Networking M1000e

We ordered a M1000e chassis. We use Dell Force10 MXL blade switches (2) for networking. My question is that the switch MXL comes with 2 ports QSPF +. We also ordered (1) of these (Module 10GbE SFP +, 4 ports, Hot Swappable, 4 x SFP + ports (optical or direct attach cables needed) (331-8187)). WE have 1 but we want redundancy. My question is can I use a cable QSFP + who has a connection to 40 GB on the end of switch MXL and use 1 or 2 of the 10 GB SFP + cables on the other end in my Cisco switch? WE have not enough ports 10 Gbit/s at the moment to use all 4. I don't know if we need to use all 4 cables of 10 Gbps or can use 1 or 2 and develop in all 4? We think just go back the 331-8187 and using the drop cable.

Using an extension cable for the connection of the switch will work fine. With cable bypass, you are not required to run all the lines on the same unit, or use them all at the same time. Each of the four 10 GB cables will act as a single port.

Page 406 of the configuration guide details how to divide the QSFP port in ports SFP +.

  • M1000e chassis, CMC, M6220 OOB, IDRAC and network management

    Hello

I'm currently trying to isolate all elements of management on our network to a VLAN dedicated.

For the moment, I'm a bit confused by how the OOB of the M6220 in my M1000e chassis communicates with the rest of the network.

It would be correct to say that the MCC is the interface used for all blade IDRAC communications as well as the M6220 OOB?

Since the OOB cannot be marked a VLAN would not enough to affect my management VLAN IPs to all above mentioned interfaces and then just by linking the CMC to a port of LAN VIRTUAL marked on one of my main past?

I hope someone can enlighten me here.

    Thank you.

Yes. You are right. All Modules IO (M6220) and the iDRAC management interface is through CMC. You can set the VLAN for all Modules IO and the iDRAC. To configure VLAN for the CMC and other modules in the chassis, connect you to web interface CMC and cross 'Chassis overview-> network-> VLAN.

  • Reference Dell M1000e + aggregator MI/O port mapping

    Hi all

I intend to install a new chassis Dell M1000e with Dell M/o aggregator. During the time of solution, I have a few questions about correspondences between the physical uplink with NDC blade ports ports. A Please check the config below and specify my queries?

    My hardware:

    • 1 x Dell M1000e
    • 2 x M i/o aggregator (A1 & A2)
    • 16 x M630 Blade (Qlogic 57840 S ANC four ports card)

    Reference DELL M/o aggregator:

    (reserved for Future use) module QSFP + 2 ports (Port No1:33 - 36 & No2:37 Port-40)

I want to use these two modules for my blades 4-port Quad and the confusion I had, how to associate these 16 ports (8 ports of each module) to the server blade and the amount of bandwidth I will get by blade with redundancy.

Module 4-port SFP + 10 GbE (Flexi-O of the Bay) (Port No.: 41-48)

Module 4-port 2/4/8 Gb FC FlexIO (Flexi Bay 1) (Port No.: 49-56)

FYI - I would like to install ESXi 6.0 on all blades

    Thank you!!

    Vinay

Oriented server ports are configured automatically as part of the aggregation of links groups if the server is configured for the LACP Protocol. Static GAL is not supported.

You will use the segregation network VLAN. A VLAN for network traffic and the other for the CF. Here are the commands to configure interfaces for different VLANS.

    Unidentified:

Dell (conf) # tengigabit interface 0/16

    Dell(conf-if-te-0/16) # vlan unidentified 4

    Output Dell(conf-if-te-0/16) #.

    Tag:

Dell (conf) # tengigabit interface 0/16

    The tag vlan Dell(conf-if-te-0/16) # 4

    Output Dell(conf-if-te-0/16) #.

Traffic from servers will follow the path of the VLAN. For example, if an internal server, facing the port is set to VLAN 4, that traffic will be transmitted on the uplink port which has also set to VLAN 4.

By default, all external ports are placed in a single whole LAG. However, you can change the configuration to support several shifts of uplink. Page 159 of guys configuration takes you step by step on setting up several shifts of uplink.

The aggregator automatically configures to match the FCoE parameters used in the switches to which it connects through its uplink ports. FIP snooping is automatically configured on an aggregator. Automatically configured port channel (LAG 128) works CWF port mode. See page 86 for more information and examples of config.

For redundancy, you could stack the units together. 241 page details the process of stacking.

Page 54 of 102 of the Guide blade IO has one other diagram that details more internal server port mapping for each blade.

  • SCOM 2012 follow-up M1000e + PowerEdgeM910

    Hello colleagues!

