My macbook air keeps building a list of swap file 1.1 GB of files that I have to remove... .because my hd gets stuck. How to stop and cause? Please

This is what it looks like after the removal of all but the swapfile53... (I deleted swapfile1-52) each 1.1 GB

It is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, tokens of memory on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the boot volume.) This activity is relatively slow and causes the entire system to be less sensitive. It can happen for two reasons:

A process of long duration with a memory leak (a kind of bug)

Not enough memory for your usage pattern

Please note that if the cause is a memory leak, install more memory will not help. It's likely you have already more than 4 GB of memory. Hunt for leaking memory can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.

These instructions are for OS X 10.9 and later versions. Some details may be slightly different for earlier versions of Mac OS X.

When you notice the slowdown, open the activity monitor application, then select all processes in the view menu, if it is not already selected. Select the memory the real Mem of the treatment twice table column header to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you do not see this column, select

View ▹ columns ▹ real memory

in the menu bar.

If a process (excluding the "kernel_task") uses a lot more memory than all the others, which could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that constantly catches real more memory over time without ever letting go. Here is an example of how it's done.

"Wired" memory should be less than half of the total. That memory is not exchanged, but makes available physical memory that you may then in Exchange. If most of the memory is wired, which can be an indication of a leak memory in a third-party program that modifies the low-level operating system. Ask for advice in this case.

If you do not have a clear memory leak, the options are to install more memory (not possible with a MacBook Air) or less than programs running concurrently.

The following suggestion is reserved for users familiar with the shell. For a more accurate, but potentially misleading test, run the following command:

sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total

where process is the name of a process, you think of a memory leak. Almost every process will cause a memory leak. the question is how, and especially how the leakage increases with time. I can't be more specific. See the manual page leaks (1) and the Apple Developer documentation for more details.

  • MacBook Air keeps stopping itself and gives a report of Panic CPU. Repair warranty or fixable?

My MacBook Air keeps stopping itself, when he is asleep, or even using active? Some big long panic report arrives and I have no idea what all this means, what's wrong with it? She did this 4 or 5 times a week for 2 months now. I read here similar questions but do not understand the answers. It is almost always plugged in power, my 2 year warranty is updated until August 2016, 6 months ago, the motherboard has been replaced and told me that it looks like new. So what's happening? I need a repair under warranty again? I tried to copy and paste the report but I get a message saying that my question has invalid characters?

Check if your MBA has had a kernel panic.  If so connect and confirm it with these instructions:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT201753

It can be a clue to your problem.

    Ciao.

  • My macbook air keeps overheating also theres crumbs under key could someone clean it up?

Hey, I have a few questions? My macbook air keeps overheating and the fan keeps making a sound of overheating, and it will not stop (I downloaded an application that controls the fan and also cool that it can get custody and it helps as long as he can but not much). Also theres crumbs and dirt under my keys could someone fix/clean? How much cost these (separately)? And how long would it take? Thank you

On the issue of heat, try a SMC reset:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT201295

If no success, run an Apple Hardware Test:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT201257

Note that an error free AHT is inconclusive.

about the "crumbs", use a fine brush in concert with little compressed air to dislodge.  It can also be a good idea to open the MBA and inspect the inside of the foreign body.

    Ciao.

You use 3.82 GB to 4 GB of your memory. Something is to take all this memory, causing your computer slow down and eventually freeze. To see which uses the most memory, open the activity monitor by searching for it in the spotlight. Select the memory tab, and then click memory for sorting by the user higher at the lowest. What is at the top should not be more than 600 unless you use some videos crazy editing/rendering programs. You can 'leave' a process of this window if it takes a lot of memory. If you leave something, you will lose everything you were doing in the process (e.g. Word, Safari, etc...) Google Chrome is one of the largest memory there suckers. I don't know if you're using Chrome or not, but I give you just a heads up.

If you see multiple instances of Adware, remove them.

By default, there is nothing in the files of demons of the Agents/launch of launch system, so you can remove these items without damaging the computer. If you have an application that requires files to be placed in one of these files, it will add it in the folder. If you decide to remove items from these folders, what I would do myself, you will have to restart the computer to empty the trash.

With regard to the login items, this launch when your username is connected. This means that it starts running as soon as you connect to your user account. Things like Spotify can use a lot of memory, even if you do not use it. If you don't want Spotify to open when you turn on your computer and connect, open system preferences > users and groups > Login Items > select the ones that you don't want and click on the. This does not remove it from your computer, just prevents it to launch at startup upward.

Finally, there are user Agents throw that you probably shouldn't, particularly those associated with Mac cleaners and torrents. Again, you can delete everything in this folder safely. I suggest you to remove clean my Mac if it is in your Applications folder. Mac do not need antivirus software and most of the "free" antivirus software will tell you there are viruses even when there aren't any. They want you to think that get infected if you buy their product to "clean" what was never there.

