Need for external monitor for Portege R500

The screen on the R500 (PPR50E-01301TEN) is fine for a use for an hour or two on the go, but if I use it constantly throughout the day, I get a bad neck and headache (perhaps the angle that you have to look as far as its small size). So I want to get the external monitors for her at work and at home. Home preference would be an LCD TV.

The problem is Windows tells me that the screen resolutions supported for the external monitor is 1280 x 768, 1920 x 1080 and 1920 x 1200. Linux wants to offer me 1280 x 800 or below, although I might be able to fix this with a little tweaking. Assuming that Windows is right, does anyone know of a 18-21 "wide screen monitor or a TV with one of the resolutions supported as its native resolution, or even a resolution supported? I can't find something.

It should probably be 1920x1xxx, 1280 x 768 will be quite grainy close up on a 18 "+ monitor." Why aren't all common intermediate resolutions on the monitors (1440 x 900 or 1680 x 1050) supported? If he can do 1920x1xxx, he should be able to make them.

As much as I know duplicator can not improve things. This external device just flow through the signal from the computer laptop itself.

What resolution do you need for your monitor?

  • Need drivers of Windows XP Home for Portege R500

    Hello dear friends
    I bought a laptop - Portege R500-106 with Vista,
I want to format my laptop and install Windows XP. I can do and how can I get the driver for my pc?
    Your Martin

    Hello

On the Toshiba download page, there are 37 drivers Windows XP Home for Portege R500. In my opinion, you can try to install Windows XP Home edition and use available drivers.

By the way: I guess that Toshiba offers Windows XP Home edition for this business notebook recovery DVDs. I think that ASP in your country can help you get the info on it.

  • No driver controller network for Portege R500 (Windows XP)

    Hello

I don't understand why Toshiba does not have the drivers needed to make a new Portege R500 WLAN works. I have absolutely no ability to wireless networking, as if the switch is off, and I have a yellow question mark in Device Manager of Windows ("other devices", "Network controller"). Windows can't find a driver on the restoration of two CDs and trying to install all of http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads doesn't help either.

Someone manages to find the drivers to fix this 'Network controller' for a R500 Windows XP? Maybe that my device has a hardware defect, because I can't believe this WLAN for XP support is not provided, out of the box or at least by downloading files on the Toshiba support site

    Thank you
    Olivier

    Hello

It is strange for me to read your ad one thing. Can you explain what you mean with: Windows can't find a driver on the restoration of two CDs.?

As much I know restore CD/DVD is not a kind of collection driver but the recovery image that you can use to clean operating system installation. Can you please tell me what restoration (recovery) CD you have? Are two of them for an operating system, or you have one for Vista and one for Windows XP Home edition.

I checked Toshiba's support page and it has a WLAN driver version 11.5.0.32 / 9.0.4.37. Download and unzip the driver files and before you start installing check readme.txt file first.

Moreover, for the installation of Windows XP Home edition please use the Instructions of facilities document and follow order listed facilities.

  • Where can I find XP x 64 drivers for Portege R500 - hotkey / power management?

Where can I find the downloads that will enable the power management or hotkey support for my Portege R500?

I already installed the drivers for everything except the fingerprint reader (do not want), tpm (really envy) and hdd (tos620a) motion sensor (not embarrassed at this time). Most of the drivers are recent original sites of the seller or, in the absence of those, leaving Toshiba 64-bit Vista download areas.

Everything else works generally: wifi, graphics & chipset, sound, lan, bluetooth stack, cardbus, card reader, etc.

However, after doing this, are the following questions:

FN keys do not work for suspend to ram, suspend-to-disk, * screen * brightness *-essential to extend the life. FN keys for digital/Board pad, rocker of external surveillance * work

Dedicated toggle backlight button does nothing

However, in order to get the lifetime of battery beyond ~2.5 hours and closest alongside 7.1 hours, I need to turn things down / stop occasionally. What software can help and where I can get, as it runs on Windows XP x 64 edition?

    Note:

I tried packages of 32-bit xp which provides Toshiba, they do not seem to work on x 64. The package 'chopsticks' requires 'cmod', but 'cmod' gives this error:

    Installation of Modules common TOSHIBA
Not an ACPI machine. Cannot install TOSHIBA ACPI peripheral logic.
    Ok

I tried the 32-bit xp package called 'pwrsav '; It installs a bad help link in my Start menu and adds a few exes, tpsmain and tpsoddctl, to my automatically starts. These 32-bit executables left immediately after execution.

