my task manager does not display the current process. It's just a white square

When starting the Task Manager it does not show all processes accept the one / s that are used at the present time, such as "Firefox". There is no process background shown and instead of a list of process as there used to be, now, it's all there, it's a white box, displaying the above mentioned one or two processes that are open right now.

Press on and hold down the ALT key, and then double-click an opening of the border of the Task Manager window.

You are currently in minimum mode of the footprint.

    Hi Darko74

Thanks for the reply.  I forgot to ask the last time, you see the menus. File, Options, display and help?
Otherwise, the information below may help solve this problem.

The task manager has two different views. For the display that includes menus and tabs, double-click the border of the Task Manager window. The to return to the view without menus and tabs, double-click anywhere in the border around the tabs.

    Original title: Task Manager problem

I managed to solve the problem by looking for alternatives. Apparently, the problem was caused by a dat file (C:\windows\system32 folder called FNTCACHE.) (DAT) I deleted and it worked like a magic. Everything was normal again.
Deleted it and the work of all the graphical interfaces as it should.

Thanks for your answer, in any case. I just post the solution here if someone ever faced with such a question in the future.

  • The Windows XP Task Manager does not display the names of process image

I am running Windows XP with SP3. Image of process names are not displayed in the Task Manager, and in the column picker image process name, although is TICKING, is grayed out. I don't have the PID numbers. So I can't say what processes are underway. There are 57 processes running, that seems to be too many.   I tried running "tasklist > tasklist.txt"from command, prompt but it just flashes and nothing happens. " Does that mean I have a Trojan horse? What can I do about it?

    BDF

That seems good enough for me - now, we know that your XP version and Service pack, System brand and model, BIOS version, the amount of RAM installed, the size of your paging file according to NEC, your system has SATA drives and a few other things.

47 process may be OK depending on what you have installed and running on your system.

Looking at my notes, I see that I thought a while back that the tasklist.exe program does not come with XP, but there's a copy on my SkyDrive for you to download.

    Here's how:

Here is the link to my SkyDrive and you can get the file you need here:

    https://SkyDrive.live.com/?CID=6a7e789cab1d6f39&ID=6A7E789CAB1D6F39! 311

You can download it and when you do, place a copy of the file in these folders (assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive):

    c:\Windows\System32

When you see the files available for download, you can not see the file extension (.exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip, etc.), but when download you them they will have the right extension.

When you download the file (especially if you use Internet Explorer), when you get a chance to save the file, your browser is unable to save the file with an extension (by example, .exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip, etc) then you will need to manually add the extension appropriate to the file when you download the file before you save it.

You can download the file without the extension, and then rename the file to add the appropriate extension.  You do not want to use a file called tasklist when the name of the file should really be called tasklist.exe (if the downloaded file has no extension, you will need to change the name of the file to add the appropriate extension to make it work.

Then, when you run tasklist > tasklist.txt, you should end up with a file tasklist.txt you can open it with a text editor.

Even if you think yous system may be achieved a malware, it has never hurts to run these free scans before troubleshooting:

No matter what you use for malware protection, follow these steps:

Download, install, update and do a quick scan with these free malware detection programs (not at the same time) and remove all threats:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

SAS will probably report a lot of tracking cookies and you can just let him delete them.

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

The scans by operating clean, restart, and then fix any problems.

  • The Task Manager does not display the extra RAM, I installed.

I've recently updated the RAM in my office from 4 GB to 8 GB, but the Task Manager still shows 4 GB.  How to recognize a total of 8GB of RAM.  On the control panel – system and Maintenance – display system window, it shows that my office has 8 GB.  So why don't the Task Manager pick it up?

    Hi Teresa Barton,.

This behavior is the expected result of some hardware and software factors. Various devices in a typical computer require memory-mapped access. This is known as memory-mapped i/o (MMIO). For the MMIO space is available for 32-bit operating systems, the MMIO space must reside in the first 4 GB of address space.

