Need advice with the hard drive upgrade

Greetings Applelonians:

I bought a new HD 480 GB SSD for my 15 MBP (to 2011) to try to help improve the performance and install it myself. I'm hoping to get some tips on the sequences necessary for install and then restore my files Office 2011. (I've known slowness notable speed as well as issues of program Outlook-so think I should try to start more as fresh as possible).

I'm clear on the mechanical steps to install the drive, but there seems to be a few options on the side of software I found. I have a copy of Snow Leopard, which came with my MBP, so in theory I think I should be able to install an operating system from scratch, and then do the upgrades, right?

I also have a SATA cable / USB, I see that some have used to clone the existing HD. As mentioned above, I think I should start with a new installation of the operating system (which simply Mac store recommended for $80 there), so I don't think that cloning is the best option.

Here are my questions:

(1) if I install the new HD, because it is out of the box, and then insert my Snow Leopard, which will load the necessary drivers required? or do I need to format the drive (on the outside?) before you install it?

(2) I have a Time Machine recent backup contains all my critical data that I need to restore (for most all files MS Office 2011). I was intending to do a new installation of Office 2011 after the installation of the HD and then restore my Office files from the external backup of TM. I wonder if the TM backup contains only files, or if it also contains the actual programs (e.g. office). If the latter, is there another method I use to transfer other files that a full restore?

(3) also in this sense, once I get El Capitan, installed on the new disk, my TM of Yosemite Backup is in conflict with that?

Thanks in advance for any comments and help!

The f

I recommend to format the new external SSD for Mac OS extended (journaled) and either use Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner to load the data on the new SSD.  Installation of Snow Leopard is not necessary.

Ciao.

  • I need to format the hard drive but don't have the windows vista disc to reinstall, but have had the key code that vista was preinstalled do I have to buy a new drive for vista

I need to format the hard drive but don't have the windows vista disc to reinstall, but have had the key code that vista was preinstalled do I have to buy a new drive for vista

    Hello

    How to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Need advice on replacing hard drive Toshiba

I have other manufacturers with a 60 GB MK6021GAS HDD Toshiba laptop. According to me, the hard disk is endangered and I want to shoot anything on the restore disc to another new. I need everything from the disk because the OS image is one that has been charged by the company, with that I have a contract and apparently the standard that came with the laptop is not compatible with their applications that I have also loaded on the laptop.

I don't want to travel more than 100 miles in business COMPUTING of offices to have another OS loaded on the new drive I did not, so what I guess I want to do is to create an accurate picture of the existing drive, then restore the image to the new drive when I get it.

I tried to make an image of the disc using Paragon exact Image 7 SE, but download from the failed hard drive on a dump of DVD disc fails consistently, after copying 1.6 Go Go 8,32, the statement that the hard drive is damaged.

Another piece of software, Active SMART also reports that of the disk failure is imminent, reporting a status of 'Bad' for this disc. I have run chkdsk many times over the past months on the hard drive and on a few occasions, he isolated the defective sectors. So, everything indicates that the days of the disk being really numbered.

I want to be able to do is buy another unit of MK6021GAS HDD and get all the files from that defective to the new without having to reload the operating system, data software application etc.

Is this possible? If Yes, what is the best way? How can I get all of the disc if this software Paragon doesn't let me extract everything? Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
    Phil.

    Hi Phil,

Your problem seems to be that certain parts of your drive hard existing cannot be read and thus your attempts to copy the data on the drive will fail. You will need to use a suitable backup utility must take into account segments on your drive so that you can get a copy of safety as much as possible your system.

I know that Norton Ghost has the option to ignore bad sectors when you take a backup (I myself have used in the past). You could then do a restore of the magnified image to a new disk, but if ignored bad sectors were in a critical area of the operating system, then you still have problems after restoring.

Alternatively, you can copy both of your personal folders as possible to an external support and then reinstall your OS from scratch even if obviously would need you a valid drive of installation/recovery of Microsoft (or OEM). You can then restore your personal files.

  • Re: Problems with the hard drive on a Satellite A200

    Hello

I got my Satellite A200 (PSAE6E) for many years, and although I was interested for her order to to finally make the hard drive gives its first signs of failure. The symptoms started coming a few months ago. The disc will stop working, the system hangs, and I begin to hear a clicking sound from the disc. I'm afraid that one day it will stop working completely, and I can't afford without a laptop.

I would replace it for a new hard drive, or one that is in good condition, but I'm having a hard time finding information on hard drives compatible with this model. Could someone help me with this?

    Thank you
    Gloom

What you can do is to remove the original HARD drive and order the same.
What you really need, it's SATA HDD and you can get it in every electronic or PC Magazine. I assume the original HARD drive was about 200 GB. What you can do now is to buy a new one with more capacity.

