  Depends on hardware configuration required on later operating systems, and also find out if the manufacturer of the laptop computer is supported and provides drivers for operating systems later as to whether it is possible or feasible to upgrade or not.

• Finally built my new i7 920 system!

  Hi all - particularly evil and JIm for their support and advice...

  I received the components for my new i7 920 system yesterday and built today.

  components:

  I7 920 D0 stepping

  PP power & cooling psu 910 watts

  ASUS P6T mb

  2 x (3x2g) games of matching ram DDR3 1333 to 12 GB

  2 x DVD rw drives

  1 x rw Blu - Ray player

  System 1 x 160 GB WD drive

  1 x 500 GB Seagate drive cache/storage

  work of 2 x 500 GB Seagate drives totaling 1 TB - raid 0

  So far so good - no problem!

  I was able to boot the new material from my old drive system that ran under a processor of 6000 AMD Athlon x 64 and a Biostar A770 A2 + MB. I just installed new drivers for Asus mb and things well seem so far. I have not tweaked anything in yet another bios then the date/time and boot device and order. Eventually, I'll install a new copy of Vista x 64 OS and CS4 on my new i7 system and rebuild a my NLE, but for now - I'm happy.

  I can't wait to see how much faster some rendering and transcoding Gets!

  I have attached a few screenshots from CPU - Z, so you can see some numbers. Notice that the ram type in the ' SPD/maximum bandwidth box' is listed as PC3-10700 and PC3 - 10700 H and not only 10600?

  In addition, in reason matched sets, slots 1/3/5 that all show the same timings Table frequency for that set and slots 2/4/6 show another frequency for this game.

  

  

  You said that you have defined your 172 BCLK. What did you do in the BIOS?

  Turvo V is only intended for small adjustments. If you do anything too drastic, the tension can get in the way of success.

  My best advice is to set the BCLK in BIOS to 172 and leave everything for the moment, put car other than the AI Overclock Tuner, which should be set to manual, otherwise you can not set the BCLK to a desired position. Monitor the temperatures while doing this!

  You can keep it, but after installation of clean operating system, you will not be able to start the installation of recovery more. Now, when you press F8, you repair my computer option. After the installation of clean operating system this option will disappear.

  What you need to do is to create DVDs of recovery or recovery USB key before you install own OS. Be careful about this.

  Document reading s user manuals. You will find exact description, how it works.

  1. Yes, AFAIK to restore it without problem. You can make a recovery of the HP DVD bootable USB key, simply copy the files will not make the USB bootable, it needs to be. You can buy a usb DVD drive to use the HP DVD recovery

  Thanks for your reply, but I think that I have fixed my problem.  When I built the system, I never could the 2nd strip of memory to work.  It would not just start my system at all.  I thought all along that I had a problem of memory based on my last sentence.  I finally went out and bought another brand memory and did not have a BSOD on the last 2 days.

I tried to install the program cd old printer on the new laptop and it says that my printer is too old for my new system. My printer is still great, and I hate having to buy a new one!   The driver can be downloaded from HP here.  Download the driver, and after you download it, run the program.  Do not connect the printer up to be instructed by the installer.

  I'm in the market for a new desktop computer and want to do a lot of video editing (using Roxio and Vegas Movie Studio).  I want to know the specifications to ask.  I need to know if it is better to get a 64-bit operating system processor AND... OR... a 64-bit processor and a 32-bit processor or should I just stick with 32-bit systems?   I'm afraid that my drivers and existing software may not be not compatible with 64-bit processors.  I want a system that will be able to also change the HD videos.

  Any help with explanations would be appreciated.

  I use a HP Elite d5000t with Vista 64 bit and I have Vegas Studio 9 installed and it works great. The specifications of the box didn't say it works with Vista 64-bit, but it does.

• New HARD drive system works well, can I re - connect old system HARD drive?

  Having to buy and install a new system SATA disk, I would like to re - install the original system disk to restore some data that was not included in the backup.

  My old drive failed allow connection by cutting the keyboard and the mouse after post is completed. With the help of members, I tried several routs to a restore point, but I missed gradually restore points for trying.

  So if I turned off the system and plug the old system SATA drive I create a conflict with two disks with numbered volumes C:\?

  Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

  If it makes a difference at one of my default computer will choose the original as boot drive drive, even if its been removed and a new drive installed, then the old disk installed next to the new drive. This is why you should check the settings of the BIOS as described in my previous post.

• Brand new Windows 7 system: battery plugged in, not supported

  I just got a brand new Acer Aspire 5542-1462 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. I have almost exclusively while plugged operated. Battery in the notification area icon indicates that the battery is at "97% (plugged in, does not support)." How can I get the battery charge? Is there a threshold above which it does not load? Some features of the system if they will help you:

  battery Li-ion 6 cells

  This is how it works:

  1. When you turn on your laptop, if your battery is more than 95%. you will get the message "connected but no charging current.

  2. When you turn on your laptop, if your battery is less than 95%, you will see the message "blocked and charge" until the battery reaches 100% (not 95%). That is why sometimes, even if you see that your battery is at 97% and load, this means before starting your laptop, the battery was less than 95% and reached 97% since then.

  Apart from the above explanation it seems some problems with the mentioned error. So, try the following steps as well.

  1. click on Start and type device in the search for field, and then select Device Manager .
  2 expand the category of batteries .
  3. under the batteries category, right-click in the list of Microsoft ACPI compatible with battery control method and choose Uninstall .
  WARNING : do not remove the Microsoft AC adapter driver or any other compatible ACPI driver.
  4. on the taskbar of the Device Manager, click on Search the hardware changes .
  You can also select Action > search the hardware changes .

  Disconnect the SATA cables to all your drives except the drive hard that you plan to install Windows on and the DVD player. Also unplug all devices except for the keyboard and mouse enternal.

  Then, enter the BIOS and configure the DVD drive as the first boot device.

  Now try the reinstall.
