  • White screen with a cursor after V2V Windows 2008 R2

    Hi all

I just did a cold V2V of a Windows 2008 R2. Migration completed successfully. However, when I tried to start the machine in the new infrastructure, it shows a blank screen with a blinking cursor.

I tried the bootrec /fixmbr and /fixboot and also tried bootrec/Rebuild.

    Former environment - Esx 3.5

    New environment - ESXi 5.1

Before V2V the machine was to have a SCSI LSI logic, and while V2V, I used the option to preserve the same.

Could you please say what could be the reason and the solution as well.

    See you soon,.

    Muthu.

Thank you all for your replies,

Installed vcenter converter locally and launched the V2V. the new machine came with success.

  • Application pools and CF9 64-bit and Windows 2008 R2 64-bit

    Hi all.

    Since about 3 months ago, I got CF9 64-bit running successfully on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit, and 64-bit PHP server.

It was a few days get it all working happily together, but it's an entirely different discussion, I'm happy to help if someone at - it need help.

My question is for someone with some experience and understanding of the relationship between IIS 7, Cold Fusion and Application Pools.

We have 8 GB of RAM on a 3.2 GHz dual processor box.  And on this particular server, we have about 350 sites of cold fusion.  All sites of very low traffic, I should add.  Like maybe on average 1000 page clicks each day.  In any case these sites ran flawlessly on 2 GB of RAM box with two 1 GHz processors.  And honestly, it ran more surely than it does now.

What role the Application Pools in an environment dedicated to Cold Fusion?

Because only one instance of JRun is already launched, SEE crashes when requests overwhelms the box and it blocks.  So, kind of defeated the purpose of the independent application in my opinion Pools.

During my installation and transfer of these sites, I gave them each their own independent Application Pool, which are now individual instances of IIS worker process, each using about 10 MB of RAM.  Thus, for example, if the interaction that happens with 200 websites that they eat up to 2 GB of RAM, which, although not large, is very well now.  The problem is that I intend to leave this machine reach 500 sites before adding another box, but I worry about the performance.

    FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS:

Should cold fusion Pools of independent applications for each web site or all websites can be used under DefaultAppPool?

And what are the advantages and disadvantages of the two options?

Is there a setting I should change who will say active stop w3wp.exe instances if no activity takes place for a certain period of time to release the memory.

    Thanks for any input.

    Rush, the bottom line questions:

Should cold fusion Pools of independent for each web site applications or can

all of these Web sites running under DefaultAppPool?

No, it's not 'need '. They can all run in a pool. It is probably best to split them somehow, so that is something is not bad in a single application pool, at least those of the other application pool still works.

And what are the advantages and disadvantages of the two options?

As you note, each application pool uses a little memory. Not much, but as you note, 200 + it adds up. FWIW, the application pool is also part of the connection between IIS and CF, and there are times where just a recycling application pool (rather than restart CF) can solve a problem.

That said, there certainly are times where CF will be what does not, and it won't matter to the application pools how you have. That's really what you want to focus on: why (if ever) SEE becomes is not responding.

Is there a setting I should change who will say active

instances of w3wp.exe to stop if no activity takes place for a certain

    time to release the memory.

It is the default behavior of the application pools. See the "Advanced settings" for each pool in IIS 7 (or for her properties in IIS 6) for the recycling of various parameters of health protection.

To return to your root cause problem (CF becomes unresponsive), anyway, you say "these sites were without fault on 2 GB of RAM box with two 1 GHz processors.  And honestly he ran more surely than it does now. "So what was 'before '? Not just less memory, I guess. He was also 32-bit instead? Was that an earlier version of the CF? It is useful for you to be more specific.

Again, everything that is wrong is an explanation. It looks like you use the CF Server (not multiserver) mode, until you find in the coldfusion9\runtime\logs (not the coldfusion9\logs)? There may be important information before your plant that explains what is happening.

As for your struggles get CF running on IIS 7, I'm curious: was it the 9.0? If Yes, what 9.0.1 (the free updater, which must be installed today on a download of CF9) which supported for IIS 7. Previously, it was indeed a little manual to make work work. And in fact, it may be that an update to version 9.0.1 could help resolve some problems if your manual configuration efforts could have hurt at all.

Hope some of it is useful.

  • Windows 2008 R2 server slow printing

We have about 5-6 servers Windows 2008 R2 in our virtual machine environment.  All of these servers are servers very low utilization, and they all work very well.  We have a few domain controllers, a SQL box and a few boxes of web application that is running IIS.  One of these domain controllers is a print server.  The print server works well, but it is very slow.  If you right-click on any printer that is added to any of the customers and go to properties, where the server is the management of print server, the client must wait 30 seconds or more for the upcoming dialog with the properties.  You can click between tabs, but the legs are also slow to react.

