Names duplicated on a network in Windows 7

My network is discovering the name of many things, and I would like to know how to solve. The server is Windows 2003 standard edition sp2.

Note that this is not the network duplicated names error.
It is:

Computer 1
Computer 1
Computer 2
Computer 2
Computer 3
Computer 3
etc.

All the computers are available and everything works as usual, but all the computers and servers are listed twice.

How this computer is connected to the Internet?

Make a right click my computer and select Properties.  Then click on the "Computer name" tab  The 'full name' should not be the same as the name of "workgroup".

The error is a complaint that another device on any network to which your computer is connected to has the same name that the 'full name' shown in system properties (I assume that it is also possible that the error reports that there are two devices on the network with the same name even if none of these devices your computer).

Although there are utilities that scan your network and to report the names of connected devices, they are somewhat nonsimple to use and may not work on a computer that will expose the error that report you.

If your computer is on a home network, share an Internet connection using a router, you can manually check all other devices.  You don't maybe not easily able to determine the 'computer name' no computer network devices, but it is highly unlikely that such a device, for example, a network printer, would have the same name as your computer.

Just to be sure there isn't something special going, disconnect your computer from your network (or your Internet connection) and then it reboot.  The duplicate name error should NOT appear if the computer is not connected to a network.

  • Receiving the message: a duplicate name exists on the network.

I ran a repair Windows Home CD with SP1 on this laptop and I had trouble getting to the end. He kept giving error message - missing or damaged dll file. So finally, after several attempts and a few prayers, I was able to get through without having to run a Recovery Console. As I said, I was trying

This with an installation disc which was old SP1 CD. So now, I have also installed two SP 2 & 3. And now I have an error message pops up saying: a duplicate name exists on the network (the).  I was told I could install a XP Pro Tools program, but I forgot to write the instructions. And he still appears whenever I boot Windows XP Home OS. Any suggestions? I appreciate it as this notice little if aggravating especially after all I wanted to do this work without an error Mssg.

    Hi Alweed,

You can try the following steps and check:

    a. right click on desktop

    b. click Properties

    c. click on the computer name tab at the top.

    d. check the 'display name' of each computer in question and make sure they are unique.

    (e) if they are not, click on the button 'change'. (If not, replace the name of one of the computers)

    f. you may have to restart your computer.

I can access the shared files of most of my computers on the domain, but there are a few that have WINXP Pro can't do. Some of the XP computers can access it, but the only people who can't are XP. I think it might be something with the local security settings, but I'm not sure. The error I get is: \\server name \sharing folder is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions.  The request is not supported.   All users have permissions and can view the files from other computers just these few who have been able to do actions. • Trying to set up a network with windows 7 Home premium

I'm trying to set up a network on windows 7 Home premium, but could not find this secpol.msc. I read the posts on the guy with vista home premium and similar problems. I tried the advice given to him:

Open regedit and locate the key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contrl\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel

Set this value to 1 (is default on 3) "send LM and NTLM".
    See the Q823659 knowledge base

I got in the case of the LSA and found no LmCompatibiltyLevel, he was not in the file or it contained a folder with that name.

I also read a post from someone about windows 7 as follows:

On Windows 7 Home Premium, secpol.msc or this registry key is set.

However if you add a new key named LmCompatibilityLevel DWORD value at the specified location and the value of '1' it seems to work to allow
"Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel

But my problem I do not know what he meant by 'DWORD '.
If someone could help with this problem, it would be great.

  • Networking in Windows 7 problem

4 running puters with Windows 7 Ultimate... all joined in the same homegroup... all have the same name for the Workgroup network... turned on for all discovery... File/printer sharing turned on for all... password protect off for all... public sharing turned on for all... has the sharing set up on top of all the files that I want to share on all... same password set up on everything when I joined the homegroup on the whole.

I can see all computers in the network of computers... but when I click on one... it says that I don't have the view on the set of permissions... BUT... I see my network printer and it works on all computers... have tried to leave the homegroup and join again on the whole.
I tried everything nothing helped! I'm about to tear my hair... can someone help... Thank you.
PS... It is not the firewall nor my AV... I tried to disable both on the whole of the case.

