  • My usb port does not work. Device Manager says he has a "code 10".

My dad recently bought a laptop on ebay. It's a HP Omnibook 900 with a 4 GB HD. The previous owner had improved from the original from Windows 98 to XP with SP3.

It has a USB port in the back & it does not work!

In fact it is not even appear in the Device Manager! I need to select 'Show hidden devices' to see same the USB hub root. The USB port has a yellow warning icon. In properties, it indicates the port is enabled but does not work because of a "Code 10".

What the devil is a "code 10" & how in the heck to solve this problem, so that the USB works?

The port is powered. When I connect devices usb load they turn on & load, but, of course, are not displayed on the computer. My best theory is that the port can be usb 1.0 but the software is intended for usb 2.0 and what could be the cause of the problem. That's just guessing on my part because I do not know with certainty if the usb is 1.0 or 2.0.

It is especialy boring being the only external devices can I plug a CD player (unwritten) & a floppy drive. It would make my life much more pleasant if I could run software, backup & file transfer, etc. with a usb drive instead! It could even than the laptop quite useful to be worth the bucks thirties, my father paid for it!

    Help, please. Thank you.

    Hi SnarFoo,

    Method1

The Code 10 error code is generated when Device Manager it has not enough information or error that has spread upward through the device drivers is not recognised by the Device Manager. In addition, this error may occur if one of the pilots who needs the unit does not start. If multiple drivers are used by a particular device, it can be difficult to determine which failed.

See the article and check if that helps.

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then remove and reinstall all USB controllers on the computer and check if that helps.

To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

    (a) click Start, click run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.

    (b) click on the hardware tab.

    (c) click the Device Manager button.

    (d) expand Bus USB controllers.

    (e) right click on each device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.

    (f) restart the computer and reinstall the USB controllers.

    (g) connect the removable USB storage device and perform a test to ensure that the problem is solved.

  • iTunes not identify iphone or usb port

When you install Itunes on a new computer Windows 10, that's not identifies my iPhone.

I tried the possible sollutions 'all' found on the web, but nothing makes any difference.

When running the diagnostics on the computer it says that "Apple Mobile Device Driver is missing".

When you run diagnose on any iPhone and iTunes, it is said that no USB ports has been detected.

In the written report diagnosis (translated from Swedish):

    iPodService
    12.3.2.35 (x 64) is active.

    iTunesHelper
    12.3.2.35 is active.

The Apple Mobile Device Service 3.3.0.0 service is active

    No USB chipset was found.
No chipset FireWire (IEEE 1394) was found

Found no iPod, iPhone or iPad

The iPhone is connected by USB-cable and is dected by the computer and visible as a device in Solution Explorer, but not iTunes.

I have reinstalled iTunes, tried all USB ports, restarted the iPhone, followed the relevant advice on the Apple support.

I have no free support on me iPhone any longer.

The thing is that everything is working well on my other computer (Windows 7) with exactly the same version of iTunes.

Can someone help me why it does not work on my new computer?

    Try the following:

    1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
    2. Plug in your device
    3. Locate Bus USB Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible that the device may appear under imaging devices, portable devices or other devices or as a device USB of MTB.
    4. Right-click and select software update of the driver...
    5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
    6. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Apple Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
      C:\Program Files (x 86) \Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    7. Click on let me pick from a list of drivers for devices on my computer
    8. Click on Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
    9. Click Next, then close and exit the Device Manager

Or try If iTunes does not your iPad, iPhone or iPod - Apple Support.

If not try a complete tear down and rebuild iTunes in accordance with the resolution of the problems with iTunes for Windows updates.

  • USB ports all failure Tecra S1

    Hello

my old Tecra S1 video card died last week and I managed to find an another identical Tecra S1 very cheap.
I swapped my portable hard drive in the new computer and everything works fine apart from any of the USB ports work.
Food sent to external drives USB but my computer does not recognize one of the 3 USB ports at all.

I tried to remove / replace the drivers but no change.
Also as I had my same old laptop for spare parts I have even replaced the USB turntable (as one of the original USB ports has been damaged) but still no change.

Could this be something to do with the version of the BIOS on the laptop as surely everything else should be already on my hard drive?
Maybe my old laptop had an older BIOS which might make a difference?

any help would be gratefully receieved as I looked the net but don't have anywhere!

    Thank you very much
    Ian

    Hello

First of all, you aren't sure if the USB port hardware is ok for this second Tecra S1. Right?
So, theoretically, it might be a hardware and software problem.

Generally, the USB ports are controlled by the chipset driver.
You replaced the HARD disk where the operating system is already installed
I think you should try to install the operating system once more on this second Tecra S1.
Then you should check the Device Manager if all the USB ports have been recognized correctly.

If the USB ports would be NOT visible in Device Manager, then I would tend to a hardware problem

I think it's the Usb3.0 Port on the left.
While I'm workin with an external keyboard, the USB Port has stopped working and cannot identify the keyboard.
All other devices that I put there, are out of order, but when I put an external hard Powerdevice with separate data for laptop, that he is there something ist connectet, but can't identify it.

I have try all troubleshooting close it, like install new drivers, disable ports and restart and any kind of it.

So maybe you have another tip for me?
Or do I have to bring my laptop to the store for warranty?
A Windows 8 64 bit on it, maybe it will help.

    Best regards, neothic

Have you tried reinstalling the driver USB 3.0? Please try and check the functionality. If this will not help I recommend you do the ultimate test: back up all your data and reinstall Win8 using recovery media. Test it with clean OS preinstalled and factory settings.

In the worst cases, you should contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

  • Equium A60 - 692 USB Ports not working not

Hi all - new to the forum and what a good place to find info on Toshiba laptops. Anyway - after a recent storm, I lost connection to my ISP broadband - contacted the helpline who advised me to Exchange my ADSL modem to an Ethernet - made and corrected the connection problem - however - only after having it done I realize has none of my devices (printer, camera, Web Cam etc.) worked via the USB ports. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the system and drivers for devices without result. The device displays 500ma of power manager is available for each of the 3 ports but watch 0ma used. The Device Manager also shows that the USB ports are working properly. Can someone help or advise if these ports on a separate card or they are part of the motherboard. If Yes, where can I get a. Congratulations to all - Andy

A lighting strike is not good news, if she gets hit by a kind something can go wrong. My guess is that your laptop USB ports has taken suddenly by a massive power surge that probably damaged the chips inside. It could be a Windows problem, or not the only thing I could suggest is to use a bootable Linux such as Knoppix CD and run a command called usbview with some USB devices.
If the USB has been confirmed dead then your only option is to use an adapter CardBus USB 2.0 providing your CardBus slot is not damaged too.

  • low voltage to USB ports

Recently I started noticing that some of my usb ports has failed when I tried to use them.  I had a player USB port voltage and amp to check them out and discovered that they all were between 4, 7 4.5 volts.  So I was wondering if it is a question of power supply or something else.

Just as a thought after that I checked the charge rate of my IPhone and there montre.7 Amps of charge.

    The meter is accurate?

The USB 2 specification is no more than 5.25 V and no less than 4.75 V (5 V ± 5%) between positive and negative bus power lines (VBUS voltage).

    From:

    https://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/USB

Since 5 volts DC is part of the supply voltage, I suspect a problem with the power supply provided that the meter is accurate.
