Your router provides firewall protection, so the need is not the same
as if you had no a router. There are some who say you need to no.
all firewall software.

But my opinion is that you would be a lot safer if you have run a
router software, and since there is little reason not to, I
recommend that you do.

Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP

I agree.

@OP Windows XP (SP2 and above), Vista, 7 and 8 all have active firewall software by default.

There is no need of any 3rd party firewall.

Some users like running programs such as ZoneAlarm because it warns him from the processes that use the network, and then there is the possibility to deny/allow it on the spot, or deny/allow forever. There may be slight discomfort in the installation, but once it's for all your programs, and then it really can work in silent mode.

Microsoft Firewall simply leave everything default, but they can be configured manually to block anything outgoing or incoming.

  • get internet connection through another computer...

    Hello

I would go straight to the point :)

I have a desktop running windows vista. I have a normal internet connection through a router that connects to the internet on this desktop computer.

now, I also have a laptop with windows xp and here is what I do. my laptop's wireless was always bothers me, sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't work out... so I saw that there is an Ethernet card installed in the laptop with an Ethernet port.

    My question is this:

I have a lot of Ethernet cables at home and I was wondering if there is a way to get internet to my laptop via the Ethernet port on my desktop, but without needing the desktop computer to be running, cause I only use my laptop these days and my router is too far to connect from my room. I hope you understand my problem. In theory, I think it's possible to do, but I'm not sure how, so please help me on this one. my laptop also has firewire, but I prefer ethernet for some reason any.

    Thank you

    Hello

Sorry, but you cannot get a connection via another computer if the computer is off.

I'm not sure that I understand completely the topology.  However, if the office is connected by cable to a router for Internet connection, you can solve the problem by buying a simple network switch.

You take the cable from the desktop and connect to the switch. Then you plug the desktop and laptop computer at the switch.

That this switch network does, it divides a cable to feed many computers.

Example of a switch that can be connected with a cable to a router and feed 5 computers.

  • Can not share the internet connection through Wifi

    Hi all

I am connected to the internet using an external antenna connected via USB to my mac (WIRELESS n 801.11). I want to share this connection since my mac with other devices, i.e. my iPhone. I use the internet connection through system preferences--> sharing--> sharing internet--> connection on the part of wlan to computers via WIFI and give a name and a password for the wifi settings. When I start the connection icon wifi on the the high watch the arrow menu to the top, but it gives an IP address from 169 auto... etc etc and I can't any traffic to my iPhone.

I tried to configure IPv4 to use DHCP with a manual (instead of automatic DHCP) address and IP I enter the IP address used in the WiFi, wifi says that it is connected to the name of the internet connection in the shared connection, I opened but once again no traffic to the iPhone. Also tried disabling the firewall, once again nothing.

    I run El Capitan 10.11.2.

  • I need two network adapters to enable internet connection sharing in windows 7?

I want to share my internet connection wireless local network to another PC. But I can't seem to find the sharing tab in the properties of the wireless network connection dialog box... Please someone help me out... Thank you

    NO YOU DON'T NEED THAT

    HERE'S HOW DO
    Here's how:

    1. Log on to the Windows (the one that is connected to the Internet) host computer as administrator
    2. Go to network connections in your control panel by clicking Start > Control Panel > network and Internet > network and sharing Center and then click on "Change adapter settings" in the menu on the left.
    3. Right click on your Internet connection you want to share (for example, Local area connection) and click on properties.
    4. Click the sharing tab.
    5. Check the option "allow the other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection". (Note: for the sharing tab appears, you will need to have two types of network connections: one for your Internet connection and another that client computers can connect, for example, a wireless card.)
    6. Optional: If you want other network users to control or disable the Internet connection, select this option.
    7. You can also optionally allow the other network users to use services running on your network, such as servers of e-mail or web servers, according to the settings option.
    8. After ICS is enabled, you can Set Up an Ad Hoc wireless network or use the new Wi-Fi Direct technology so other devices can connect directly to your host computer to access the Internet.

    Tips:

    1. Clients that connect to the host computer must have their network cards placed to obtain their IP address automatically (look in the properties of the network, under TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 adapter, click "Obtain an IP address automatically")
    2. If you create a VPN connection between your host computer and a corporate network, all the computers on your local network would be able to access the corporate network, if you use ICS.
    3. If you share your Internet connection on an ad hoc network, ICS will be disabled if you disconnect from the ad hoc network, creating a new ad-hoc network or close the host computer.

    What you'll need

    • a Windows 7 computer with an Internet connection and another network card
    • client computers that are active and capable Internet connection TCP - IP
    • network card for each computer
    • modem for the entire network
  • Firewall, apps for Internet connection... Does not

    Dear community!

