My Satellite A660 - 11 M heating and closure

Hello!
(Sorry for my English)

I have problem with my computer.
When I play computer games or when I save movie created in Sony Vegas or Windows Movie Maker, my Toshiba gets hot and close.
I don't know the reason.

I saw that decreased CPU is at 50% usage (save the movie in Movie Maker), the computer turns off about 5 min from the start to save her.
I bought this computer in the United Kingdom in August. I have format it did ' t for 7 months.

What can I do?
Perhaps open and clean the fan?
Did I lost my warranty when I only opened it and clen?

Yes you will void the warranty so please don t open / disassemble your laptop on your own.
It will be better for you to contact the nearest service Toshiba and ask for help.

Problem is that your laptop s material reach the level of critical and portable temperature turns off to avoid damaging the material.
You use your laptop on the desk? Are somehow all the cooling vents and cooling of the grids free and not blocked? It can occur when you use your laptop on the lap or on the bed.

    Hello

I understand your situation but to be honest, I put t know how to help you.
I put t know what that solved the service and what they did with your laptop, but what you can do is to install the OS by using the recovery image (on DVD or HARD drive) and to monitor closely what will happen in the future.

While gaming, don't forget your laptop is placed on the desk and the cooling fans should not be stuck with a few Pater, books or anything else. before you start the game go portable high performance power plan and check that cooling in this plan of the power method is set to the maximum level.

  • Satellite A660 - 1 H 5 and crack chips Sandy

    Hello

I'm new to this forum. I recently bought a 1 H 5 A660. The thing within a week of purchase that I start to get this blue screen when I turn on the computer. It is about 50% of the time. Then I went to the shop where I buy the machine and discovered that there is a recall of the product because of the fault of sandy bridge.

«Toshiba also recalled its models of series A660 Satellite L655, A665 and M645, the Satellite E305 S1990, select computers laptop Toshiba Portege R835, some systems of the Qosmio X 505 and the Qosmio X 500 series - model Q930.»

The thing is I can't find my product even on the toshiba site. I can find 1 h 7, 1:6, but not 1 h 5. I want to know is there anyone with the same situation as me. And I want to know is the same laptop with the same specification will be released in April when intel ships fixed chips?

And the thing I don't understand is, according to the news:

"The Cougar Point flaw affects only SATA Intel controlled 3 Gbps ports - 6 GB/s ports are fully operational." PC manufacturers who only make use of the 6 Gb/s ports are therefore encouraged to continue anyway.

"* If you are a manufacturer of laptop, you will find laptops which is enough for a hard drive and DVD drive, two ports SATA [6 Gb/s]", said a spokesperson for Intel Pro PC *. "In these cases, it is perfectly OK to use the B2 walk."

Also, surely, it should not cause a problem on my laptop? Even if it does, not after a week of purchase?

I have that really the new laptop and I really want to get a strong response from the official toshiba representative exactly what the problem with my computer before you return it for a refund.

BTW, my laptop can be found on amazon:

    Hello

My cousin bought one of these new A660 with the Sandy Bridge chipset and it works perfectly fine.
Apparently it takes months or even years for the SATA ports to start to fail, he decided to keep this A660 for now, until new motherboards are available.

We discovered that only the external SATA (eSATA) port is assigned.
The HARD drive is not on a port.
The optical drive is on a port, but optical drives do not require a high bandwidth so it is not affected.

So basically, you have the option to return the laptop rather than buy or keep it for the time, and then send it to an ASP when new mothers are available.

  • Satellite A660-1DW - fault LED and arrow keys

I just bought an A660-1DW. Everything seems to work fine except that the arrow and DELkeys do not always work. Most of the time they are very good, but maybe once in every twenty depressions you must press the button twice or even three times or he press very hard to make it work.

This is a new laptop, and no liquid has been spilled on it.