Here's the situation. We have M1000e enclosure with 7 blades PowerEdgeM910.
I am new to the material through SCOM monitoring, so please sorry if my questions are dummy :)
Now, the goal is followed by this material through SCOM 2012.

    My steps:

    (1) I downloaded and installed the latest management packs and imported into the management server in SCOM 2012.
    (2) I installed agents on my blades M910 (on Windows Server)
    (3) I discovered M1000e enclosure via the rules of network discovery and found it (snmp)

So for now, the problems are:

    (1) I don't see in the SCOM monitoring State (inband) view that a single blade server first physically installed in the enclosure.
So why I can't see the other 6 blades? What should I do to fix this?
    (2) I see in the status only at CMC base view of the case. Is this normal?
    (3) how to monitor iDRAC consoles? Measures?

Oh then it is the problem. You must install OMSA on all servers that are uncovered through In-Band.

You can get on the Dell support site.

  • Helps the FS7610 PS Series SAN, 10Gb network design

Hi, we have currently a square of infrastructure EqualLogic SAN and NAS (2 x PS6510E, FS7500), a stack of two PC8024F 10 GB switches, 2 envelopes chassis m1000e blade with the A1 being a set of switches 1 GB m6220 fabric (fabric A2 a battery of the same thing), the tissue being a pile of m8024k B1 10 GB passes, (fabric B2 a battery of the same thing) and a stack of PC6224 two 1 GB (top of the grid GigE) switches.

We all have this connected to the 10 GB being its own private network 10.1.0.x SAN network and vlan, nice and isolated from all the rest.  The blades can access the iSCSI shares via their network cards of 10 GB which is all on this network 10.1.0.x.  The NIC 1 GB on the blades are on a public network, and the FS7500 of the customer ports are on this network too via the 6224, so NFS connections are established via the public network to 1 GB.

We intend to invest in an additional PS Series array to the host to a backup site, for replication.  At the same time, we plan to buy a FS7610 to our main site to take advantage of our 10 GB infrastructure and move the FS7500 existing to our backup site, so we can replicate iSCSI and NAS container volumes.

That's where we could use some help, because now many things have changed.  Now, the SAN must be on the public network for replication to succeed, AND to take advantage of the connectivity of 10 GB and sharing NFS mount of the FS7610 through 10 Gbit, we need to use network cards 10 Gbit and switches in the network of the client NAS, that are already used for iSCSI traffic (and will in the future be used for connections to SAN vmware hypervisor).  In the FS7610 install and set up the guide, it says

    • Use the switches for network client and for the internal network and the SAN.
    • Use separate subnets for network client and for the internal network and the SAN.

We can move the SAN and it is a dedicated subnet network and VLAN that is on the public network without problem, but my main concern is to be able to satisfy the recommendations/network configurations required for the FS7610 and avoid the local SAN/NAS traffic through a router to ensure connections of 10 GB.  Advice or tips are appreciated!

It is the same thing that you are dealing with Linux, but TCP/IP standard routing.   You cannot route private subnets directly on the internet.  We need to create a "Wan".   Do not directly routed on the internet.

Your WAN will create a private network and a tunnel over the Internet.   OpenVPN is a possible solution.

A very widespread scenario might be:

Once you have put WAN in place, on the internet of these routers would be a true internet address (e.g., 62.x.x.x.x) so the two WAN devices can communicate with each other.   They create a VPN tunnel with a new subnet, say 10.3.0.x.

The WAN router primary side would have a leg on the subnet 10.1.0.x, say with 10.1.0.10 IP address as your default route on the side of EQL SAN 10.1.0.10.

On the side of the DR this router would have a leg on the 10.2.0.x subnet, say 10.2.0.10.  The default GW on the side DR would be 10.2.0.10.   The router knows how to move packets between networks using the standard range.

Looks like all you're missing is the "WAN" VPN tunnel between sites.  You want something that will encrypt traffic between the sites anyway.

    Who help me?

    Kind regards

  • M1000e with M8024 (problem connecting to pass)

I have a Dell Poweredge M1000E Blade chassis with two switches of the M8024.

I configured the IP addresses of the M8024 (B1 and B2) on the CMC web.

All ports on the controllers of chassis are connected to my network.

I can connect without problems to the M8024 into the slot in B2, but cannot connect / ping / access the M8024 in B1.  I have tried power cycling/replace the switch but no luck.

Any suggestions?  I tried not to do anything via a SERIAL connection.

    I understand the problem!

CMC M1000e chassis preview / network / config VLAN.  The VLAN Tag parameter has been activated for the M8024 in B1.  This prevented work properly on our network, because the vlan defined for the specified VLAN ID was not set up.  I unchecked the box in the column "Enable" (for B1) and he now available!

