also followed him Nadim fan when running the reference of sky charts, and none of the fans seems to speed up the noise at startup.

The noise seems to come from the power supply area. I stick my finger in this fan aswel, but that also did not stop the noise.

My graphics card is put a lot of stress on the power supply? (seems unlikely, there is not much else in the system.) 128 SSD samsung, and 16 GB of memory, without HARD drives or optical drives.)

Or maybe just a case of whining reel? I never heard talking about the cases where it is is bad. Sound clearly audible with the mac pro onder my office with the closed side panel. It's about as strong as the average of a mechanical hard drive.

Someone at - it suggestions on what it might be? Anny information is appreciated!

    UPDATE:

I've did some more research and tests today, and now I don't know if it's the POWER supply. Further examination, the noise seems to come from the graphics card rather than feeding.

However, I got the mac pro crash on me earlier and seemed to associate PSU.

When I tried to run the benchmark in the Valley of launchpad, the mac pro froze for a second about, and then both screens of. Fans and LEDS have remained, and pressing the button did not stop instantly the mac of. After pressing the SPACEBAR and mouse movement a little I tried the button of power again and this time he did close some instantly. After reboot I met the gray screen telling me my computer restarted because of a problem, and I had to almost any key to start.

Later, I tried to run the benchmark of sky without the installed card via screen sharing, but that did not work. I did trie with another card installed, but who also refused to run the reference point. If unfortunately I have no way to ensure the sound comes from the GUP or POWER supply right now.

I think that there is still an old mac pro at work that I might be able to test the card Friday, maybe wil give me some guidance on the issue of whether this is in fact my GPU. And if not, I might be able to take the power supply of the mac pro at work and test it in my mac pro.

But I'm stil torn on the weather to suspect my GPU or PSU. the accident that I got today sounds PSU related to me, but the noise seems to come from the GPU. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Mac Pro 4.1 - No. USB or bluetooth after El Capitan 10.11.3 updated

I have an early 2009 Mac Pro 4.1 (2 x 2.93 GHz, 16 GB ram, 5870 1 GB GPU).  After the upgrade to 10.11.3, the bluetooth is indicating is not available and not picked upward by looking at system information.

In addition, the USB ports do not work.  They will power the led lights on an external USB switch, but the keyboard and the wired mouse will not work (red under the mouse does not appear).  I tried the front and rear USB ports and none works.

I can't get USB working on card PCI-E card USB3 I installed.  And this ONLY works if I start the computer and after loading in OSX, THEN connect the keyboard and mouse in.  If I have the keyboard and mouse connected at startup, it does not on the PCI-E USB port.

I tried to turn off, turn the power to the cord, out of RAM and resetting, out all readers and back, leaving the computer and unplugged for an hour, then restart.  This does not solve the problem.

I booted the Mac using OS x 10.9 Mavericks and everything works fine, the bluetooth functions properly and all the USB ports work fine.

So I have the feeling that this is a problem with the 10.11.3 patch.  The system was fine in 10.11.2.

Could someone please suggest how I can troubleshoot and resolve this problem so that I can use several USB ports and reconnect the bluetooth devices.

    Thank you!

  • 10 Windows installed successfully on early 2009 Mac Pro Quad but no network detected

I installed Windows company 81 on my Mac Pro without problem, using the WiFi Edimax EW-7711MAC of OWX adapter, which went very well under 8.1.

I have upgraded to Windows 10 company, works very well, "sfc / scannow" gave rise to no error, but the card WiFi has only a beta driver 10 to win, and I can't detect all of the networks. The pilot has been out since August, seems if it was questions, he would have been fired and Edimax support did not have any major problem with the driver beta for me. I had to run commands for the visible card.

Not sure if this is a gap in the Bootcamp drivers as I lost it scrolling and keyboard Windows functions or the beta for the WiFi card driver is at fault.

Device Manager sees the adapter, shows in the adapters in the Panel, just no networks are detected.

Can what version of the drivers for Bootcamp I use with an Early 2009 Mac Pro Quad to work with Windows 10? I saw some "hacks" on the boards, especially for the Macbook Pro. Curious to know if anyone has found a combination of driver that works with this model or as.

Can you check if WiFi issues on Windows using boot camp 10 solves your problem of WiFi?

