My XP Home Edition has been plagued by a ghost at startup window since I removed the Bing toolbar.

My XP Home Edition has been plagued by a ghost at startup window since I removed the Bing toolbar.  The window title bar is simply labeled "Microsoft" and the window is empty.  I think that this problem is related to a very slow start.  I have this problem have fought for almost a year and cannot locate the source.

Any help would be much appreciated.

original title: Ghost at startup window

The window title bar is simply labeled "Microsoft" and the window is empty.

It appears in the Applications tab of the Task Manager?   If so, use with the right button go to the process about which app it is.   If the name of the Image doesn't have a clue you could also use ProcExp to see what is the command line.  (Press Ctrl-Shift-Esc to start TM.   Other OS show the command line in TM, but I don't think that makes XP.)

Could you try starting Firefox in Safe Mode? It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

Does not work if Firefox: Hold down the option key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

    and OK reboot.

Two scenarios: A small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not update).

After 9 latest updates download and installtion was going well until I rebooted the computer and go to page window showing all the icons that I get a blue screen and the computer restarts its self and does not stop. How can this be corrected?

    Hi KevinRy,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!

    Unplug all external devices.

Try to start in safe mode. If you can start in safe mode, and then do a system restore to restore the computer to an earlier point in time.

Change the recovery settings to disable automatic reboot, if you are able to boot up to the desktop computer:

    1.

Right-click my computerand then click Properties.

    2.

    Click the Advanced tab.

    3.

Under Startup and recovery, click settings to open the Startup and recovery dialog box.

    4.

Clear the automatically restart check box, and then click OK many times necessary.

    5.

Restart your computer so that the settings take effect.

Now, when you are going to close and a fatal error occurs, you will see at least and it won't cause an automatic restart.

Please reply back with the error message you get because it helps us to resolve the error.

    Kind regards
    Amal-Microsoft Support.

  • registry editing has been disabled by your administrator

When I try to change my registry, I get this message "registry editing has been disabled by your administrator".

How can I solve this problem? Thank you very much!

    Hello

The computer is connected to a domain or network?

This type of problem occurs generally when the administrator restricts other users to make changes to the registry. To remove it, you need to modify group policy and for that you must have administrator privileges.

Group Policy settings can be performed only on Windows 7 Ultimate, professional Edition and Enterprise Edition.

Try the following steps if you have administrator privileges and the editions are:

    a. click Start, type change a political group in the search box and press enter.

    b. open the Group Policy Editor.

    c. go to Configuration / Administrative Templates/System user .

    d. see the strategy, prevent access to registry editing tools.

If the computer is connected to a domain, it would be best to contact the domain administrator for assistance.

    Hope the information is useful.

  • Windows XP Home edition has crashed - how to return WXP and use with the product key?

Hello. I bought an Equium L20 last year and after 1 year my windows crashed due to a virus. I want to know how to get a real windows xp OS because the product under my laptop key is always saved for me and is a legitimate product but I can't get windows because it was obviously preinstalled and no CD was given to me with the package.

How can I get back Windows to use with my product key on my WIN sticker below my laptop.

    Hello

First of all, it is very strange that recovery CD is not delivered with your laptop. It's hard to believe, but anything is possible. As you know after buying a new product, it is very important to check all orders sent with it and if something is missing, you must call the local as soon as possible and not to wait a year.

Sorry but this key code belongs to original recovery image and you can't use it with every installation of Windows XP Home edition CD. In your case, there are two options:
-You can buy the CD of facilities Microsoft original WXP (with the key correctly code) or
-Contact the partner of service allowed in your country and order the new CD from recovery for your laptop model.

    All that s!

    Bye and good luck!

HELP, trying to install Illustrator but get this message that I need to download "Adobe Support Advisor" when I go on the site, I see that it has been abandoned, what should I do now? got trapped in the labyrinth HELP HELP!

    Hi Joseeyk67276640,

'Download Support Advisor' is a generic error, and we need to understand what is causing the problem. Most of the time, its a problem with the download was not successful or downloaded correctly. So, in this case, re-download the software and do not forget to compare the file size of the file downloaded with the file on the server.  From the following link, please download the version of Illustrator, you need: other downloads

Allows you to check in this case as well and make sure that the download is complete, if the size of the file is correct, to the install.log file.

Navigate in the log files in one of the following folder:

    Mac OS: / Library/Logs/Adobe/Installers /.

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Common Files\Adobe\Installers\

The name of the log file includes the name of the product and installation date, followed of ".". log.gz."the .gz extension indicates a compressed format.

You can use a utility to extract the 7z or gz to unzip.

