Need help on a Canon DSLR upgrade

We had the original Digital Rebel and he failed and guaranteed has been replaced with an XTi at some point years ago.

My wife does most of the time catalog photography to Web resolution. It has no needs print, high number of pixels is not really necessary. This work mainly includes the clothes on the mannequins but also jewellery and bags/shoes/belts in a light box. Sometimes really close/macro for the stamps of jewelry is very convenient.

She is currently the target EF 17-40mm f / 4L USM on the XTi.

This camera has been well, but is to be upgraded.

My wives main concerns:

-LIGHT LIGHT LIGHT-> I'm not an expert, but she always seeks to get more light in his pictures. We have umbrella lights in his studio with high 5000 lumen k lights and a few other types of low-cost video-lights to increase the light. Even with these, she's always experimenting ISO higher and one additional lighting.

-Rapid fire. The XTi when using the built-in flash will often 'busy' and him to wait to take the next picture. Haven't tried a flash add-on to see if it's better.

-Light-> she's a small person and a lighter camera with long sessions of photography will help.

I was watching the SL1 as an update in our price range ($ 550 with goal by default or not). It seemed small and relatively the same characteristics than the 60 d/T5i and not far from the 70 d. The 70 d does not have better specs than the SL1, but the price range of 1000-1100 does not seem worth to its application. I think it would be money better spent on a better objective?

I'd be happy to.  Just a note on the T5i.  There is actually no more AF points, the points he has are all cross sensor.  However, a difference of $50, it's smart calling in my opinion.

On the lights (my favorite subject

I highly recommend manual only lightning (flashes).    The learning curve is just a bit more delicate than eTTL, but manual is more consistent, controllable and it will be much cheaper.  Another disadvantage to splinters is that there is no modeling light, if you don't see where the shadows are until you take a picture - but it is mainly for creative Flash photography, by the sounds of what makes your wife she will have some basic configurations and won't bother with it much.  And a final on the flank, batteries.  I don't know what kind of rate you're wife shoots - are we talking dozens, hundreds or even thousands per day?  If it's on the high side then batteries are going to drive you crazy.    If it's a few hundred a day then batteries are fine as long as she's ok by placing them in the charger each night.  If we are talking about the tens, then a set of batteries will last a week easy.

In view of these limitations, the absolute leader in off-camera manual flash is the Yongnuo 560 series.  The flash of 560III built in the RF Receiver, so you don't have to worry about cords or the line of sight or additional sensors.  The best part is that they cost only $70 and are more strong enough for your wife to shoot at ISO 100 and not even max flash.  Add to that with the YN-560-TX transmitter, photo that goes on your camera and you can control the power level and zoom all the 560III blinks directly from your device.  It can also control the non-560III with an extra receiver flashes, but it looks like you don't have to worry about this.

I recommend 3 flashes, as well as the transmitter.  Looks like you already have light modifiers and so on.  3 flashes can have a light touch, fill (or just another button for pictures of products where you usually get rid of the shadow), and it leaves a for your background if necessary.  That's $260 for 3 flashes off-camera with RF triggers - you won't beat that anywhere.

Of course, you also need the AA batteries.  The gold standard is the Eneloop.  Not cheap, but worth it if you shoot a lot of flash:

Looks like she got modifiers.  Umbrellas are fine, I've used them for many years myself.  But I moved to softboxes a few years and now my umbrellas only get used to photograph architectural.  If your wife has a studio and space (i.e. does not need something which can be folded for storage) the Fotodiox are amazing quality for the price.  They come in a variety of different forms, just make sure that the connector is for a flash, not a studio light.  Here is an example:

Otherwise there are several cheap, foldable style softboxes there, which give more control an umbrella (but not necessary, umbrellas are a fine option).

Really well written.  Just keep in mind (instead of him be overwhelmed with all this info) that what you try to do is relatively easy - small fixed objects that you try only lighting, instead of really creative.  Paste in a light box and put a flash on each side.  Or paste a soft box on each side at 45-45 (potrait photographers everywhere are dug at the thought) and a third on the backdrop, if you want white.  If you want black, better yet, just don't use a light (it's much, much easier with flashes that it's your current setup).

    I'm working on a movie/comedy short very short that has a lot of short clips, shot with a Canon 60 d in 1080 p/24. Pocket computer.

    My desired look is in my shorts, but a few clips are just two pretty jumpy. However, to stabilize in After Effects by a particular element of follow-up on the screen, I get an image that should be highly cropped and also a little just downright WEIRD because he has too much stabilization.

  • 4540 proBook s: need help for components choosing to upgrade.

