Need help sql server 2008 management Studio.

I imported a sql database to use Expression Web 4 according to a tutorial I followed from C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA. Later, SQL Server 2008 Management Studio running on XP3 returns error that it is impossible to browse the database, which is still on display in the DATA folder that contains all the other databases, as well as in the Expression Web folder, in that it has been copied. How the database for me to work with Management Studio? Glaust

Glaust, did you eventually get this working or is this even a question? If you can provide a little more information about what you were doing to import you talk. Am I right in assuming that your instance of SQL Server has the database is available for you to access through SSMS. Then, you have completed the import and now you can see the DB in the SSMS DB tree but you get the error and are unable to access the DB?

Thank you

  • Download Manager "Server returned an Error" when you try to reinstall SQL Server 2008 R2 180-day free trial

I'm trying to install the trial version of SQL Server 2008 R2 on my computer for the second time within the period of 180 days, because last time it has installed without Analysis Services, I needed. The first time it installed fine.

I do not get a specific error message - once the Download Manager comes to extract the SQLFULL_x86_ENU.exe file, a box opens and says "the server returned an error. Would you like to try again? "and continues to appear if I try again and block the Download Manager.

I have Windows 7 and a 32-bit computer. Is the question the fact that it is the second time that I install, or something else? I would have thought that the error would have been more accurate, if that were the case. If so, what can I do to get the software installed on my machine for the rest of the trial period?

    Thanks please help!

    Hello RobPeterscheck,

If this is your 2nd time to install, did you uninstall the original SQL version until you tried to reinstall?

You can temporarily disable the download manager in Internet Explorer and then activate once you have installed the download you want. This will help to highlight if Download Manager is the problem.
Log on with an account that has privileges Administrativer.
    Open Internet Explorer.

Click on 'Tools' on 'Internet Options'.
    Go to the Security tab.
    Go to custom level.
    Go to the downloads Section.
Find the file downloads tab and disable the option button.
    Click OK.

    Restart to save the changes.

Please reply back and let us know if this can help.

    Sincerely,

    Marilyn

  • How to upgrade from Virtual Center 2.5 + SQL Server 2000 to vCenter 4.1 + SQL Server 2008 (R2)?

I plan the upgrade of an existing VMware Infrastructure 3 (Virtual Center 2.5 + ESX 3.5) to vSphere 4.1, and I'm stuck in the Virtual Center Server upgrade and its back-end database.

vSphere 4.1 is released only as a 64-bit software, so he needs a x 64 O.S.; This excludes an upgrade the existing server on-site.

The plan is to install a new Server Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 (or 2008 R2 if taken in charge), migrate the database and install 4.1 on the server vCenter.

The question: How can I migrate the database?

When you perform an upgrade of Virtual Center vCenter 4.0 on-site, the database is automatically upgraded; but this isn't the case when you install a new server.

VMware provides a utility to clear the existing database and import it into a new server, but it works only for SQL Server Express (which according to VMware must not be used in medium/large production environments); If this is not an option.

I am unable to find a support procedure to perform this migration.

    Can someone please help?

    Massimo,

I just went through it and found it to be a little pain simply because I forgot to VMware document simplicity...

You are right, the 'migration' tool does support SQL Server Express, I don't know why and niether are the two VMware Tech Support Agents I spoke with.

To anyone reading this. NOTE If you perform the upgrade / migration SQL Server Express via the Migration tool you MUST check the registry DbServerType key FIRST! If it is set on Custom Migration tools will ignore simply stages of database! See this VMware KB article for more information:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=1024380

Yes, it is the States 'failure', what he does not say, it is that the Migration tool will be 'Silencieusement Skip' your database.

End of Migration tools do call a standard SQL Server T - SQL backup command. YAY! You don't have to upgrade your existing 32-bit vCenter Server, do first just in case backup/snapshot, then run through the upgrade as if you were going to use the 32-bit version in production. This step will apply to any database schema change.

Build your brilliant new 64-bit server, install all of the bits and then use SQL Server Management Studio to make a backup of SQL Server 32-bit database and then restore it on your new 64-bit server. NOTE: Make sure that all SQL and vCenter services are stopped before proceeding with the backup and restore of the measures.

After the restoration of the SQL on your new server it reboot and everything will come back to life just as it is only now with all 64 bit!

    Hope this Helps!

  • Services for SQL Server 2008 Express are not listed. No error message when installing.

    Hello community,

I installed SQL Server Express 2008 (without SP but with SQL Management Studio) on a Windows XP 2002 SP3 32-bit. Used to install operating system user is a member of the administrator group
The SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe installation file was downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7593 . Express Edition has been selected during the installation. All prior checks have been adopted (with the exception of 1 and 2 does not apply). I chose this version with management tools that I will need them for a quick change at a later stage.

Then I installed on SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369 - x 86 - ENU.exe, which is the general Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008, which has been downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20302. All prior checks have been adopted (with the exception of 1 and 2 does not apply). The installation window title was SQL Server Service Pack 1. In the step select the components, I had no other choice than the selection of shared components / basic management tools. To the right of the screen, it says "Express with Advanced Services" edition / Patch level: 10.0.1600.22

It ended with a message saying that your SQL Server 2008 upgrade completed successfully. The information contained in the mentioned log at the end of the installation displays no error message.

    Here is the troubled part

Then I tried to install a different SW that has SQL Server 2008 SP1 as a sine qua non. What he did not. Then I rebooted and wanted to see what version was indeed installed.

Control Panel - Add/Remove software : 5 entries, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 backward compatibility / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 political / setup of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 supports files (no mention of SP1, can this be correct?)
Control Panel - Services : there is no service of any kind that has SQL Server on its behalf. This is very probably a major problem, a google for that advice that there should be more of them
    Regedit - HKLM - SW-MS - MS SQL Server - 100 - Bootstrap Release - current Version : 10.1.2531.0 (Diffferent than SP1, think?)
Cmd - osql-u its Pei : named pipes provider: could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. / Login timeout expired

I reboot several times since then.
I don't know the status of the installation before installing the SP1, I knew I'd need SP1 anyway.

I suppose that services SQL Server issue resolved would be a big step forward.

Anyone has an idea on what I could check?

    Thanks in advance, Laurent
