My Portege R500 CD/DVD disappeared

I can't locate the CD/DVD anywere in my laptop.
The drive does not appear 'my computer' or 'Equipo' and if I go to 'Control panel' Control Panel does not like a hardware installed.
He simply disappear.

But if I open in and close it makes noise and seems like trying to read the CD.
But nothing happens. Please any suggestions.

Thank you!

Cabo

Hello

Please check if your CD/DVD drive is recognized in the BIOS.

If the BIOS didn't recognize the internal CD/DVD drive then the material could be faulty.
This means that the entire CD/DVD drive must be replaced.

Check everything first and come back.

  • Portege R500 - CD/DVD drive no longer works

Does anyone found a resolution to this?

Like David, my DVD Multidrive on my R500 abruptly arrested recently - I can open/close the player, but he does not appear in Windows Explorer as a disk is valid. Do not think that I have nothing installed on the machine.

Interestingly, I never really use the DVD player. Indeed, because of all the * heat * questions, I used to "Power Off" of the device, via the DVD icon in the system tray (i.e. option enabled me to Power on / off the unit). So while the power was OFF, it's cold the machine, and so the fan was rarely on.

Now that my computer no longer recognizes the drive, this icon it simply shows that disabled, no possibility to the power on/off switch, and this noisy fan is almost always on. In addition, because it seems that the machine tries to recognize the drive subject time at startup, all re-start, reboot the machine now takes a few minutes to start...

For the optical drive firmware update help? Or is there some other fix?

    Hello

    > but my Portege R500 CD/DVD drive has stopped working the next day, I had attached an external CD - RW drive for me to burn discs. Maybe it did disable my built-in drive?
    This could be the key;
Try to access the Device Manager and remove the CD/DVD player listed and all USB host controllers and USB root hub.

    Again, restart the laptop.
After new check restart if the CD/DVD drive has been recognized again.

  • Portege R500 - CD/DVD drive does not work

    I have the problem.

I just tried to delete upper and lower filters, but it did not work.
I called Toshiba support and they suggested reinstalled windows, which I am not a response, I'm satisfied.

I am running XP with SP3, and I'm starting to wonder if the question has something to do with the pilot is not not compatible with SP3...
    What do you think guys?

If you are not satisfied with the response from Toshiba the next step is to ask Microsoft what to do.
Toshiba has sent to your laptop with the perfect configured hardware. For some reason the reader doesn t work well. Microsoft offered this method with filters. If this doesn t work you have two options: install OS using recovery media and clean operating system again or check for other possible solutions Microsoft Knowledge base.

As far as I know, this issue has nothing to do with some specific service pack, as well as in most cases solution given by Microsoft works (the same thing happened to me once).

  • Portege R500 - is not reading DVDS and software of DVD writer?

We have a few notebooks Portege R500 and put our brand on them image very well.
I can't find the DVD playback software and the software editor of DVD on the download site, is it available? It comes pre-installed on the computer, but we do not want to use the image it comes with.

    Thank you

This additional software is only part of the image of Toshiba and can be downloaded from the Toshiba driver page!
If you want to use the software if you need to buy a version full or you will switch to the image of Toshiba.

  • Portege R500 - DVD is no longer working

Someone at - it ideas why my DVD drive has stopped working?

I have a Portege R500 - 11 c and in Device Manager I have a yellow exclamation mark against Bus USB controllers / USB Mass Storage Device
When I click through for more details, he said:

    Location: Port_ #0004.Hub_ #0005

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click on 'Search for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. »

Search for Solutions has the answer.

It is strange because it is power to the player, when I put a disc in I can hear him pull up, but it becomes visible to the machine!

    Pointers would be useful.

    see you soon,
    David

If a yellow exclamation point appears in the device, close the USB hubs\controller Manager, then a USB driver problem would be possible.
In most cases, a new installation of USB might help to get rid of this annoying problem of USB.

-Remove and disconnect all external USB devices that are connected to the laptop.
-Go to the Device Manager and remove the USB hubs and USB controllers.
    -reboot the machine.