Well guys... I thought about it on my own using what I used to do under XP when I had problems of network and what I learned about sharing advanced 7... I'll explain what I've done here, just in case someone already has this problem:

Set up your network as described by SM on all computers and it's using the parameters of the formidable "homegroup"... now... it's VERY important... maybe it's a long way around the problems that I had... BUT IT worked... go to 'run' and type ' control userpasswords2 "(no quotes)... highlight properties of acct... comments click... now, click the group membership tab..". " Choose 'Administrators' and choose 'Other' again... which will allow you to drop the drop-down list choose Power User... apply... OK... hit apply again... Ok.

OK... now we do with it (this is the process I used to have to go by with XP sometimes)

Now, on every computer... go to the folder/drive you want to share, right click and go to properties... click on the sharing tab, then advanced sharing... click Permissions... add... click click on advanced... click on find now... in the list that shows up... highlight power users... click OK in the window that opens up, make sure that the power users is highlighted... and set your permissions in the bottom box (for It was total control)... Click on apply and OK until your done and by the windows and finally close.

Whaaaaallllaaaa... my network is back on all computers!

As I said... it can be someone out there who will think that it's a long way around to a simple problem... but as I said... IT WORKED.

Thanks for all the messages and suggestions guys... I appreciate your trying to help!

  • Why some of my PC does not appear under "Network" in Windows Explorer?

I think that part of my PC now appears in the section "Network" in Windows Explorer.

Under network, I used to have just the Epson Workforce 645 printer connected WiFi.
Recently, I noticed that some of my C: drive appear there as well.
I now have an entry for my computer name.
Which is the tree that starts with "users". Under users is 'Default', 'Public' and my user name.
    There are all these files.
If I'm going to disconnect network drives nothing appears.
I can navigate the network folders and I can see the same files I see under
These folders under my 'C '.
Any ideas on how this could have happened? Or how can I cancel it?
Thank you for any help or advice.

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft community!
You have reached the right forum for your question. If I understand correctly, you see the "Network" section in the Windows Explorer. I suggest you follow the troubleshooting steps to check if this may help.

If you connect any network to the computer, it appears upwards in the network. If you disconnect the network players, then the network is offline now

You can check these links for more information:

  • A duplicate name exists on the network

    Hello

We are trying to install a 4.6 view environment and am getting an error on my VMs that a duplicate name exists on the network. The pool does not composer and is automated with assignment of the user of floating. I created a template which is Windows XP and on our field. Research on virtual machines that there where to create the pool, they each kept the model name VM's DNS name is following my pattern of naming. Is it possible to have virtual machine created by the pool GET a new name?

    Thank you

You must use sysprep/quickprep to rename the guest operating system: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2003797

I think that you can only use quickprep with linked clones, so you need to use sysprep:

    1. download Microsoft sysprep (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838080)

    2. you will need to prepare your sysprep answer file (it is a good guide: http://capitalhead.com/articles/force-sysprep-to-prompt-for-a-computer-name-during-mini-setup-in-windows-xp.aspx)

    3. If you are using the guide above and you let the ComputerName = * in place, it will automatically generate a new name for the computer for you.  If you remove the * you will need to enter a computer name whenever a new virtual machine is created.  Not exactly ideal because it is supposed to be automatic, but at least you would get a control.

    4. install the deployment tools XP on your server vCenter (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\xp)

5 load your Sysprep.inf in your 'customization specifications' within the VI client.

This gives you a name generated randomly for each virtual computer.  Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a way to make this name match the pattern specified in the pool.  I gave up at the end and switched to linked Clones as it makes the whole process a million times easier

    Hope this helps

  • Addon shows the name but no icon in the window customize

I recently developed an add-on. However, once installed the icon does not show, but only the name of the addon in the window customize bar addon (or menu Australis).
I have not seen this behavior in other addons, so I think it's probably something that I did wrong.
Maybe I don't get the right size icon?

You can try to ask the advice of the forum of the modules or the forum MozillaZine extensions development.