    Good luck

(PS. The Etrecheck shows your excellent performance, so that your hardware is probably good).

  • New macbook air keeps freezing?

I got this new macbook for almost 3 weeks now, but I'm starting to worry about how it keeps freezing: it first happened a few days ago and still today.

I had a lot of windows open whenever (music, videos paused, some research, some word documents) - most of them is necessary. What is the reason for which the screen keeps freezing? However, I don't expect the new system to be crashing so easily.

It is better to contact Apple to the title of the one year warranty is?

The macbook air is 8 GB of RAM, 256 SSD flash drive.

You have one year warranty including free telephone support for 90 days. I suggest that you use. You can make an appointment at the Apple Store - Genius Bar store and bring it into service. You can also search an Apple Store - find a store - Apple.

  • My MacBook Air keeps the re-opening of the minimized programs.

I'll be in the middle of using it when it freezes for a second, then open all programs that I had previously kept to a minimum.  Does anyone know how to stop this?

Welcome to Apple Support communities, AWCarter!

It seems that you are having problems with your MacBook Air on iOS 10.10.5 gel, then opening all the applications that you have reduced. I would find it distracting me then I'll be happy to help you! Be sure to test the issue after each step.

Try safe mode if your Mac does not start -even if the start up your Mac, safe mode will ensure it starts successfully.

How test a question to another user on your Mac account - sounds strangely issue to a software problem. This procedure will determine if it is across your system or only related to your user account.

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - before going any further, I always recommend a new backup at this stage. It is always better "to have" a backup for a backup "need."

On OS X Recovery - if the problem happen in the user you set up previously, start up your Mac in OS X Recovery and reinstall the operating system.

    Take care!

Please delete "Little Snitch" and see if the panic stop.

Any third party software that is not installed on the App Store or by drag-and - drop in the Applications folder and uninstall by drag - move to the trash, is a modification of the system.

Whenever you delete changes to the system, they must be eliminated completely, and the only way to do this is to use the uninstall tool, if any, provided by the developers, or follow their instructions. If the software has been removed incompletely, you may redownload or reinstall even to finish the job.

I never install modifications of the system myself, and except as stated in this comment, I do not know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find this information.

Here are some general guidelines to help you get started. Suppose you want to remove the so-called "BrickMyMac" (a hypothetical example). First of all, menu using the product, check if there is one, for instructions. Not finding here, look at the Web site, let's say www.brickmymac.com. (Maybe it's not the name real site, if necessary, search the Web for the name of the product). If you don't find anything on the Web site or in your search, contact the developer. While you are waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be a request here as "Uninstall BrickMyMac." If this is not the case, open "BrickMyMac.pkg" and look for an uninstall button. The uninstall program can also accessible by clicking on the button customize, when one exists.

Back up all data before making any changes.

Generally, you will need to restart the computer in order to perform an uninstall. Until you do this, there may be no effect, or the unpredictable effects.

If you can't remove the software in any other way, you will have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third party software, unless you're sure you know how to uninstall in the contrary case, it can create problems which are very difficult to solve.

Try to remove the complex system of changes by hunting for files by name, often will not work and can make the problem worse. The same goes for 'utilities' as the 'AppCleaner"designed to remove software.

  • MacBook Air suddenly restarted for the first time

So, today I just internet browsing (Firefox) and using Spotify and my computer to reboot due to a problem. I'm a Mac user forever, and the computer never restarted itself. I sent the diagnostic and data use to Apple, but I don't remember what it was. Now I'm checking Console and I see a panic report related to the kernel. What is going on? It is a software problem? I have a Time Machine backup to the case where.

My computer is a 2015 Macbook Air running El Capitan 10.11.13

    Hi aliendays,

I understand that you had a kernel panic on your Mac and are eager to find out what caused it.   Without a little more information since the report of panic or knowing what you found in the Console application, I can't really tell you.  However, I can give you some information here about the kernel panics and some troubleshooting steps to overcome them.  You're already the most important step in keeping your Mac backed up with Time Machine.

  • MacBook Air Flash storage problem

So I just got a Macbook air mid 2012. It has 128 GB flash storage whilst running the latest Mac OS X Version 10.11.1 and the problem is that it is either showing wrong info or a lot of storage was taken over by something unknown. Apps took more than 50 GB of space even if there is no all the apps that are heavier than Microsoft Word and Excel. Acquired photos 8 GB and 4 GB audio which is totally false because there is not any music in there still. Please guide me in solving this problem.

For more information about the other category in the view of storage, see this support article. If the display appears to be inaccurate, try to rebuild the Spotlight index.

