My volume icon and control is missing

My volume icon and control is missing and I also think that the program is now defunct.  A spokesman for AOL of sees has accessed our computer to 'clean up' to make it work better and I think that he has removed my volume and its program.  When I tried to add the volume on my computer icon, he told me I do not have the program and install it.  When I went to add the program by following the instructions, it took me to Microsoft, but there is no program called "volume and noise."  In reading other posts, that it is said to right click on Start/Properties/Notification...but, I don't have the option "notification" under properties.  What should I do?

Hello

Notification options are only available for Windows Vista and higher. The Control of the Volume icon may appear from the Control Panel.

You said that the Spokesman of AOL could have removed the Control of Volume, please make sure that the following files exist on your system to see if the Setting of the Volume has been either deleted or not
%SystemRoot%\system32\sndvol32.exe

If you do not want to enable the display of the Control of the Volume icon, please try the following
[1] method: Using the control panel to change the settings for sounds and Audio devices

Thank you
Have a nice day :)

  • Flashing intermittent volume icon and the erratic mouse pointer.

I have a problem with intermittent flashing volume icon, when this happens, the volume icon is maximized and apears on the screen at the same time it is found in the taskbar. The volume icon will then quickly flash and cycle between silent and this causes the volume to sizzle even if no audio signal is coming through the speakers. At the same time as this, I often get a pointing device erratic which cannot be controlled and moves all around the screen if I try to move it.

Now for the strange bit. The volume control buttons do not allow the volume to be cut or modified when all this is happening, however if I hold my finger on the volume upwards or downwards, or the mute button this totall recuse the erratic pointer that I can then use again.

This problem is intermittent and random. I did a complete system restore and it still occurs. I noticed one thing, it is that keys icon flashing if sytem is working hard. Howvere, sometimes it happens at all.

I did sacans full of viruses and malware, but as I said it is still present after a full restore of the system. Im guessing it may be a hardware failure or a short circuit so probarbly will bring to a grumpy, but it would be good to have an idea of what it might be before hand so I do not be fooled.

IM on windows xp pro on a Dell latitude D820 almost three years but otherwise a fine computer

    Thank you

    Interzona

    Hi Interzona,

    1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

2 when was the last time it was working fine?

    3. do you have security software installed on the computer?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

When trying to uninstall a program, I uninstalled inadvertently something else. Apparently has something to do with the sound icon. According to the constructor for the audio endpoint Microsoft.either audio, Windows or Windows does not work.

I can help you to restore the Volume icon in the system tray (some call it the taskbar, some call it the notification area). But no guarantee that the icon will only work if you had uninstalled something you're not supposed to.

    Here is the tutorial.

Scroll down to three method #2. For the Volume icon and follow the instructions of step #5 to #9.

  • Try to add my volume icon to the taskbar. Has passed through the stages but unable to check the box for the icon?

I noticed that when I turned on my laptop that the volume was very fort! So, when I went to my silent icon it is when I noticed that he was not there with my battery power icon button. Then I wen through the steps to add them both back to my taskbar. Which were: click Start and then right click on the properties button, and then on the Notification area. Under system icons it won't let me check the volume and the power icon icon!

    Help

    Hello Annette,.

From your description, I understand that you are unable to add the volume icon and the power icon to the taskbar.

Run the fixit suggested in the following link.

    Hello

    1. what security software is installed?

System Restore takes a "snapshot" critical system files and some program files and registry settings, and then it stores this information as restore points. If your computer is not working properly, you can use these points to return Windows XP to a previous state when your computer was working properly restore.
