Need to move virtual machines and power over the other ESXi HA and issues of Configuration of power

Dears

Need to move virtual machines and power on ESXi others using the HA and Power Options

So what are the Options I need activate and deactivate:

Turn on Vsphere HA

Activate the tracking host

Admission control (disabled)

VM Machine Options

VM restart priority (medium)

Response from the host of off the power isolation

VM monitoring (people with disabilities)

Monitoring of (high) sensitivity

Heartbeat of data store (select one of cluster data warehouses taking into account my preferences) of the data store is checked

On each:

Start/stop of the virtual machine is turned off

Please indicate the required Options and on virtual machines, we are not turning on?

Just to be clear, that VMware HA will only restart the VMS if ESXi hosts fails - or surveillance of the VM is turned on which will be monitors VMs will they crash or suspend and restart the virtual machine affected.

and just to be clear, that the response of insulation parameter has nothing to do whther THAT HA will work or not - it does come into play if the ESXi host is isolated of the HA - Cluster

xMotion works only between active ESXi hosts that can communicate with the server vCenter - and if the ESXi host broke down or became isolated and vMotion may not work.

vMotion is automated with DRS that vMotion will a VM who need more resources to an ESXi host with enough reosurces.

  • can't resize HDD on any virtual machine XP, but on the other dare resize fine

Of size of drive running in something weird today where we noticed that via vCenter if we try to resize the hard disk of a computer virtual with XP as the guest operating system, is greyed out. With any other OS (vista, server 2003, win 2000 pro, win 7, Server 2008), we can resize the hard drive very well.

This applies even with brand new virtual computer, which do not even have an operating system installed. Just the Act of creating a virtual machine and to say the things that XP will be installed just grey on the resizing option. (This excludes other common mistakes - of course we do not have a snapshot on the VM brand new, and it is not running.)

Any idea what could happen? This is not normal behavior, is it?

Use the custom option instead of typical when you deploy XP guest.  In this way, you can choose which controller to use.  And to increase the space on the IDE XP guest, use VMware Converter.  And while you're there, step 3 change the controller type to SCSI LSI

  • ESXi 5.5 - Virtual Machine fails to PING the gateway and/or other hosts

    Hello ladies and gentlemen

    I have installed HP DL380p Gen8 1 with vmware ESXi 5.5.

I have 1 with 2 vmnic Virtual Machine port group - vmnic0 and vmnic1 connect 2 virtual machines. If I have the TEAM network cards, a VM (selected) randomly is able to PING to the gateway while the 2nd VM is not. ESXTOP in this case, don't watch not the physical NETWORK card that each virtual computer connects to but says 'all' to the title of the team-TEDDY.

If I break the team and you use only vmnic0 - none of the VMs connet to the gateway. If I create the vSwitch with only vmnic1 as usable NIC (vminc0 - unused) - once again only 1 VM (randomly chosen) is able to PING the gateway while the other is not (and two VMS use vmnic1 as the uplink to the vNIC).

The physical ESX host connects to a Catalyst Cisco 2950 switch.

Can you please advise where can I go from here? It could be a problem with the VLAN when it comes to vmnic0 (since none of the virtual computers are able to connect through this vmnic), but what is happening with vmnic1 (a virtual machine connects randomly while the other doesnot)...?

I tried several forums without success.

    Managed to solve this one-

    1. The uplink switch (Catalyst 2950) was Port security enabled on all THE Ports.
    2. I had to disable the port on a given set of ports security (to which are connected the physical network adapters).

Everything seems to work fine now.

    Bravo to all the entries!

  • How to move virtual machines from one host to another without full VI and vMotion?

    Hello

could you help me with a question?

I have two installed hosts with ESXi 3.5 U5, which are connected to the shared iSCSI (Openfiler) - VMs storage are installed on the storage disk. My requirement is to have a cheap solution of DR - in case of failure of a host, I need to move and start VM on the host of work. How to achieve without going through VMware Infrastructure 3.5 and vMotion?

    I found this article:

    http://www.virtualizetips.com/2010/04/how-to-move-a-VM-without-vCenter-or-storage-VMotion/

but RCLI needs Infrastructure of VMware ESXi does not have default CLI So, how to move VMs between hosts (of course I mean "cold" move) without byuing any additonal VMware SW? It is generally possible in my situation?