    Thank you!

  • Help with M6348 connecting to a Cisco network

    Hello

Can someone help me with best practices by putting R710 via a M6348 stacked with a cisco network.

    Our configuration is the following

    M1000e

    2 x 1 GB pass-through fabric a

    2 x M6348 wired in a pile in the B fabric

6 x popular R710 with four NIC ports in the fabric B (3 are general purpose servers, 3 are Hyper-V servers in a cluster)

    Cisco network

For most of the Cisco 3560 switches

20 VLAN (1 per building) configured, mainly for the isolation of traffic (VLAN 300-320)

What (I think) that we want to

The M6348 connect to the core network in a SHIFT (4 x 1 GB ports. Can it be divided 2 ports each of the stacked M6348?)

Have a mapping of right for 1-3 to VLAN 301 R710

Configure R710 4-6 for access to all VLANS for the Hyper-V hosts can be placed on the VLAN correct

Use the fabric for the connection to the San

Network management is carried out by a third party (we are unable to change this) and they claim that they are unable to connect Cisco/Dell!

We are server guys, guys network no, so something stupid (especially for Cisco to give to our management company) would be appreciated.

We tried to configure the switches in Simple mode, using a Dell deployment guide, but all we seem to get is the default VLAN to all ports on the switch 1 battery, but no other VLAN and no active port 2 in the stack.

I've probably missed lost info on and were not very clear, so if more info is needed, please get back to me.

Thanks in advance for the help

    Rich

Thanks for the information updated, actually, this confirms that the problem is with the connection to the Cisco switch. Is that what we tried a general link, instead of trunk?

    mode console # switchport general

Console # switchport General allowed vlan add 300-320 tag

Console # pvid General switchport 301

    Console # end

Are we sure that the VLAN 301 IP address is 10.49.56.0? This doesn't seem fair.

When we try to pings on the trunk/General connection to the Cisco switch, make sure you that the servers have the default gateway defined on the VLAN IP address they are in access mode. Thus, when in the access mode VLAN 301 the gateway server would need to be 10.49.56.0. I would like to verify that the IP address, however.

  • Chassis & 10GbE blade M1000e through Modules

We rotated M620 blades with 1 GB Pass Through modules without any problem. The M620s have the Qlogic\Broadcom cards mezzanines KR 10 GB for slots chassis A1\A2.

We have just bought a few Pass through modules of KR 10GbE and exchanged out them. in the same locations of A1\A2. When the configuration of the BIOS, we get green link is turned on with our Cisco Nexus switch which shows a connection on the port, but when ESXi6 is loaded there is no link (orange light just on the module). NIC in ESX is set to automatic (will not force the 10 GB according to VMWare).

Tested updates, driver updates, change cables Twinax Dell SFP + and fiber but no link. If I put the 1GbE modules back in they work fine.

Strangely, at one point I did get network link in ESX running a single passthrough but have not been able to recreate it. Am I missing something that I do not see a reason for this which is why they should not work? This chassis we test on is quite old (2008) and we use just to test before deploy us in our new M1000e chassis. What is the material inside the frame at the origin of a problem that has subsequently been updated?

You should be fair exchange in the chassis with the median plan 1.1.

  • Helps the blade networking

    Hi all

I currently have a Dell M1000e blade enclosure with some M710 blades with 6nics.  The switches on the back of the blade are stacked 4xM6220 switches.  After you have configured everything that I wanted to test the failover so I have disabled the internal NETWORK card ports that map to the NETWORK adapters on the blades, however when I did this VMware still saw the NPI as online when well even I loose connection to my service console if I disabled this particular port/NIC I changed the status of the link to beacon probe but this has had little effect.  Anyone know why Vmware would see the nic as online even if the port is disabled on the internal switch to which the NIC is connected/mapped to?

If your Blade Server 6 natachasery, you can use the combinations written by Edward for more details here http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/36359 and if you want to optimize your network knowledge you suggest to read Ken post here http://kensvirtualreality.wordpress.com/2009/03/29/the-great-vswitch-debate-part-1/ which helps a lot on networking designs.

If you do not have cellular service on your phone, then you contact your phone provider and let them know that you can't get their service on your phone.

  • Bluetooth network is not available

Been trying for a while to use AirDrop on my MacBook Pro (Version OS X El Capitan 10.11.6) and my iPhone 6 s more.

Just realized today that it might not work because the Bluetooth on the Pro does not work. With each device I try a pairing, it says that the network is not available and that I need to make sure that network access is enabled. Trying to do this, system preferences > network > Bluetooth PAN, I get the same message. I need you to ensure that network access is enabled.

Someone else had this problem? Any ideas on how to solve it?