New OS reboot should reinstall USB drivers, and the operating system should recognize the USB ports again. After this short intervention, connect the external USB CD. DVD player and check if it would show up in my computer

  • Need CD/DVD writer drivers for Windows XP on Portege R500

According to the Installation Instructions on the Toshiba Portege R500 with Windows XP for driver download site, I need Toshiba disc Creator V2.0.0.8 and Toshiba Direct Disk Writer V1.1.0.0 for my engraver of CD/DVD.

None of these is available among the files on the Toshiba Portege R500 with Windows XP driver download site. Where can I get these drivers?

    Hello Ad

I imagine that you are a little confused about missing drivers, but actually, you should install only the stuff offered on the Toshiba download page.

Please, do it and test drive optical with a burning software like Nero and you will see that everything works correctly.

One more thing about this document Instructions of facilities: this list is the same as the use for creating Toshiba recovery image. Recovery image contains many more things that you can find on the download page. I don't want to explain now why is it and for WXP feature on Portege R500 is not so important.

Important for you is to download all the stuff and install it following this order facilities.

    All that s!

One last thing: I have heard that Toshiba will create DVDs from Windows XP Home edition for professional laptops recovery. I'm sure you can order this DVD of Windows XP Home edition. Try to contact the partner of service allowed in your country and ask if they can order one for you.

  • Portege R500-124: where to get DVD Reovery

    Hello

Just got a Portege R500-124 and they wanted to establish themselves.

I have looked at the manual and see you can use F8 at startup upward to get to the recovery partition and do a complete reinstallation shape it.,.
but it would also be good to have a recovery media...

Is anyway to create this laptop?

This came pre-installed with Windows XP PRo.

    Thank you

    Ken

    Hello

    Where did you come from?

As far as I know the European notebooks from Toshiba are always equipped with the Toshiba Recovery CD.

However, try to contact the ASP in your country and ask if the restore CD is available for you Portégé R500.

If this isn't the case, then I recommend to check your system and installed applications.
Sometimes, there is an option to create a clean recovery CD/DVDs.
In this case, you will need to burn this image of Toshiba on the DVD.

    Best regards

  • Portege R500: Cannot restore Vista using Toshiba recovery disks

I downgraded Vista to XP loaded factory.
However, I would now like to restore back to Vista.

    I have disc 1 & 2 ' product Recovery DVD-Rom; Portege R500 disks.
They are also marked "Windows Vista Business (SSD/PATA)" has been provided by Toshiba.

I don't know how to use these discs to restore my operating system to Windows Vista. When I insert disc 1 and after loading some files, a message "cannot read the file source or disk - Preinst2.SWM" and I can not go any further.

An instruction step by step would be greatly appreciated

I wonder why you receive two recovery disks. As far as I know Toshiba Vista Recovery image is stored on a DVD.
Perhaps you have received two CD

In any case, have you tried to boot from the second disk? I mean the second recovery CD?

Usually, recovery is not very sensitive. You must boot from the disc and should follow the instructions on the screen.

The error cannot read from the source file or disk - Preinst2.SWM looks like a little to the Conference on disarmament would not readable or the CD/DVD drive would not read the disc properly.

  • Portege R500: Card reader SD and ODD do not work - drivers needed

I have laptop portege R500, product number: PPR50E-04X04WCE.

last year, I changed the operating system and installed windows 7.
Since then, I can't use the dvd drive or the sd card reader.
And the control panel it apears two unknown devices, but I can´t find the controllers for these.

What can I do to fix this?

I assume you found unknown devices in Device Manager.
    Check it please http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=78
Here you can find instructions how to identify the unknown devices.

I checked the Toshiba download under http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp page and your Portege is listed there, but under the option ARCHIVE. It is supported for Win7 so there is no problem to install all the drivers available.

Check it out please and let us know if you still have the same problem.

  • Problem reading SD card after the mode reader 'sleep' Portege R500 SP1

    Hi all

I still have the problem, that my new Portege R500 with Vista SP1 does nor react when reading / writing on a SD card. This only happens when the SD card is inserted and I wake the R500 from his sleep. All read or written in the SD card will lock the PC and the R500 must be turned off hard. I tried this with different SD cards with always the same result. The R500 was freshly installed from the recovery DVD and even installing from a DVD SP1 Microsoft at any time has the same exact behavior. All the drivers are up to date, Bios 1.60. I also tried to remove the entry in Device Manager and reinstalled.

