Need to reformat Vista but don't have the disc

I have windows vista Home premium 64-bit and I need to format, but I don't have the cd I don't have product key what can I please?

Hello

How to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

You must use the Toshiba Recovery disk or the original disc of Microsoft Win XP with a clean serial key! You cannot use a version of Win XP as part of the serial key you found at the bottom of the unit that this key belongs to the OEM version pre-installed on laptop and will not work with any other version of Win XP.

Since the M40 is an older model mobile phone, you will not be able to order recovery of disk he abandoned s

  • Need to reinstall Vista, but don't have a recovery disk or a Vista disk

    Hello.

I have a Sony Vaio CR series (model VGN-CR36G/B) laptop. It comes with Windows Vista Home Premium OEM. I don't have a disk of Vista when I bought my computer. Also, I received no recovery discs, although I had a recovery partition set up on top of the computer.

My hard drive has experienced a total mechanical failure, which means that I could not recover all the data. I now have a new hard drive cool. My question is, since I've paid for Vista delivered during the purchase of the computer, can I get a DVD of Vista now Microsoft? I am currently in the United States, which means that contact with Sony Center India (where I bought the computer) will take time. I have my Windows product key. Who will be of any help?

    Thank you.

    Hello

You really need the Sony OEM disc as it has special drivers and utilities on this issue only Windows retail version
would not. It is 'possible' that the rest of Sony have the same model and you can use those
disks if they will work for you other wise, like languages.

This is my generic answer, so that you know some options well since you will need to re - install from
scratch on a new drive hard is really no choice except to get the disks.

Check with your system manufacturer that they all slightly different methods. They may have included a recovery
Partition or other methods to restore the default value. Also your system manufacturer will sell you the physical disks at a great price
    Since you already own windows.

    Hello

My title says about the history. My hard drive (XP) died and the local tech confirmed is not a replacement value (it's an old machine).

I have a MacBook and that you have loaded Parallels on it so that I can run Windows. Now I want to install XP on the MacBook, but I don't have the installation disc.

    1. is there somewhere I can download it from?

    2. once I have it loaded, my product key will work?

3 anything else I should be aware of when to load XP on a MacBook?

    Thank you

    Thanks for the reply.

I bought the laptop used on ebay from a company that has sold thousands of refurbished machines. I know that she buys lots of companies that no longer need them, wipe data, reinstalling Windows and then sell them. Installing XP is legitimate, because the laptop has a certificate of Authenticity on the back Microsoft.

So I suspect that the Windows installation is not related to the motherboard.

    Other thoughts?

    Thanks again.

It is quite possible that XP has been reinstalled on your computer using an OEM disc "generic" as well as your product key from the computer.  However, the product key itself is linked to the motherboard.

For example, my son recently bought a used computer from a friend.  The friend had removed the original hard drive and replaced it with a smaller.  The computer has been a mess, but that's another story.  No installation disk came with the computer, however, it doesn't have the product key on the back of the case.  I replaced the hard drive with one more great I had on hand and then used an OEM disc 'generic' to reinstall XP, which works perfectly with the product key of the computer.  However, this computer must die, product key can be moved to any other computer.  The product key is the original computer motherboard.

In short, a product key of your laptop if it is by the OEM product key, will not work on another computer.  No matter how legitimate the software's product key will not work on another computer, it is not transferable.  Product keys for the full retail version of Windows can be moved to another computer; However, the key to product can only be used on one computer at a time.  If the computer in question is delivered with Windows XP preinstalled, it is extremely unlikely that nothing else than the version the manufacturer OEM has been used.

  • Vista software: don't have a disc on purchase

    Hi all

I have a desktop computer: Pavilion model a6001.uk (about 6 years).

I don't remember getting the Windows drive on purchase. It came with Vista Home Basic Edition is installed. I've upgraded to Windows 7 a few months ago.

My PC is so SLOW (!). I tried everything, but now I think I want to do a total reinstall, but do not have the original disc of Vista.

How can I get around this do this uninstall/reinstall?

    Thank you very much.

    Reevo

    @ erico,.

Most abandoned computer brand manufacturers supplying recovery/restore disks and/or operating system in 2003/2004. Actually, yesterday I came across a HP support page which clearly indicates that HP stopped providing OS XP and in 2004, and HP recovery disks never provided all the Vista or Windows 7 discs of all kinds.

    @reevo,

If you do not create your HP recovery disk when you first set up your computer, you need to try to buy a game as erico has already pointed out. However, there are other ways to proceed if you are not concerned about losing the "value-added" software from HP which is preinstalled on your computer.

    (1) install Windows Vista first;

Follow the instructions presented in THIS Web page, such as published by Paul_Tikkanen in the forum thread HP not titled "No copy of my CD of Vista Home Premium". You use the Windows product key from the COA Microsoft on the side of the computer.

    or

    (2) to install Windows 7 without having to install Windows Vista;

Insert the Windows 7 upgrade disk and start the computer from the Windows disk. Install Windows 7, answering or following all prompts if necessary (DO NOT enter the product key Windows 7 when asked - this information will be entered later). Once Windows 7 installation is completed, activate Windows. Windows 7 should ask you for your product key... Enter now and activate the computer.

I suggest using the #2 method, because it provides a cleaner installation with a minimum of clutter and remains. It will be as fast as possible without upgrading the hardware in the computer.

If this computer comes with an OEM, the license for the operating system license is dead when the motherboard was changed because he filed another computer. You will need to purchase a commercial operating system version.
