  • forgotten user password to connect to the computer that works with Windows Vista Home

    version Windows vista home my daughter composed of a password that she can't remember now, we can't access the computer.  How to enter and reset this password without factory default and lose all the images and files?

    You can change your password to something that you remember another administrative user account. If you had only an administrative user account and you have forgotten the password, all is not lost. You can then follow the general recommendations for implementing user accounts in Vista that I will give you at the end of this post.

    All this requires a certain level of computer skills. You know better and that take the machine to a competent local computer tech (not a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad place) is the best solution for you.

    If you have an installation of Vista DVD (not a recovery DVDs), you can start the system with it. Select the default language, then select "repair your computer". Then select "Command Prompt". At the command prompt, type:

    NET user administrator / Active: Yes [press Enter]
    NET user [insert here the name of your user account] [insert the new password of user as 1234 here] [press Enter]

    [Note: do not enter the brackets!]

    Remove the installation DVD and restart the computer. Now, you will be able to connect to your user account by using the password that you set; for example, 1234.

    If you do not have a Vista installation DVD (only have a recovery disk), the computer mftr. may have given you the option to repair Vista (not a system recovery!) system in the diagnostic menu. This menu of diagnosis is the same one where you can choose Safe Mode. Get to this menu by repeatedly pressing the F8 key as the computer starts. If you do not have this option, you can make a bootable Vista file repair DVD in this link:

    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/

    Note: All the Neosmart recovery disk downloads are torrent files. There is a good explanation of the torrent on the site Web of Neosmart files. You will need a torrent as muTorrent client to get the files. Torrent client will download the .iso file with which to create the bootable DVD. You will need to use third-party burning software such as Nero, Roxio or the free ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com ) to burn the image .iso image file, not in the form of data.

    Once you have fixed things, log on to the additional administrative account you will be made by the suggestions below and disable the administrator account integrated yet for security reasons:

    Start Orb > Search box > type: cmd
    When cmd appears in the above results, right-click and choose "Run as Administrator" [OK]. Now, you will get the command prompt. At the command prompt, type:

    NET user administrator / active: No. [Enter]

    Exit the command prompt.

    General recommendations for creating users in Vista:

    You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all the other modern operating systems, Vista is a multi-user system with integrated system of accounts as default Administrator and comments. These accounts should be left alone because they are part of the structure of the operating system.

    In particular, you do not want one account user with administrative privileges on Vista because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult.  It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but there may be more that you want to do. Better not to put you in a bad situation at first.

    The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. As a user Standard is recommended for security reasons and will help protect your computer against infections. After you have created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

    If you want to go directly to the desktop and ignore the Welcome screen with the icons of the user accounts, you can do this:

    Start Orb > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
    Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

    Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null). MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

This is a major threat. Paul

    Hi Paul,

    1. what anti-virus software do you use?

    2 you use the password while logging on to the user account?

    I suggest you of change the logon window and the shutdown preferences in Windows XP to resolve the problem.

    Setup configures Windows XP to use the friendly welcome logon screen and close buttons, if your computer is installed as a computer (a computer where a network domain has not been specified).

    This article describes how you can enable the classic logon screen used by Windows XP Server that resembles the following example:

    Log on to Windows

    User name: _______
    Password: __________

    To temporarily use the classic logon screen, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete twice on the Welcome logon screen.

    To configure Windows XP to use the classic logon and shutdown for each logon screens, follow these steps:

    a. click Startand then click Control Panel.
    b. double-click user accounts.
    c. click on change the way users log on or off the power.
    d. Click to uncheck the use the Welcome screen check box.

    Note: If you disable the Welcome logon screen, you also disable the fast user switching option.

    If you want users to press CTRL + ALT + DEL before the classic logon appears like a Windows XP-based computer that is joined to a domain, follow these steps:

    a. click Start, click run, type regedit in the Open box and then click OK.
    b. click the Winlogon subkey at the following registry location:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
    c. click change, click newand then click DWORD value.
    d. to change the name of the value, type DisableCADand press ENTER.
    e. keep the data value set to 0. The set of data values appear as 0x00000000 (0).

    Warning: Ask users to press CTRL + ALT + DEL before the classic logon screen appears.

    If you don't want that, then come back in a classic.

    Note: To do: Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

    For reference, click on the link below:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/PC-security/protect-PC.aspx

    Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    I hope this helps.

  • How to manage stored user names and passwords on a computer under W7?

    I would like to remove a few names user ID in Yahoo.  Where can I manage these in W7?

    Hi KKBrown,

    Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community Forum.

    It appears from the information you want to remove some names to user ID in Yahoo.

    It would be useful that you can answer these questions to help you best.

    1. you are trying to remove information from Yahoo mail?

    2. you access yahoo mail using the client program webmail or email?

    2. what web browser do you use?

    If you try to delete the user name or password stored on Web sites that you have visited previously by using internet explorer, you can see the article and check if that helps:

    DeleteAutoComplete information

    If you try to manage the usernames stored and passwords on Windows 7, you can use Credential Manager to store identification information such as usernames and passwords that you use to open log on to websites or other computers on a network.

    For more information, see the article:

  • Find the user name of connected people Foglight anytime

    I found the method in the safety Interface that will give me the number of active users, but is there a way to find the username of people who are connected?

    Following the code give me the int count of connected users, but I want the "username" instead of int count.

    def securityService = Server ["SecurityService"]

    Return (int) securityService.getActiveUserCount ();

    Hi Jonathon,

    As you mentioned, there is no method in SecurityService that returns a list of active users and getLastLogon solution would be misleading, because it refers users who may have already disconnected.

    Here is a script that checks the audit all the logs of the user connection and disconnections and returns a hash table that shows you the last action that each user took.

    Check the connection status of users for the last day. Note that, by default, inactive users are disconnected after 60 minutes.

    def auditService is server. AuditingService

    Calendar cal = Calendar.GetInstance)
    Date endDate = cal.getTime () //now

    Cal.Add (Calendar.DATE-1) //yesterday
    Date startDate = cal.getTime)

    auditRecList = auditService.getAuditLog (startDate, endDate)

    [HashMap userStatus = []]

    {auditRecList.reverseEach}
    {IT.each}
    auditRec->
    If (auditRec.getServiceName () .equals ("SecurityService") & auditRec.getOperationName () .equals ("httpsession")) {}

    userStatus.put (auditRec.getUserName (), auditRec.getName ())
    }
    }
    }

    return userStatus

    In my lab, it returns this result:

    [completed merve:Session, closed merve2:Session, foglight:Session creation]

    Hope that helps.

    It's something really simple, but I don't see what else to say.

    You can create a local user with the command:

    username cisco password cisco123 privilege 15

    Then to assign local ASDM and SSH authentication, you enter the command in respect of the case:

    the ssh LOCAL console AAA authentication

    Hello Ashan,

    Thanks for the reply.

    You can try to follow the following suggestions to solve the problem.

    First, try to reset Internet Explorer and see if that helps.

    Reset Internet Explorer

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/923737

    Note: The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you have added to the list of Trusted Sites. Reset the Internet Explorer settings can also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the reset Internet Explorer settings. Reset Internet Explorer is not reversible, and all the previous settings are lost after reset.

    Additional information:

    We can also refer to the computer or the device manufacturer's Web site and try to update the latest version of the network adapter drivers.

    (Also works for Windows 8)

    Updated a hardware driver that is not working properly