  • PCI 3.1 ASUS USB to the Mac Pro running El Capitan?

    Hello

As the proud owner of a Mac ro 4.1 (updated to 5.1 and 2 X of Hexa-Core Xeon X 5670 CPU) I "suffer" a restriction.

And it is now old and really slow USB 2.0.

I would like to add a PCI USB 3.1 and I spotted the ASUS USB 3.1 PCI card.

Of course, this card is given only as compatible with Windows...

But I've seen a few reports of people claiming to have inserted this card in their Mac and have used successfully with several devices.

It seems that these reports are under "Yosemite".

I was wondering if they are always good with El Capitan...

I put the card in the Mac.

It seems to be recognized by the Mac Pro.

In fact looking at the system information, under "PCI" give "Expansion USB card".

    BUT:

    -No USB key I have insert mounts;

    -No USB stick plug mounts;

    -my mouse lights

    -the keyboard does not work...

    So I'm wondering if:

-El Capitan has got rid of the first USB support 3.1 to Yosemite?

    - Or if my card can be default somehow?

-If this behavior can be caused by updates, I made (Mac 4.1-5.1 online) + 8-Core CPU-online 12 Core CPU?

If anyone would be able to help me, I would be eternally grateful :-)

If so, the card can be sent to the seller...

    Kind regards.

    FRED

    Hello

Replying to myself: the card is functional.

And the material is not at fault.

    How will I know?

Simple: my Mac can dualboot on Mac or Linux Debian.

So I just started in Debian on the same Mac Pro.

Guess what? Without having to install any additional software, the card USB 3.1 is perfectly recognized under Linux.

To remain decent, I will remain silent and will not say what I think Apple tries to limit the use of their devices without the need of technique to do so.

I will now try to start to Yosemite to see if it allows me to use the card.

    Kind regards.

  • Ask for help upgrade (Mac Pro early 2009 2x2.6 GHz Quad-Core)

I am a videographer who has need to bring my Mac Pro from the dead. Cheesy with video files, but not parts of. My reading so far led me to look at in what follows. I'm looking for a better understanding of each of the following items and upgrades are beneficial and worth that may be too kill for a round of aging.

    1. Memory. I currently have 4x2gb or total of 8 GB of ram. I know this is ridiculous, I have not increased by at least 16 GB so far. However, I have read that memory can only help so much and that some of the items here are actual speed thrusters. How much memory is recommended for this configuration? Should I buy? http://www.Amazon.com/16GB-DDR3-1066-PC3-8500-1066Mhz-Apple/DP/B0098MLFJG/
    2. Solid State Drives. I currently have 3 disks internal thatrange of 500 GB to 2 TB. If I used that as my boot drive, where is the best place to install (see photo below)? I read of people installing in a Bay SATA HDD or SATA optical drive unused. I read good things about it. http://www.Amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-I...p/B00OBRE5UE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?IE=U TF8
    3. Video/graphics card. First of all, both mean the same thing? Are the belowonly of slots PCI Express 4 for this type of card? Also, can you have two installed? I have the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB series. What is the best way to upgrade? My research so far has led me to the GeForce GTX680. Looks like I'll have to buy it was good. 4. Processor upgrade. I'm intimidated by it due to intensive installation and prices. What would be the next best bet - upgrade to 12-core? Where to buy?
    5. Firmware? I've seen videos and forums on (4.1 - I) (5.1) or (6.1). I don't really understand what that means. Should I be concerned?

    Thank you!

-The fastest drive is a blade of base PCle SSD. Very very fast

-The bus SATA on the Mac Pro is only SATA II (3 GB/s) and connected to the bus SAT SSD is therefore limited to speed SATA II, not the speed of current SATA III (6 Gbps) drives.

-You can get cards PCle who accept the standard SATA SSD and who can get speeds of SATA III

-You can install several graphics cards. I have my 2009 MP, I have the original GT120 in slot 2 and a 5770 PC card into slot 1 (slot width double only).

A graphics for PC cards will not display anything while booting, as well as an installed PC card can be used for the Startup Option or special start-up as recovery mode.

-J' would upgrade not processors. Frequently reading and writing to disk is the bottleneck.

About the firmware, you can update the firmware of the 2009 to 2010 MP. Which allows the use of faster memory, using a processor six cores and audio mini displayport for the graphics card offline