I found an entry in the knowledge base that deals with a similar problem for other types of satellites, but not the 'A' series. He recommended to switch off, remove the battery, wait awhile and turn with FN / N / 1 keys at the same time. I did, but it has no effect.

Someone had a similar problem? I have to send the laptop back to fix, or is there something I can do myself?

All opinions and advice are welcome.

    Matt.

The described issue was slightly different. It's a keyboard delay which has not assigned a particular button, but all the keys on the keyboard. But this has been fixed by the BIOS updated.

In your case, it sounds like keyboard problem
    Perhaps it should be replaced

  • Satellite A660 - touch pad / stop and other buttons do not work

    Dear people on this forum,

Recently, about 3 weeks ago, I turned on my computer and I cleaned out the dust because it was overheating.

about 2 weeks before, I noticed that my touchpad is not working and the buttons at the top of the page do not work, there is no light (multimedia audio buttons wireless) I can't activate/deactivate or either, I don't know how. I don't know if the problem because I cleaned my laptop and has not logged a few threads back but I included this detail because I do not use these buttons if I haven't noticed if they were on. but he said: 2 days ago, I don't know how my wireless exploded Ant when I press fn + f8 (wireless) wireless communication switch is turned off, which is one of the buttons is not working (upstairs next to / switch even with my touch pad)

    I tried the following:

    Windows Update
turn off the computer, remove all cables and battery and wait for about 30 minutes. Then then hold down the button for 30 seconds
Reinstall the support flash cards, hw Setup utility / value pack
and finally a Toshiba out of the recovery of the box using the recovery of 2 cd product

I don't know what to do next. It's either:

    try something else
or is there a wire is connected both touchpad and the buttons at the top and I have to open my laptop and connect them.

Please answer as to my next step to get my wireless.

Please don t get me wrong, but I don t know how to help you now. Disassembly of the laptop is to only authorized persons and if you do it on your own there is always a risk that something may be hurt or may be damaged.

OK, I must also say that I also removed my machine too but I got lucky and everything is OK as before.
I put t know how A660 looks inside, but the principle is still the same and I can't imagine you have whatever it is damaged.
You know very well that we cannot say much about your problem. What you need to do now is the final test of functionality and install original recovery image that you got with your laptop. Test the functionality with the factory settings. If the problem is still there, I m afraid you must open for new laptop and check if everything is connected correctly.

Last option is to contact the service and ask for help.

  • Re: Satellite C660-28dts over heated and now will not light

My Toshiba C660-28dts was on and working very well.
The base was hot and the laptop is off.

I just assumed it had overheated and cut.
I left it for more than 24 hours, due I commitments, when I tried to turn it on nothing happened.
I noticed that when you press the power button the Green LED flashed for a few seconds then went off.

The fan did not run, the display does not illuminate.
It's the same thing with the power supply and output cable.

It does not sound very well.
It looks like a serious hardware problem.

In the best case, it's just a problem of RAM module. It would be easy to fix.
You can replace the RAM modules just to check if it of the case.

Otherwise, it would be a related problem of motherboard and I guess in this case it s you will need to replace the motherboard.
The new motherboard is an expensive part, so you have to decide what you want to do

  • Satellite A660: Comment and a question about button lighting / mute

    Note:

Hi, I'm the proud owner of a satellite A660-166 (3 days) and I installed everything from scratch on the win 7 pro because I got my laptop with a home (need pro for work) version... I met some problems, but this forum really answered my questions :) Never found such a useful for technical support forum. I wanted to express my gratitude and my support for everything you do for users :)

Problem: well, this isn't really a problem, more a curiosity... I had a few problems with the key eco, at this time there button lighting / mute was to mute... Thank you guys, I found out what needed to be done, I reinstalled the Flash card software and everything worked properly more the lighting button / mute has been for enlightenment now. I have nothing against that, I prefer it like this, but I wonder how to change that... I found some response on the use of toshiba wireless Assistant and the illumination tab... Because my laptop is fairly new, that I do not have a tab of enlightenment, I was wondering how to change the mute button if I want to?