Once unzipped, the log file is a text file, open the .log using TextEdit (Mac OS) and notebook (OS Win)

Scroll to the bottom of the log. Look in the section - summary - for lines that begin with ERROR or FATAL and signals a failure during the installation process.

Copy and paste this section SUMMARIZED here so that we can check for errors. Alternatively, you can analyze the logs yourself. http://helpx.Adobe.com/Creative-Suite/KB/troubleshoot-install-logs-CS5-CS5.html

  • XP Home Edition Accessories folder has been uninstalled by accident, how do I get that back without the cd.

I have xp home edition, but the folderhas accessoriy uninstalled by accident, how can I get that back without the cd. I have dp does not have a partitioned hard drive, it has been deleted when cleaning a few months ago by a so-called professional

If you mean that start > all programs no longer displays an entry for 'Accessories', then all that is removed is a set of shortcuts you can easily recreate (assuming that it is not in your basket).  The actual programs that are related to 'Accessories' are still there.

To check, click Start > run, then type each of the following in the box run and then click OK

    Notepad.exe--> should start Notepad
    mspaint.exe--> should start painting
cmd.exe--> should open a command prompt window

Because the default ' accessories' menu includes submenus for accessibility, communication and entertainment, it's a bit tedious searching for all executables, create shortcuts and bring together them in a folder to display in the start menu.  I haven't used, but this utility says it does exactly what that (and this is from a trusted site): http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Accessories.htm

  • MY home pc has been configured as a workgroup instead of a pc in the House. How can I change this using xp home edition?

My brother did a clean reinstall of my xp home edition and it is configured as a workgroup instead of a personal computer at home. I need to change that. What I have to reinstall XP Home Edition or can it be done with the repair on my xp home disk option?  Create problems that I have my user account and the user account from my children.  All I want is to have this setup of working group last. Help, please

I don't think he did his PC a "domain". This would require a server operating system and the domain controller.

I don't see any problem with your configuration. 'Administrators' are a group of users, not a user. 'Administrator' is a user who belongs to this group 'Administrators' and therefore share the same privileges. There is no user named "admin" unless you create.

If I understand correctly, you can connect to the administrator account. So, you don't miss any privileges or access to the computer. If you want to use a different account for yourself you can create and use that one.

I ask for your specific problem. You don't tell him, at least no that looks like a problem. You seem to be confused about the installation, but I see nothing non-standard in your description apart because the administrator account is usually "hidden" after installation.

You mention an internet problem. This has nothing to do with the configuration of your account or the "working group". And what is the problem with having backup privileges? I don't understand your remark on your child's account. Sounds more like you're talking about an account on a site, with Xbox, or almost, but not with local accounts. A local account didn't need "activation".

I think you should talk to your brother in case you have problems. It seems to be knowledgeable enough to fix everything for you.

  • Windows XP Home Edition has lost drive of installation and CD Key - cannot repair windows (damaged WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file)

I can't start Windows XP Home Edition at all - everything I try to do using the Advanced Options results in the same error message screen (Windows is not start because the following file is missing or corrupt...). I can't do a repair installation because my friend who has built my computer and installed my operating system lost the disc to install Windows XP Home Edition and the CD Key, I ordered. I can't find anyone else who has their record.

Is there a way I can fix the system without the authentic installation disk files? If not, is there a way I can receive a free/good Windows installation disc market replacement of Microsoft? Also, I don't want to lose any documents on my computer in the process.

    Thanks for the help!

Have you tried 'XP No Boot troubleshooting steps' sticky post at the top of this forum?

As this issues happens several times a day and your system falls into any category to start, why not start there and see if that helps?

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes pulling and buttons power)

These can cause corruption in the file system that must be fixed before you do anything else.

If none of these events occurred (or even if they have not taken place), you must verify the integrity of your file system before anything else (especially "try" things).

There is zero logic to start try to copy files to a hard drive with a corrupted file system so it must first be fixed using the XP chkdsk program and setting that may solve your problem completely, but you must start there.

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do.  Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.

Start the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD or create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console.

This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.  If you don't know what kind of bootable CD, you, do a CD of bootable XP Recovery Console and do not forget.

You can create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console when no XP CD is available by following the instructions in this link:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic276527.html

After booting into the Recovery Console, you should be in this folder:

    C:\WINDOWS

For each of your hard disk partitions, you must then run:

    Chkdsk /r

For example, at the Recovery Console prompt, enter:

    CHKDSK c: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.  It may take a long time to complete or seem to be 'glued '.  Be patient.  If the HARD drive light flashes, it's something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

The chkdsk/r must be completed without error, you may need to run several times until it does.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.
