my microphone has disappeared and I can't get working again?

Hello.

My microphone used to work perfectly. Then one day I had a new microphone and tried to make a Skype call. Nothing - I couldn't hear my voice. I went to control panel and the recorded sounds - record. He said that my microphone is fine. I selected "do not use this device" in a menu at the bottom of the tab. After that, Vista lost my microphone and have not been able to recover. I tried to check the sound card drivers, but Vista repeat myself that they are up-to-date. I don't know what to do - the simple microphone is no longer there. Nada. Nothing. I can't even try to adjust the line in - volume or anything like that, because I don't even have this slider. What can I do to recover my microphone!

I'm really late to this topic, but had the same problem and found in a search.

The solution works, but it is not the simplest solution, so I thought I have add my findings.

If you go to control panel, sounds open, click the recording tab and don't see any devices listed (or it says no device installed), just do a right click somewhere in the box and choose "show disabled devices".  Your disabled devices will be visible and you can simply select the microphone and turn it back on.  Uninstall the audio driver and updates will work, but it is so much more time.