Thanks, keep up the good work!

It's nice to hear that you found answers to your questions here. Many people here trying to help.

Back to your question: it is not easy to give a precise answer and I really put t know if you can change the settings of a single button. I think it has something to do with the registry entries, but how to change, that's another question.

If you use this button for lighting ON / OFF, you can use FN + ESC for the mute button so you have two options that can be used with a touch or quick key combination.
Can you please test and confirm that it works correctly?

  • Satellite A660 - wen of video streaming VGA driver crash

Satellite A660 - my computer hangs and the VGA driver crashes and then recovers when I watch Youtube or any other streaming site. I think that there is a problem with VGA drivers. I have Windows 7 64 bit. Rarely, windows get completely frozen and must be started cold.

    Friends of ideas?

    Hey,.

Yes, sometimes I read on these issues here in the forum, but the solution is simply: update the display driver!

You can download the latest drivers for your laptop from Toshiba's official website:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

But before installing the latest version I recommend to remove the old first and restart your laptop. Then you install the most recent.

    I hope it works :)

  • Need information about the Satellite A660 - 18 d

I'm considering the purchase of Satellite A660 18 * N * laptop and have been Curry to take a look, however, I only found the 18 * D *, which does not appear to exist based on the toshiba site. It is a real product?
And if so, what are the differences between this and the 18.

Computers notebooks are specific products of country so you won't find them all in your country. All you can do is buy laptops offered in your country with the right language of the OS.

In any case, I think that both models should be offered to the United Kingdom, but I'm not 100% sure on this subject.
Have you checked if the other store offers 18?

    Difference?
Only difference, I found it is CPU. 18 has Intel Core I7-740QM and 18(d) a processor Intel Core I7-720QM.

  • Problems of Freeze/bios satellite A660

I have a satellite A660 a year already and I experienced a few freezes where the PC and I am unable to do anything, the sound still works for a few seconds and them it change to a scratching noise. The question as always been here, but given that it only happened once a month or less i thought it was a windows freeze or an overheating problem but for some time happened much several times, in four days happened to 8 times. Then I tried to update the drivers and nothing change until the BIOS drivers that I can't not to update because I get the following error (Firmware has no support of flash (AFUWINGUI)).
I don't know if the update to the BIOS so that solve the problem or if a must send the PC to the guarantee.

Sorry for my English I'm not a native speaker, and I am grateful for those who can read thought my question and always responds.

Have you added extra RAM for laptop? Maybe the RAM is not compatible or has a problem. You can test the RAM with Memtest (bootable CD)

Windows can get damaged over time due to bad judgments etc... It may be a good idea to save your documents and run Toshiba Recovery to restore Windows back to its factory condition.

If the RAM passes the test and the gel is always held on a Windows factory installation completely fresh, then it is probably a hardware problem.

  • Error message "A problem with the cooling system" on Satellite A660

    Hi all

Hope I can get help here. I got about 5 laptop computers HP after each of them had problems and errors. I got sick of them and so got a refund and bought a high spec A660-1FH.

The A660 is a great laptop for two days until yesterday when I started having a saying of warning message "a problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the power immediately and return it for service "."

The cpu fan works fine you can here it turns and the temperature of the processor i5 - 460 m is around 40 degrees for two hearts - that seems normal to me. I noticed that this happens only when running on battery, and if you switch from eco utility to the power saving mode. Its fine when running on the "balanced" power setting The fan is louder before when this message appears.

Like its less than 28 days my retailer swapped it for a brand new immediately. Got a new home page, and the same message reappears. Everyone knows this. Like two laptops had this, I was wondering if it is normal that the laptop A660 series or if it was really a hardware problem?

I tried to update the eco utility and the bios of the laptop, but the two are the latest versions. Can someone help or share if they have a similar problem with their laptop?