After spending a lot of time looking for work (non-) on the internet solutions, I decided to place the following query for support.

    Equipment:

    VAIO DUO 11

    System: Microsoft 8

    General question:

    a. Windows Update: breaking down; Error code: 8024A 000

    b. firewall/Defender: cannot be enabled, error Code: 0x8007042c, 0 x 80073601

    c. apps (in particular, STORE, MAIL,...): unable to connect to the Internet... I think that as a result of the firewall issue,

    d. switched to Microsoft Account (LogIn) at the Local account... not the way back, then the service not available... no internet connection.

I understand, to refresh the system would be the best... maybe... but there must be better solutions... I think so.

    Otherwise, the computer works well.

My understanding of the issues... and what I've done:

    a. Windows Update

Well, the convenience store helped, anyway sometimes braking down once again.

    Recovery using the Troubleshoot utility.

    b. firewall/Defender

    Well, it's a long story.

Firstly, firewall disappared "SERVISES"... repaired, but cannot be made for 'run '.

Tried many suggestions from the internet... "sfc/scannow". run "msconfig", soft for the detection and removal (of Microsoft) mailware, RegCure Pro,...

Not at all, simply does not.

Basis... also not filtering engine do its work... don't turn is not on.

    c. applications: unable to connect to the Internet

Well, it is for sure the consequence from the firewall program. As far as I (stupid user) understand and see, in the firewall

We can define the function, which program can go through the firewall and also if the firewall is disabled, there could be problems with the connection.

Yes, of course, I used the troubleshooter to troubleshoot network... connection with anything.

Well, when the upgrade to 8.1 will happen only STORE (such as the preview version)... go through the STORE.

    d. passed Microsoft account (LogIn) to the Local account

I shouldn't have followed a "suggestion" on the internet. Well, now I can't switch back to LogIn via the Microsoft account.

Of course, this disables certain important tiles... STORE, MAIL...

    Friends, is there any idea?

Maybe I should move to Windows 8 Pro?

Wait for the upgrade of Big Blue W8.1? Well... Don't STORE not accessible?

Thanks a lot for you patiency and time in advance!

    Waldemar

    Hi Waldemar,

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing.

I want to tell you that you are facing several problems with the computer, it seems that the operating system is damaged. Then I suggest that you perform system update to address all the issues and check.

  • Internet connection through different VLAN

Could someone help me here please.

Have a cisco SG500 2 (mode layer 3) configured with 3 VLAN connected to a modem adsl (Trendnet) - vlan voice 1 data, vlan 2, vlan 3 tests.  Routing between VLANs is ok I can ping any device in any vlan and have access to the internet through the vlan 1 but no internet access on the other vlan is the vlan 2 and 3. No ping to adsl, if I plugged in a device in the vlan 2 or 3. My question is do I have a router or firewall in order to provide internet access through all my VLAN or is it possible with the SG500 connected to adsl? a turn on ip Routing and the default route in my SG500, but still no luck. need internet connection for the PC as well as voip devices.

    Thank you

Hi Paul, the switch performs no NAT function so if your modem is only a modem giving public IP addresses then you would need a router to support the NAT function and support the vlan or the static routes.

If your modem works as a router, need you a static route on the modem to point to the SVI to the switch to allow the clients of vlan connection to connect to the modem to turn, what makes the internet work.

  • Having trouble with my internet connection through wifi. N600 router is what I think.

I had some problems with my internet connection recently via my wireless router. I get the little triangle yellow and with the connection at different times and I can't call my local internet provider because it still works when they are open, and then it closes when they are closed. I recently bought a Google Chromecast and some think it might interfere with the connection, but I don't see how. When I reset the modem router and cable by unplugging and plug their return they sometimes get the rear connection but it's annoying not knowing when it will go off again, then come back. A few months before the connection out sometimes but not several times a day. If you need additional information such as the type IP DNS stuff I can get it. Also recently I have updated the firmware of the Netgear if that makes a difference. Thank you!

Thanks to all who responded. I talked to my ISP and discovered that the modem was abandon the connection because he was old and he sold me a new and things work fine now. Thanks again!

  • Problem with internet connection through WIFI A536

    Hello.
I bought a few days ago the A536 Lenovo.
It works very well, it will connect to any wifi that I choose without problem, but after a while it stops internet access without obvious reason.
He remains connected to WiFi, it keeps the same IP address, I have access to the router (ping works, and I can access the router configuration) in my browser but I don't have access to the internet from any application (browser, Skype, Viber, Mail, etc...)