Either way, what operating system are you using? I mean Win7 works perfectly on this old piece of hardware.

  • Need to replace the hard drive on HP DM4 2165-DX, need info on compatible disks.

    Hello.

The hard drive in my HP DM4 2165-DX failed.

Can someone tell me what [SSD and non - SSD] HARD disk are compatible can I buy and trade?

    Thank you.

You will need the service manual you can download here:

    Manual

Page 43 shows how to swap out hard drive.

There are 9.5 mm thick and 2.5 inch wide SATA drives, mechanical or SSD. Eventually, it was mounted with a 160 GB SSD, but you can install more if you wish. I recommend at least a mechanical 7200 rpm or a hybrid disc if you do not want an SSD, but if you can afford to spend the money a SSD is the only way to go.

It is the SSD, I have my own laptop (I have a 512 GB of the same drive model):

  • HP Pavilion g7-1167, which is needed to replace the hard drive

In fact, I have a few questions.

First of all, I was streaming How I Met Your Mother online when a box appeared and gave a kind of message (I don't remember now). He was just sitting there, so I restarted the computer. After the reboot, the computer would not go beyond the screen "start wondows. I ran a dignostic and it says that the short test failed. I then ran a diagnostic in the bios and it ran the short test, he failed, then he ran about 5% of the test long then stopped and said "hard drive full 1."

After looking online, I think it's a sign that it crashes. I already ordered the new hard drive and the kit at HP.

But now I need to know how to get all my info out of it. My brother has an external hard drive that I can use, but I don't know if it will work.

In addition, once I have installed the new hard drive I think I need to re - install windows and something else? Do I have to re - install and how do I do that if I don't have the disks? Can I do a recovery on that disk now, or is it too late? If so, how do I?

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about computers, so any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello

First of all, about your existing data, here are some options that you can try.

    1. one possible way to try to recover your files from a disk non-boot is to follow the process described in the link below.  The CD of the Ubuntu operating system you create can launched from the CD alone (IE it doesn't have to be installed on the hard drive) and I've often found to successfully extract data even a hard failure.  When you created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can save your existing files.

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/use-Ubuntu-Live-CD-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-Windo...

2 another option would be to remove the drive HARD, place it in an external enclosure - is an example of the link below - connect to another PC and see if you can access your files.

External 2.5 HARD drive caddy ".

    **********************************************************************

Regarding the reinstallation of the operating system on the new drive, I don't think that you will be able to create a viable together your disc recovery disc HARD existing, but you can order a set of replacement of the HP recovery discs using the link below.

    Order HP recovery disks.

If you have a problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

    Kind regards

On the second picture, I see that your Intel Matrix Storage Manager has not been installed on your Vista 64 bit OS.

On the European driver Toshiba page, you will find the 64 bit Vista drivers. Please download the Intel Robson Package from this site and install it. Robson package includes Intel Matrix Storage Management Utility for the management of your local storage space.

  • Need to retrieve the HARD drive off accident T61

My T61 crashed a while back and I would like to recover the files from the hard drive. The T61 used BIOS protection to prevent any intrusion HDD. I have my password, but no way to use it. I can attach it to another computer via the USB port, the drive will appear as unallocated. Suppose I need to ask for the password. Don't know how to do this. I have an older T60, but have been hesitant to connect this drive in it as the main drive, because the components are a little different and may not react as well. Certainly not worth damage to a work computer.

What is the best way to recover these files?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the forum!

You won't damage the T60 by inserting the hard disk stuck in it, and the material must be close enough for you to be able to clear the password in the BIOS and then to recover the files.

    Good luck.

  • A problem with the hard drive of your computer

Windows is not able to open a file on the hard drive of your computer. This could be a temporary condition that may disappear after you restart your computer, or it could be a more serious problem with your drive hard or its driver. I tried to restart my computer, I ran the hard drive error checking, nothing seems to help. Please advise?

    Hello

Go to the website of your computer manufacturer > find specifications of hardware in your computer (hard drive) > access the Web Hard Drive from the manufacturer site > download their diagnostic software > make a Bootable disc > test your hard drive.

    See you soon.

  • Do you need to partition the hard drive to install Windows Vista Home Premium?

I try to install Vista Home Premium on a Dell XPS 420 desktop computer and want to know if the hard disk must be partitioned before that I can do?

If I need to, how to do?

    Thank you.

You need at least a partition on the hard drive before you install OS, using management of build-in the windows disk, but there a lot of limit, if it could not reach your goal, you could use the 3rd party freeware
