  So first of all, you can try to download the drivers again from the download page of Toshiba here:

  And make sure that all windows updates are installed. SP2 is important to be installed for some devices.

  After a small violin in microfinance on the value, everything worked fine, except the touchpad.  It is installed with a generic PS2 Mouse which means only a slightest touch sent the flying cursor.  I installed the Synaptics drivers, who work except it keeps hanging up.  The computer continues to operate and a USB mouse still works until it wakes up the touch pad.

  Anyone know where to get a driver for the touchpad, difficulty this or other ideas.

  You might be better off asking this question in the Satellite Pro section of this forum that you are more likely to attract the attention of other owners of M40 there. They would probably have disk tools and utilities with the real drivers and descriptions thereon.