I tried to install packages of 64-bit Vista from Toshiba hotkeys / common modules / power management, but the only one of the three I can find via toshiba.co.uk is the common modules, and unfortunately this zip file contains only .inf, .cat and .sys files, no program installation.

    Motivation:
I use a new installation at the same time because the default installation of Vista is unusable (900 MB of memory used on a fresh startup desktop, disk divided into several partitions, trial, adware and with broken software at left and right)
I use x 64 because I am software engineer the next product needs to work on x 64, and this new laptop was a likely first candidate

    Hello

    Bad news first :(

The European driver Toshiba page provides the drivers for XP 32 bit and Vista (32-bit & 64-bit).
I did find all the drivers for XP 64-bit OS.

As much as I know XP 64-bit drivers is not exist for one of the series of Toshiba laptops.

    Now a new better ;)

I found a tool called display Tuner.
It offers convenient access to the monitor settings, such as brightness, contrast, color settings.

Perhaps this is an option for you.
    Google a bit

    See you soon

  • Where to find Windows XP added value package (VAP) for Portege R500

Where can I find VAR for Windows XP for the R500 (SSD, without optical drive)? Because otherwise the fn keys do not work...
I tried to bypass the checking the version of Vista.

I customized and choose some options. Some fn keys work, others do not. And when we don't have each function key stop until I run flash back to zero (or something like that).

When can I suspect the VAR for XP software?

Sorry, but VAP (which means added Vista package) doesn't exist for Windows XP.
As the name already says s a package of Vista and is designed ONLY for Vista!

The FN keys are usually common Modules controller running on Windows XP.
So please make sure that this tool is installed.
In addition it is very important that all Toshiba drivers are installed in the correct order as mentioned in the installation instructions!

  • How to connect multiple external monitors to Portege R830

Anyone has any advice on how to connect more than one external monitor to a Portege R830?

I have a monitor through the station home, but when I attach a second monitor to the port of the laptop do not recognize at all.

It is used to work on my old Portege, but for some reason not on the R830.

    Any tips or advice?

    Hello

You use the same port in the docking station and Portege R830?
Docking station replica ports in order to use the Portege docking station port or port.

If you want to connect more than one external monitor to the laptop then I would recommend using something like Toshiba Dynadock

  • Set the rotation of the screen to external monitor on Portege M400

I would like to be able to use the screen of the mobile phone in the form of tablets, while the display to an external monitor. The problem is that when you use the laptop in its Tablet configuration (fixed and swivel screen on top) the external monitor displays the image upside down. If I rotate the screen image output, so I use the Tablet upside which is impossible when it is docked. Is it all the same independently set the rotation of the screen of the Tablet and the external screen?
If someone could help me with this I would be grateful as at this moment whether or not I have to remove the Tablet and use backwards the external monitor.

I use Windows tablet PC on a Portege M400 and a monitor external 22 "LCD

    Thank you.

Before we start the discussion I just have one question: do you want to use extended desktop or office cloned on external monitor?

  • Can not do primary external monitor on Portege M700 & Dynadock

It is impossible to make a screen Toshiba external 22 "the * primary * with the M700 Toshiba LCD screen as the * secondary * 'expanded '.
The external monitor is connected to the Dynadock DVI. Runing Win XP SP3.

The monitor works well as a display of volumes mirrored and extended with the M700 maintained as principal.
Externally also works very well as the primary _WITHOUT_ display M700.

When external is set as primary (and the M700 display is off), if I try to designate the internal display M700 such extended, the system reverts to the original with the M700 as main configuration and extended such externally.

Any ideas why it does not work with externally as a main and the only extended such M700 screen with the Dynadock?

Have you ever tried to test it, if you can define the secondary external primary and internal not using only not the dynadock?

I would also recommend reinstall display drivers and dynadock too.

  • I can add an internal dvd for Portege R500

I have R500-S5008X, that had been built without an optical drive.

Can I add the optical drive in my unit?

If there is no optical drive Bay where you can install an optical drive, then you can not do.

You might have to replace the motherboard, the coverage of basic, cable and other parts. It can be less expensive sale your R500 and buy the other R500 with a SIDE, or get a R600.