I found on the Microsoft site a patch, that describes exactly this issue: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936825 | http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936825]. But this patch cannot be installed under Vista SP1. Microsoft says that it is already included in the Vista SP1. But it still does not.

Any other idea? Or what I have to live with it?

    Best regards
    Stefan

    Hello Stefan

I can imagine that this problem is quite annoying for you, but otherwise, you can disconnect SD card when you have no more need. I can't imagine that it must be inserted at all times.

I can imagine there are a few conflicts between the patches from Microsoft and Toshiba driver but such bugs should be fixed by some Toshiba updates or hotfixes Microsoft. What to say? I'm afraid at the moment that you must live with it.

By the way: post please exactly the model of mobile number and give some info on the SDCard (capacity). Perhaps someone with the same model laptop and the same card can test and view the results.

As far as I know it of not easy to replace the STRANGE because it s hidden under the bottom cover, this cover should be removed first to access the CD/DVD drive, HARD drive, etc.
But I found a useful page:

  • Portege R500: no action when a music or other disc is inserted

My new (30 days) Portege R500 took just the same problem.

The DVD player is always on (indicator lite) and seems to be trying to read the discs but
-No file shown in windows Explorer
-no action when a music disc or another type that is defined for "autoplay" is inserted.
It worked when I got it.

Anyone from Toshiba tell me whether there is a systemic hardware problem?
There are other posts that seem to have the same problem?

    Thank you

    Hello

    > no file shown in windows Explorer
I think that you should boot from the recovery disc and should reinstall the new OS.
Then check if your CD/DVD drive would recognize the inserted disc.
In addition, you must remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    In many cases, it helps.

If two procedures will not help a Toshiba ASP should take a look on this laptop and check the STRANGE.
Perhaps the problem could be related to hardware (I don't think)

  • Portege R500 driver CD turns but not recognized

    Hello

I have a Portege R500 in 8 months and 3 months ago, CD drive disappeared from the Device Manager and despite fiddling with the registry file (don't remove the top filter, there was no lower filter) is still u/s.

I think the problem is a driver like when it starts it constantly tries to turn the cd before you go start. I use a dynadock to connect to my lan work.

    Any help gratefully received.

Have you tried another OS (for example, a live recording of ubuntu)? We know at least that it is a hardware or software problem...

  • What is operation temperature of the processor on your Portege R500?

I have a laptop Portege R500 in series with processor U7600 and would * like to know what other users average operating temperature is for normal office use * i.e. Word processing, watching DVD/youtube, surfing the net, etc.

I ask because I recently bought a used dock (port replicator ii) and also upgraded the OS on the laptop. It seems to me that there may be a problem, because under heavy use (compilation of software) performance appears to deteriorate on the machine - only solution seems to be turning the device off and leave it for a few minutes.
Even when I don't have something heavy - such as typing this message, the CPU temperature lingers in the 1980s high (Celsius).

I've seen on the forums that other people have had on this model of laptop overheating problems. My machine is about three and a half years of age. I opened and cleaned the fan in the air compressed and checked that it actually turns when turned on. However, I don't think a lot of air if I put my hand next to the exhaust, when turned on.

Is someone can confirm if the exhaust is supposed to s u c k or expel air? Can you confirm your time average CPU? Anyone having problems with dock causing overheating?

    Thanks in advance!

Can you please tell us what OS you use and what application you use to check the temperature of the processor?

  • CTRL key is lost after installing XP on Portege R500

I recently got rid of Vista and installed my XP SP3 on Portege R500 (deleted all partitions in Vista and created 2). However after that all the drivers and software from Toshiba are installed, I realize that both 'Ctrl' keys on the laptop don't work, and they are the only keys that do not work. I need to use the external USB keyboard to have functions of "Ctrl".

No one knows why the ' CTRL ' disappeared? Is it a hardware driver/config that disabled on laptop computer, the keys 'Ctrl '? How to solve it?

    Thanks in advance!

It's amazing. What a crazy problem? Never heard of this.

What version of BIOS is preinstalled on your laptop? Later perhaps 1.60?