    Thank you.

If the virtual machines are running in shared storage (two guests see the same storage iSCSI or NFS) then it's simple. If a host goes down, then look for the data store on the ESXi host work. Navigate through folders for each virtual machine, right-click on the VMX file and add to the inventory. You will then be able to turn on the virtual machine.

To move a virtual machine from one host to another, as long as both hosts had the same processors, you can pause the VM on the single host, browse and add the virtual machine to the inventory on the second break host and the United Nations.

If the virtual machines are on local storage, but the two hosts are connected to the same shared storage, clone virtual machines on a daily basis from local storage to shared storage. Use something like ghettoVCB http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8760 make the clone. In the case of a server failure, you will be able to browse the data store, add to the inventory on the shared storage and switch the cloned machine.

  • Put a host in maintenance - it will automatically move virtual machines?

    Dear all,

We have a cluster with 4 guests and we would now like to upgrade each 5.50 to 6.0 ESXi ESXi host. I understand that we need to put the host in maintenance mode. He will automatically move virtual machines to other hosts? I read DRS is necessary. I see that our guests are permitted for Vmotion and HA. We have standard Vsphere license.

This means in our case, I would need to move manually first of all VMs before the host can go into maintenance mode? In the case where the Vsphere will make work, the virtual machines automatically distributing to 3 other hosts according to the resources available?

    Thank you

    Edy

This means in our case, I would need to move manually first of all VMs before the host can go into maintenance mode?

Yes, since the Standard edition doesn't include DRS, you must manually move virtual machines to other hosts.

In the case where the Vsphere will make work, the virtual machines automatically distributing to 3 other hosts according to the resources available?

Yes, this would be the case with the DRS in place.

  • Best method to move virtual machines Linux of VC 2.5/ESX 3.5 to 4.0/ESX4 vCentre

    Guys,

I have to move a number of them. The two groups are there. If it is not a question about the upgrade of the VC/ESX. I want to use the simplest method possible to move these VMs and here's my plan:

1 copy the whole directory of VM from the data store on VC 2.5 to the data store on vCentre 4.

    2. Add the virtual machine to inventory in vCentre 4.

    3. upgrade VMware tools

    4. switch to hardware version 7.

And that's all. Please let me know if this plan is feasible, or more importantly, no holes in the plan.

    Thank you

    Hello

    You have a few options:

    1. you can bring up the old data store for ESX 4.x and save the VM on vCenter 4.0.

    2. you can add that the host ESX to vCenter 4.0 3.5 move virtual machines in ESX 4.0 cluster.  You can use vMotion and Storage vMotion, according to your needs.

    3. you can use the stand-alone converter to make a hot cloning of Linux virtual machines in ESX 4.0.

    Best wishes / Saludos

  • Possible to suspend a virtual machine, and then disconnect the SAN?

I decided to do an interview on a small environment ESX 3.5 and I was wondering if its possible to suspend a VM and then disconnnect the SAN to maintain SAN.  If I record data suspends storage local would this work? Is it more fast and stop the virtual machine and the power save?  There is the performance of 6 virtual machines on a single host with a single iSCSI SAN.

was wondering if its possible to suspend a VM and then disconnnect the SAN to maintain SAN.

A suspension is identical to a power off, it shows just the guest to Hibernate.  So yes, it is safe.

Is it more fast and stop the virtual machine and the power save? There is the performance of 6 virtual machines on a single host with a single iSCSI SAN.

No its not faster, its more fast and more reliable to power off the virtual machine rather than suspend.  If you need to follow the process and suspend its critical use, otherwise a scheduled interruption is better.

  • Delete a partition in a virtual machine and expand the initial allocation of hard drive

I have created a virtual machine running server 2012R2 with an allowance of 60 GB drive. I decided after doing hours of work on the virtual machine I had assigned too little disk space for the virtual machine. I decided that I just go in vSphere and change settings and add to the existing space. The problem is that it has created a new partition rather by increasing the size of the original, which doesn't help me. How can I remove this new partition and just expand the original that has been allocated when I created this virtual machine?

    Thank you

    Hi Paul,.