You can check out the link below that may help you resolve the issue.
System memory shown in the system information dialog box in Windows Vista is less than expected if the 4 GB of RAM is installed
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929605/en-us

Note When the physical RAM that is installed on a computer equals the address space that is supported by the chipset, the total system available to the operating system memory is always less than the physical RAM installed. For example, consider a computer equipped with an Intel 975 X chipset, which takes in charge of 8 GB of address space. If you install 8 GB of RAM, the memory available to the operating system system will be reduced by the requirements of PCI configuration. In this scenario, PCI configuration requirements reduce the memory available to the operating system in an amount that is between about 200 MB and 1 GB approximately. The discount depends on the configuration.

  • The Task Manager does not display the names of process

It is not the function of menu hide tabs and menus but the .exe running list is missing, I checked all the columns on and still no luck, I kill the process from the description column now which is a little *. Someone has an idea of what's going on? P.S. It happened randomly more than two years ago and I tried different sites from time to time to get answers but no luck. O.S.: Windows 7 Home 64-bit

    Try this:

Place your mouse pointer on the left side of the user name column. You should get a slider which is a vertical line with arrows on both sides. Drag it to the right (holding the left button of the mouse). You should see the name column of the visible Image.

  • The Task Manager does not display applications

When I hit CTRL / ALT / DELETE to start the task, any running application manager appear.  (process appear).  Is there a solution to this?

Not all running applications appear under the Applications tab. I don't know who should and who should not, but you won't see the anti-virus or anti-spyware listed.

    • The Applications tab in Task Manager displays a list of running programs. A set of rules determines if a process appears on this tab or not. Most applications that have an entry in the taskbar will appear on this tab, but this is not always the case.

    Hi dude

This problem is known to me it happened to me also
The problem is that you register Windows!

A registry entry is corrupted and this is why the CD/DVD-ROM does not like I should.

    So what to do.
First remove the driver from the Device Manager. Simply remove it.
Then access the registry and and delete the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    Reboot the laptop.

  • The Task Manager does not recognize the ram upgrade

    Hello HP community!

Well, it seems that I have a problem with my ram upgrade. My system came with 2 GB of ram, and I had to upgrade (with another 2 GB), I am using programms like autoCAD, 3dsmax, photoshop, etc who have special needs on the RAM. Here's the problem; While the bios memory being recognized (4096 MB), what the task manager of the total physical memory is only 2046 MB! I also did the update to the BIOS, but it didn't work. The new memory I plugged in has the same features with one installed. The only difference is the manufacturer, the new is Kingston.

    Here are the characteristics of my system;

Operating system installed: Windows Vista 32-bit

Product name and number: HP Pavilion dv7 - 2030ev

    • Motherboard: Quanta 3624 intel PM45 (supports up to 8 GB of ram)
    • CPU: Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo P8600 2.40 GHz (64-bit Architecture)
    • RAM: 2 GB DDR2 PC2-6400 800 MHz 6.0 CASE Samsung latency
    • BIOS: F.46

    The RAM I bought is:

    Latency CASE of Kingston DDR2 PC2-6400 800 MHz 2GB 6.0

    (The package information to be exactly: KVR800D2S6 / 2GB PC2 - 6400 CL6 SODIMM 200 - Pin)

I also mention, I tried the only Kingston on a Slot and the system worked without any problems...

I would be so grateful if you could help...

    Thank you in advance,

    Nick Chatzikonstantinou

    Hi, Nick:

One of our experts at the top of the forum (DavidPK) page suggested that you look at this solution to the question of memory you meet...

    I quote David:

"In the system startup tab Configuration screen, the Advanced Options, it proved that there is a check mark in the maximum memory box.  Once removed and the applied change, Windows recognized all the Ram (less the reserved) after the reboot. »

If please give than to try and post back and let us know if that frees a memory system for you.