    Given that I like much this laptop, it has a very good design, good durability and all that, I decided to use it until it breaks up what is unrecoverable. And because I use it for years, I thought to upgrade components. But there is one thing that keeps me, white list.

    Normally I buy a bunch of components and complain about here "WHY IT WORKS NOT HP * T' for each component that would not work, but I decided to ask you what components are in the whitelist so I can them carefully chosen.

    On my laptop, I can pass these things: CPU (plans to go for Core i7-3940XM), RAM (as much as possible), WLAN (any Intel with AC wireless card), SSD storage and use a disc HARD caddy to use the HARD drive. (who uses CD/DVD these days anyway? ) and screen (any IPS 1080 p with finishing screen mate, my current screen does not me, it's terrible.)

    So would anyone recommend me the components are whitlisted for this model? Or tell me how can I find out what components will work? Or if anything at least tell me if someone managed to recover a laptop (this model) via USB flash drive after a BIOS flash failure method, because I'll be playing with the white list, if I can't find the right components.

    Have you thought about what all of these components will cost?

    The top of the processor page seems to be an i5 - 3380M double heart and 8 GB of DDR3 - 1333 is the most memory you can install.

    There will be a white list of wifi and it is the only list of authorization. Compatible adapters are listed in the reference Guide. You must get the Ref. HP version of the map; not just one will not work. HPs are the hardest to try and install a hacked BIOS because there is a BIOS checksum block but go ahead. There is help out there if you look pretty hard.

    The SSD and installing a disc cart hard drive are certainly options. But by the time you match it all this you will be in the range of a new laptop, I think.

    I don't know where else to post this question since this isn't really a photography forum but rather a forum Lr4.  But I'm still very new to DSLRs and need help.

    I currently have a Canon T3 w / 18-55 Kit lens.  I would like to take pictures of landscapes, mountains and waterfalls, etc...  At the same time I need the ability to take pictures up or about 6 "of objects.  All the different numbers on lenses are confused the heck out of me and I was wondering if there was any advice - could someone give me a good Canon lens or two that will get me where I want to be.  I want to take close-ups and shots of distant/large.  Lenses certainly are not cheap, so I want to make the right decision.

    I recently bought a book by David Busch on the T3 and its capabilities, but I still have a way to go before finishing the book.

    Can anyone offer some advice or an overview of the importance of using the right lens or even a recommendation of a Canon lens?

    To see 'detail' of small objects like flowers, you have to shoot a lot closer (less than inches) for higher magnification. I have the same 18-55mm IS lens kit you have and checked the maximum possible magnification, which is with the longest value of 55mm zoom. I was able to focus down to a 1.5 "x 2.25" image size, which is about .63x magnification for full frame 35 mm 24 x 36 mm (95 "x 1.4"). Canon EF 50mm F2.5 on your T3 a one.5 x 1.6 = magnification of .8x, so you are pretty close to this already with the ability of the 18-55 mm. The main difference is that the EF 50 mm macro lens is designed to achieve a superior at close distances sharpness and produce images of superior quality of small objects like flowers. That said, that you can be very happy with the results of your 18-55mm, once you get the hang of using it for macro work.

    Regardless of the lens used the biggest difficulty with macro photography is framing, focus on your subject and keeping the camera "yet". Even slight movement will cause the focus to distances of these relatives, because of the very shallow depth of field (i.e. terms of sharpness). Here are a few things you can do that will help:

    (1) a tripod to help you compose the object in your picture.

    (2) set the mode "Av" and F stop of at least 8. You can go as high as F16 to increase depth of field. This will cause the camera to use a very slow shutter speed, which also requires the use of a tripod. In a pinch, you can use your Canon T3 up to ISO 3200 with some post processing in Lightroom noise reduction to shoot 'at hand '.  Use nag screen image from the camera to the full magnification setting to check the sharpness ' in the field '.

    (3) set your lens to manual focus (M) and use the ' Live view ' on your T3 with the x 10 magnification setting (read the manual of your T3).

    (4) focus on the Central "area of interest." You can use "Depth of field Preview button" of your T3 to get an idea of what is inside the "depth of field".

    And remember that Lightroom can do wonders on cleaning and improvement 'less than pefect' images to give them a stellar appearance! Happy shooting and LRing!

    There are some instructions step by step on the site, but basically you check out the file "update.zip" download, copy to the root of a FAT32 formatted microSD card, then start in recovery mode (press one of the volume buttons [which it depends if you are landscape or portrait mode] and hold, then the power press and hold). From there, you can choose to update in the zip file it finds on the map.

    It is important before you have the correct version of the update, it's different for different regions of the world, and you will not be able to upgrade the (for example) Brazil version from the US site.