    Could you clarify what you mean by;

The problem is that it has created a new partition rather by increasing the size of the original

    (A) do you mean you modified the virtual machine and added a second disc, rather than increase the size of the original? or;

    (B) you increase the size of the original disk and create a new partition in this free space?

    Be that as it may, the question should be simple to solve;

    (A) remove the second disk you don't need, increase the size of the original. Then from the OS Disk Manager, rescan the disks and extend C:\ in free space.

    (B) delete the partition that you don't need. From the OS Disk Manager, expand C:\ in free space.

    See you soon,.

  • Storage DRS, move a virtual machine that is in the data store is not a member of DTS

    Dear all,

If I've set up storage DRS that contains, for example, DS1 and DS2. I have another virtual machine that resides on DS that is not part of the cluster of DTS. Can I move this virtual machine to one of the (DS1, DS2) data store? OR will some disruptions?

    Thank you

    Jocelyn,

Which is correct in both cases. You can leave DTS place it for you (which is my suggestion), but I thought you wanted it to go to a specific data store.  That being said you can reactivate the DTS for a virtual machine under the SDR change settings if you do not ever clear for a virtual machine

  • How do to activate 'VAPP Options' on an existing virtual machine, and then add the properties that will be passed down through the OVF - ENV. XML

I'm trying to understand vSphere PowerCLI how to activate the "Options of VAPP" on an exsiting VM (in this case a model freshly cloned) then add properties and select cdrom of the FVO data access such as when the virtual machine is running the FVO - env.xml contains the properties in the CD-ROM drive.

If I use the vSphere client and open the virtual machine settings and click on the tab 'Options' and then select "Options of VAPP" and change the setting to "Enabled" and then select 'VAPP-> Advanced Options' and click on the button 'Properties' on the right, I can add the properties and then I can change them vsphere PowerCLI, but given that these actions are not retained if I clone the virtual machine I need a way to put these in place of vSphere PowerCLI without using the vSphere client to do.

Thanks in advance for the help!

    Mike

You can use the vSphere API to activate the 'Options of VAPP"on an existing virtual machine, and set properties. For example:

    $spec = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec

    $spec.vAppConfig = new-Object VMware.Vim.VmConfigSpec

    $spec.vAppConfig.property = new-Object VMware.Vim.VAppPropertySpec [] (1)

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0] = new-Object VMware.Vim.VAppPropertySpec

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0] .operation = 'Add '.

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0] = new-Object VMware.Vim.VAppPropertyInfo .info

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.key = 0

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.classId = "Property1ClassID".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.instanceId = "Property1InstanceID".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.id = "Property_1.

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.category = "Property1Category".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.label = "property 1.

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.type = "string".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.userConfigurable = $true

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.defaultValue = "Property1DefaultValue".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.value = «»

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.description = "Property1Description".

    $vm = get-VM-name vm3

    $vm. ExtensionData.ReconfigVM_Task ($spec)

  • Sharing of virtual machines and the NETWORK adapter settings

I usually have multiple NICs per physical machine, and I often map more than one NETWORK card in a virtual machine. This does all work well with 'regular' virtual machines and virtual network Editor. I use 10.0.1 on linux 64-bit Workstation.

As soon as I share a virtual machine, the NIC mappings cannot be changed in any useful way. I can spend only NAT, HostOnly and connected by a bridge in a ComboBox control, without the ability to select a specific vmnet. Although connections are bridged, they are displayed as NAT, which makes no sense at all...

What is the reason for this? I'm doing something wrong? If this is the intended behavior, it's shared VMs useless for me...

    Kind regards

    Thomas

I reinstalled VMware Workstation and now I understand what happened.

I need ever - and HostOnly-setting in NAT network, so the first thing I usually do after installing VMware is to remove them and fills vmnet0 to eth0 and eth1 to vmnet1. This works perfectly well with non-shared virtual machines.

For shared virtual computers, this mapping has been messed up somehow. Now it seems to work fine, I removed all the vmnets and has created vmnet10-> eth0 and vmnet11-> eth1.

If the problem is solved for me; but I can't say how the maps I screwed up. I certainly had two bridged devices, but has been shown only a single bridged device.