    Thank you

In front of me, I have Satellite A660-13 q (PSAW3E) and I have about 6 weeks now. It works almost 10 hours a day and so far I didn't notice this message or anything that may be suspect for the operation of the equipment.

I put really know why this happen on your laptop and don t think that there is nothing you can do about it.
I would trade it again. What you can also try is to contact the closest service Toshiba. Make a call, explain the situation and ask if they can help you with this.

  • Satellite A660 freeze on HD video, streaming and video games on Win7 64 bit

    Hello everyone,

This is my first message here... I bought a Toshiba Satellite A660-12th, 4 months ago and from the beginning, I have the same problem...
Gel Gel Gel on video HD 720 and 1080 on streaming (you tube) and video games.
I have the latest Nvidia driver that I've always updated, I reinstall win 7 and still this * problem.
I saw many topics on the net about this problem, but I couldn't find any solution.
The same problem for another series of the laptop.

Is this a common problem for toshiba computers?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    FibZ

I don't think it's a general or common problem. I have the Satellite P500 with the NVIDIA card inside. Pre-installed driver is Toshiba 8.16.11.8829 driver version, and I have never notice one problem with display or graphics in general.

I watch blu - ray movies, very often HD trailers on YouTube, play games (for the time Medal of honor, Black Ops) and everything works perfectly.

What NVIDIA card is in your laptop and what display driver is installed?

  • Satellite A660-18 suspended and needs hard reboot

My Satellite A660-18 crashes every two days about 2/3 times. I can't press ctrl + alt + del and the mouse does not move. I pressed the power button to restart manually. It started about two weeks after I got it in September. I watch a lot of videos online (and offline) and usually after the screen freezes / crashes, audio continues and extends. I thought that it was a problem with IE8, so I switched to Google Chrome, but it still continues. This occurs also in offline mode. Also, after my laptop crashes, the fan speeds up so I thought it was an overheating issue. I bought a carpet of cooling a few days ago, and the system still hangs. I don't know what to do now, can anyone help?

    Hello

    It's not easy to say what causes this but you should check different things;

    (1) reinstall the OS. Dirty registry entries affect the OS eth feature
    (2) clean OS using CCleaner
    (3) check the bars of memory. Run the test using a tool like memtest86 + or similar
    (4) check the HARD disk. You can use Drive Fitness Test, which is free.
    (5) update BIOS and other pilots like graphics card driver

    Good luck

  • Flashes and a beep on Satellite A660 - 11M

    Hello

    Is about 3 or 4 months ago, I bought a new Toshiba Satellite A660 - 11 M.
I noticed the following problem: lights from time to time my laptop occasionally fade or turn on (lights on Toshiba panell, the word 'Satellite' and the line on Touchpad) and a short beep sound rises.

This situation sometimes friequently (10 - 20 times in a row).
The worst situation is when (less frequently), the signal becomes continuous and reduced noise control noise at 0.

Such a problem occurs regardless of the load (this can happen even when the laptop does nothing) and foreign time - so I don't think that this is caused by overheating (laptop is not hot at all).

I thought that the problem is caused by one of the zillions of Toshiba programs installed on this poor PC.
I tried to delete everything (Toshiba Eco was the first alleged entity), but this did not help.
I thought that Toshiba Board (like the main among all these unnecessary programs) is causing the problem, but removal of it caused in the system crash.

Could someone tell me how to recover my laptop?

The current workaround is to turn off the beep (in soundcards), but I still see the lights flashing. So I healed a symptom, but not a problem

    Thank you.

    Hello

Multimedia keys are controlled by VAP (value added package), lighting controlled by BIOS too. You can enable and disable this in the BIOS settings.
TO be honest it of certainly not possible to say what s wrong precisely because you cannot reproduce this problem, it appears every time in awhile

What I can recommend, is the BIOS updated. This must be current and must be set to the default value (in the BIOS, press F9).

If the symptoms will appear again, then the Toshiba technician should check this
