Networking Windows 7 with XP using the router and no internet - machines cannot be

Hello

I searched the web and tried all kinds of suggestions to do this, but my new Win7 machine does not always show my daughters XP machine, and vice versa his XP machine is not showing my win7.

I don't want to have access to the internet so currently have my machine win 7 connected directly to my hub blank so that I can access internet from my win7 machine.  I then another connection from LAN port on my Win7 machine to the router which is also connected his XP machine.

In my networks and sharing on Win7, I see my homegroup network, which has access to the internet.  Then the other network to the router shows as "unidentified" and the public, but I am unable to change anything on this subject? So can't make a working group or at home.

The XP machine has also recognized the network and created a shared folder for its own files, but nothing for the win7 machine.

Both seem to recognize the router and network, but not each other.  Am I missing something?  If it makes any difference, I've already named two machines with the same workgroup name.

Is anyone able to offer advice?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Vicki

Hello!

First you must make sure that the two PC's on the same workgroup. Just checking if they have the same subnet mask. And finally make sure you works discovered the network on Windows 7 PC.

If computers are subnet masks different IP addresses, they will not be able to see each other.

That I understood your message, you don't want to not PC your daughter to have access to the internet. You can assign static addresses of daughter and your computers. Try to do this:

1 assign to computer on Win XP LAN network card public static address 10.0.0.10 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.  To do this, go in Control Panel > network connections, choose the connection you must edit (the one that goes to the Windows 7 computer) and click Properties. In the windows that opens, double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Then choose use the following IP address and fill in the fields with the information above.

2. the PC Windows 7 go Network and Sharing Center > change the settings of the card and double-click adapter that connects the computer to Win XP. Click on Properties and Internet Protocol Version 4. Then choose use the following IP address and put 10.0.0.11 subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

3. on the Windows 7 PC to go network and sharing Center > advance change sharing settings. In the public profile check turn on network discovery.

4. make sure that both computers are on the same workgroup (important)

After completing these steps computers must be able to meet and communicate.
Hope this will help. Please let me know the results!

  • VPN site to Site using the router and ASA

    Hello

I have a Cisco 1812 router that is configured for remote access VPN using IPSec (Cisco VPN Client), my question is if I can configure a Cisco ASA 5505 to connect to the router as a VPN from site to site.

    Thank you

    Karl

    Dear Karl,

Yor are right, in this case you can create a tunnel vpn site-to-site between devices or you can configure your ASA as hardware VPN client. That is to say; Easy VPN.

For the same thing, you can consult the document below.

Linksys WRT54G Router is and I've just updated to firmware 4.21.1 but the old firmware is has never worked. I use 192.168.1.1 for the router.  Linux has some IP fixed all the other usind DHCP.  ISP is a provider of mobile phone to the modem.  Just like cable or DSL, I guess.  I've looked everywhere with no solutions.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • Wireless devices cannot connect to each other using the router EA6900

I use the 2.4 Ghz network and none of my wireless devices are able to communicate with each other...  I could not connect to a wireless printer to my laptop wireless (through the router) and thought it was unusual.  I tried ping does not work either.  I then plugged a cable ethernet to the laptop and could ping the printer wireless without a problem.   I tried other devices (wired and wireless connections) and it seems that no wireless device can ping any other wireless device.  If, however, one of the devices is connected, it works fine...  All wireless devices to connect to the router and internet without problem... It's just when they try to communicate with each other.  I have experimented with the desktop using the ethernet adapter, then the wireless adapter... same results.  My wireless using my previous router devices could communicate with each other.  It's almost as if this device has insulated AP running if this so-called it doesn't support that.

Customer service said: I'm the only one with this problem.  Does anyone else have this problem?

I have an ea6900 and it works fine for me. Sounds almost like you are connected to the guest network which would be sort of this way. Did you do a power reset? It has never worked? Try to remove the power and back to see if it clears up it.

Buy new cables just in case... it dosent work

use LELA 1.6 to try and re-setup/installation/configuration of the router... says I don't have an internet connection

updated LELA 3.0 or 3.2 I forgot what was it, and it does nothing

tried to disable the network to try to turn it back on to see if it would help what whatsoever, and it the connection decides to disappear out of my zone connections network completely and then I don't have any internet at all the

  • 100% Windows 8 using the drive and Windows Update problem

I'm going to completely horrible with windows 8.  I use the computer for two reasons

1.) to run a machine virtual linux which performs calculations for my work

(2.) to run a very small application that connects to another computer and updates a display based on what is sent to it.  This application also shuts down the computer when the network computer told him to.