Empty the trash if you don't have it already done. If you use iPhoto, emptying his trash internal everything first:

    ▹ iPhoto empty the trash

    In pictures:

▹ Show of the recently deleted ▹ file delete all

Do the same thing in other applications like Aperture, with an internal feature of the trash. Then, restart the computer. Temporarily, which will free up space.

According to the documentation from Apple, you need at least 8 GB of free space on the boot volume (as shown in the Infolog) for normal operation, not the mythical 10%, 15% or any percentage. You also need enough space to allow the growth of the data over. There is little or no advantage in terms of performance to get more free space than the minimum Apple recommends. Storage space you'll never use is wasted space.

When Time Machine backs up a Mac laptop, some free space will be used to make a snapshots the, who are backups of deleted files recently. The space occupied by the local snapshots is declared as available by the Finder and should be considered as such. In the view of storage of the information system, snapshots appear them as backups. The snapshots are deleted automatically when they expire or when free space becomes less than a certain level. You don't need to usually and should not, remove snapshots them yourself. If you have followed the bad advice to disable snapshots the running a shell command, you may have ended up with a large amount of data in the other category. Ask for instructions in this case.

See this support article for some easy ways to free up storage space. A common waste of space is old backups iTunes to mobile devices. As shown in this support article, select the devices tab in the iTunes preferences window, select the backup that you want to remove and click on delete the backups. Keep at least a backup of each device you use yet.

You can use a tool such OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and discover what is take up space. You can also delete files with it, but not unless you don't know you know what you remove and that all data is stored safely. This means that you have several backups, not one. Note that CESO works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you use an older version of the OS, use GP.

Deletion of files inside a photo library or iTunes will damage the library. Such a library should be changed within the application that created it. It is the same for e-mail files.

Go further than if the problem is not resolved by the steps above.

ODS or GP can not see the whole file system when you run simply by double-clicking; He sees only the files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you must run it as root.

Back up all the data now.

Install the application in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it runs.

Triple-click anywhere in the row of the text below on this page to select it, and then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

    For ODS:

    security execute-with-privileges /A*/OmniDiskSweeper.app/*/M*/* 2>&-

    For PMS:

    security execute-with-privileges /A*/GrandPerspective.app/*/M*/* 2>&-

Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing command + V. You will be asked for your login password.

The application window opens behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will finally show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.

I do not recommend that you make a habit of doing. Do not delete anything as root. If something should be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then remove by safer alternatives. If in doubt, leave it alone or ask for advice.

When you are finished with the app, he quit and also to leave Terminal.

  • MacBook Air shutdown correctly

I have a Macbook Air (13 inch, early 2015) race Sierra.

When I shut down my computer it powers not normally turned off. I click on "Stop" in the Apple menu. The screen goes black but the backlight remains lit and lighting under the keyboard. It stays like that for more than 20 minutes before apparently power off.

The only way I can get to close normally, if I hold the power for 10 seconds. But this isn't the normal way and it comes up with a message the next time that I boot saying that it was not shut down properly.

I upgraded to El Capitan in Sierra during the last day, but it made no difference. The problem is ongoing for about 2 weeks. I've owned the laptop since new about 1 year ago and it has worked flawlessly until now.

The problem occurs regardless of whether the computer is powered or battery-operated. I have not modified the computer or used new material, given that the problem occurred.

    Any help would be appreciated

OK so I managed to solve this problem, based on useful information in another thread (macOS Sierra presents a serious problem that must be treated quickly)

The problem is that if you have MySQL running on startup, Sierra cannot stop, probably because he is unable to stop MySQL or processes that are running.

The way to fix this is to go to preferences > MySQL. Uncheck the option that runs MySQL to start automatically. You can also manually stop the process in your current session, but when I tried my Macbook froze.

Restart your Mac. Next time you stop, it should work normally.

It seems to be a serious problem between Sierra and MySQL here. You should not stop/start MySQL manually; and it will be extremely painful for developers like me who use MySQL on a daily basis. Apple - and if necessary Oracle - should work on dealing with this together.

How can I connect MacBook Air two independent observers (a VGA only; the other is VGA / DVI - I)? I have a VGA splitter, but using that made the two external monitors same.

I think that you would need some kind of hub Thunderbolt or separator you have. Just to be sure, your current solution made just two monitors mirror each other?

I've been "spoken in" purchase followed a resolution of 1440 p (rather than the 1080 p I initially had to buy) because I use several documents at the same time and was informed that it would be better for a 1440 p to be able to view side by side on a monitor. to see that it is from my Macbook Air 11 '' only supports a 1080 p resolution.

Is it possible that I can improve my Macbook Air 11 '' (without having to buy a new Macbook) so I can benefit from the extra it cost me to purchase a higher resolution monitor? "  Specifications are the following:

    Thanks in advance

I don't think you can upgrade your MacBook Air that its resolution is 1366 x 768.

However, you should be able to go down this resolution 1440 p on your monitor.