This means that if you make changes to the print job or the margins, for example, it may take a minute of waiting between screens.

Now, we had a physical Windows 2000 print server that has worked well until we got the VM environment, so I know the problem is in one of a few different areas.

    1. it could be the VM environment.

    2. it may be Windows 2008 R2 server config or the server software itself.

3 might be x 64 bit cause a problem with 32-bit clients using the box.

I have excluded #3 by a 32 bit 2008 Server on the VM environment of loading, loading of print management and then by loading a single printer and share it.  The problem is still there on the current server.  My next step is to try Windows 2003 server in virtual machine environment, but before I do, I want to throw this question very curious to the VMWare community.  All I have to do before moving on to more drastic measures?  There must be something I can do to solve the problem.

Maybe it's the solution.  Will test:

  • Cannot share screens with Skype Windows 8

I can't share screens with Skype (Windows 8). I've looked everywhere but I couldn't find a solution for this.

I tried: by clicking on the + button in a conversation as well as just by clicking on the contact and search for screen sharing button. See the two screenshots as an attachment.

Can someone please help me to find the function of sharing screen on Skype version of windows 8?

The application of the "modern" of Skype for Windows 8 does not yet support screen sharing.

If you want to be able to use the screen sharing feature, then you must install the version of office 'normal '.

The version of office currently last Skype can be installed here:

  • Windows 2008 R2 - no update for 2012

    Hello

I support a windows 2008 server that has been no update Windows since July 2012 The Windows Update screen tells me I have 96 important updates, 5 in option updates 434,7 MB

My question is what is the best way to apply these updates - small batch, or as an update? What precautions before update should I take?

It's a production machine, I want to minimize downtime and risk of problems during the update. I read that there are more likely to have problems if the updates are left for a period of time, can anyone advise me on how best to perform these updates?

  • Start window manager: sometimes when I started my PC I have a black screen with the Windows boot manager at the top.

Sometimes when I start my PC I have a black screen with the Windows boot manager at the top.  Although there are several options available, that nothing happens no matter what keys I hit and the only option is to shut down the computer and restart completely.  Sometimes the Boot Manager page turns and my office sometimes opens fine.  I've updated with everything Microsoft has Windows Vista and I still get this screen.  Anyone has any ideas.

Do a startup repair and see if that fixes it:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/

    ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

  • Problem starting Windows 2008 R2

I've restored a backup BackupExec (State of data and system) to a server running Windows 2008 R2 to new hardware. New material contains PERC H710P RAID controller and Windows installation media does not contain a driver for it. So my freshly installed with driver PERC system clears my restore of the System State and the system refuses to boot.

I was not able to find a way to inject PERC drivers in the Windows 2008 R2 (which is the same as that of Windows 7-64) boot environment. I tried to build a Windows ISO updated the with drivers PERC, hoping his recovery option would be smart enough to add the new driver to boot environment. Not only it doesn't seem to be able to change the boot sequence, there is no still load the PERC driver and I've always had to be loaded from a flash drive.

Anyone have any ideas on how to add the driver support when starting a system that is already installed?

    Thank you

    HammerCR

This problem has been resolved yesterday. Here is an overview of the steps:

    1. Download the latest driver off site support.dell.com and extract the files on a USB key.
    2. Insert the USB key into the server.
    3. Start on the support of the Windows operating system and use "Shift + F10" to launch a command line window.
      1. It might be a good idea to use two windows to start diskpart in to get the Volume letters
      2. Diskpart.exe and then run 'list volume' to view the volumes
    4. Run the following command:
      DISM / image: C: \ / Add-Driver /driver:D:\percsas3.inf
Note: C:\ is assumed to be the Windows system drive Partition D:\ is the USB.
    5. Once the driver has been loaded, leave the Windows installation program and restart the system. The system can boot into recovery utility, but choose to boot in Windows 2008 R2. System will reboot and you will be presented with a login screen.

I hope this will be useful to someone.

  • Is there another solution to integrate NAC Appliance and Active Directory on Windows 2008 64 bit

I'm trying to integrate a device of the NAC solution in a network where all domian servers and application servers are Windows 2008 64-bit.

Could someone help me to confirm if Active Directory (AD) on Windows 2008 is not taken in charge and tell me what alternatives exist to authenticate users who consider that it is not possible to make any changes on the server. They will continue to be Windows 2008 64 bit.

The original idea was to use AD SSO to authenticate users, but I read that it is not supported on Windows 2008 64 bit.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.

    Concerning

    Arturo Monroy

    Arturo,

You can use LDAP. Configure an LDAP authentication provider and have your customers to provide their credentials.

It will not however a single code access scenario. They would have to enter their credentials again on the NAC agent.

Support for 64 - bit is on its way and will be out in the new versions soon.