I tried a different WiFi (public) and has the same problem.
(My laptop and a phone HTC Wildfire, Guard works well all the time at home)

If I just simply disable and enable the WiFi antenna, it connects and it works again for 20-120 min

I tried to restart, disable Firewall (and security), disable all applications that could affect internet access, add applications 'safe list' firewall, I even downloaded "Lenovo companion" but it is impossible to find problems.
Wifi after awhile stops all communications to the internet.
It is very annoying, because no internet means no messages, no emails and no calls VOIP programs.

    Anyone has the same problem?

Is this A536 fault, or is this the Android 4.4.2?
Is there a solution, or I have to restore my phone while I can and select a different template, such that it is unnecessary in the end I bought?

    Hi Draculas,

1 check if there is no update firmware
    2. restoration of the factory

If the problem persists then take to service center.

  • Internet connection only in Mode safe mode with networking

I was using the Internet at home, when I had a pop up telling me there was an anti-virus program download. I pulled out the window pop-up, rebooted the computer and turned on safe mode with network. I thought it was just a problem of virus/malware/spyware. Since I installed several programs to prevent/remove any type of spyware (virus, etc.), I decided to run in safe mode, just in case. I ran the and after he said that my computer was clean, I restarted the computer in normal mode. The internet, however, did more work. He said that the Internet connection was closed portals HTTP, HTTPS and FTP. He also recommended that I check my firewall settings. I use the internet in safe mode with networking, and it works here though.

I'm not really sure what the problem is with the internet settings. I could really use some help!

    Hi AngelicaR,

OK, you should now check your firewall settings, to do so right click my network connection on your desktop-> select Properties (or click Start-> Settings Control Panel-> network connection)

Now right click on your connection to the LAN->-> Advanced->-online advanced, settings, settings-the default settings online-> restore default settings. This will restore the default firewall on your local network connection. Click ok on the screen and restart your pc to see if its working.

If you find the same problem again and then come to the same path: required connection to the local network-> settings-> Advanced-> settings-online Exceprions-> Tickmark the HTTP, HTTPS and FTP, also tickmark "display notification when firewall blocks a program" that will help you the notification to allow access through the firewall. Click ok on the whole screen, restart your pc.

    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot get internet connection through wireless network

I have a Sony VAIO laptop that came with Vista 32 bit and went from 7 Home Premium 32 bit.  I connect to the internet via my Ethernet via a DSL modem with no problems.  When I try to use the edge Intel 4965AGN wireless to connect to my DLink 655 Wireless N Gigabit router, it appears that it connects to the network, but there is no internet connection.  Both the router and the edge Intel have the latest drivers and the encryption is set on AES, WPA2-Personal.  Some additional information:

I have desktop computer Dell with a DLink USB WiFi and it connects to the network and gets internet

I constantly get the message from Windows saying: Windows has detected an IP address conflict with another computer on the network.  I restarted the router several times to no effect.

In network and sharing Center (of course the troubleshooting network said he found nothing) the network appears as a Public and unidentified and it gives me no option to change it to a home network.

I tried to connect to other networks public wireless (hotspots) and I can't connect it

    Hello

Something is wrong with the TCP/IP parameters.

    Autoconfiguration IPv4 address:169.254.1 52.88
    IPv4 subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
    Autoconfiguration IPv4 address: 192.168.0.1
    IPv4 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    IPv4 default gateway:

This 169.254.1 52.88 is the IP by default Windows assigns when there is no DHCP server, this isn't a working IP address.

The second IP address is the IP address of the Wired card. That is why router conflicted reports.

Configure the two cards for full Auto obtain IP and DNS.

Then do a WinSock and TCP/IP updating.

Type Cmd in the search text box.

Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run a command as administrator prompt.  Allow the elevation.

Type netsh winsock reset at the command prompt and press the Enter key.

Do the same process to refresh the TCP/IP just replace the command typed with.

netsh interface ipv4 reset Press enter

netsh interface ipv6 reset Press enter

    ipconfig/flushdns press Enter

    Restart your computer.

    Hello Ashan,

    Thanks for the reply.

You can try to follow the following suggestions to solve the problem.

First, try to reset Internet Explorer and see if that helps.

    Reset Internet Explorer

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/923737

Note: The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you have added to the list of Trusted Sites. Reset the Internet Explorer settings can also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the reset Internet Explorer settings. Reset Internet Explorer is not reversible, and all the previous settings are lost after reset.

    Additional information:

We can also refer to the computer or the device manufacturer's Web site and try to update the latest version of the network adapter drivers.

    (Also works for Windows 8)

Updated a hardware driver that is not working properly