The computer is not connected to the internet, so I chose not to do the windows updates (in Control Panel, never check, do not update, etc...), now that I have a set of drivers that work well.  Took me to update to the latest version of windows 8 (not 8.1), so that the service representative would talk to me, and the problem is more serious.

I also disabled windows update service.

Also, after startup, svchost.exe takes 100% of the use of the disc for anywhere from 1 minute to 3 hours.  It is usually about 5 minutes, but takes more time after an update.  I reinstalled windows many times, and the problem persists.  When no other applications running, 10 minutes after the start, opening of windows Explorer takes about a minute.  This computer has a disk decently fast (I tried to replace), a processor quad core and 16 GB of RAM.  When running normally, it is extremely fast.

My problem is that when I'm at work, a team of 20 or so programmers and engineers may have to wait up to 3 hours for the use of the disc down before you start to work because Windows 8 is unable to work properly.  How can I get rid of this?

I am considering really just to start the linux and rewrite of the application image bit will run in windows, but I don't want the headache of Active Directory on linux.

Try this link for windows 8 & virtual machine. Also, if it's a pc intel based,.

go to intel.com/support/software/drivers,locate the update utility intel that

will scan the pc for auto drivers/software.

Even with the new CD of the OS, you must always configure the hardware on the pc for

the operating system, most of the cds do not understand that. No windows OS takes also, that

long to make it ready for the tasks, no more than 10 minutes without

Progress, stop the execution of its tasks, its in an "open loop"...

  • I used the backup and restore of the backup C on pc. Then tried to open saved files with IE and started acting weird.

    zip files

I used the backup and restore of the backup C on pc.  Then tried to open the files saved with IE.  IE went into free fall.  ???

I have no idea what opened the backup files when you have double-clicked, or if you will not quote you took after doing this...  However, the official way to 'Browse' the content of the backup...

You can view the contents of your backup by opening the wizard to restore files.

    1. Open backup and restore by clicking on the button start , clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance and then click Backup and restore.

    2. Do one of the following:

      • To view your files, click Restore my files.

      • To display files all the, click on restore files for all users. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. Do one of the following:

      • To browse the contents of the backup, click Browse for files or click Browse for folders.

When you browse folders, you will not be able to see the files in a folder. To view individual files, use her browse for files option.

      • To search the contents of the backup, click search, type all or part of a file name, and then click search.

If you back up to the top PC (VHD) integer then you mifght consider this trick:
    http://www.Petri.co.il/mounting-Vista-backups-using-Windows-complete-PC-Backup.htm

According to the edition of Windows Vista that you have (and how useful, you will find the possibility to look at old versions of a given file and possibly restore), this could be useful to you:
    http://www.ShadowExplorer.com/
    (not a replacement of relief.)

With regard to the rate of success vs. failure rate of backup - it is difficult to measure.  Indeed most of the people backs up incorrectly.  It's really * not * enough to set a backup and forget about it.  If you test ever that your backups work/glance to see if you are backing up the good thing - it's just not wise.  Although most people expect that it is essential that the backups were working properly (not a test, a real emergency) to be discovered.  Most individuals who report failures, unfortunately, fall into this category "when my aircraft crashed and I went to my backups - it turns out _ backup _ does not and never told me...» ».

A question... If you manually create a ZIP file (not a backup) - can you still Explorer in it as a folder?

To test... Create a folder on your desktop.  Copy some files into it - of different types.  I say COPY and not MOVE on the goal here - because you can just blow this folder and all that results from this folder later if it was all fair copies of things.

Make a right click on this folder and choose "send to" and "compress (ZIP) file and give a name to the new 'folder '.  (It's really a file.)  On your desktop, you should have the original folder you created and copied some stuff in, and a new "folder" with the name you just gave.  If you open the 'new' folder - you should see the name of the folder that is still on the desktop and go to this folder, you should see the files.  You literally use Windows Vista to the 'discovery' inside a ZIP file as if it were a folder.
