I recently bought a new computer with no phone jack. I want to connect a landline to him if I can use my phone. Is there a way, or the thing I can buy so it's possible. A usb modem would work in this situation for me?
waylonx3 wrote: Compaq - Presario Desktop model: CQ5600Y
Hello waylonx3, here is the link for the specifications of your system. It shows that your system has 2 slots, PCIe and a PCI slot.
Your system should be able to use one of these modems of type. I would check the motherboard of the system to make sure that you have a PCI slot or available PCIe and then you can order one that will work in your system.
Here is a link to Amazon, where you can see some phone PCIe and PCI modems. They also appear in other places.

WallyYou may encounter temporary connection related errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates

As for your 2nd question about the updates of Windows - Win 7 If you run Norton, you might have a problem. It can accept updates for Vista, but when you upgrade to Windows 7 it does not updates allow.

I bought a new computer with Windows 7 free upgrade. We also have another office.
I bought a new computer with Windows 7 free upgrade. We also have another desktop computer. My son has paid and downloaded Windows 7 Home Premium on this computer (Asus), not knowing that I had the free update. ASUS sent me free upgrade disks. Can I use these on another desktop computer? Or I can download Windows on another desktop computer and transfer my registration to it, and then use the Asus drives on this computer?
Your question has nothing to do with the functionality of Windows Update (vs Windows upgrade), Jan.
That being said, Asus only can answer your specific question. Good luck!

Original title: upgrade question.
I currently have a PC running XP in a system with an IDE drive. The system has many applications that the company has moved the installation discs, so I need to move the contents of the entire disk to a new system. I was about to do the following:
System backup with a recovery boot disk, in this case a USB.
Restore the entire operating system to a new system that will have a SATA drive in it. The new system will have a COST for Windows 7.
Start the XP and upgrade to Windows 7.
My question is, will it work or the absence of the COA of XP on the new system will prevent me to install?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
The fShort answer, "no, this will not work."
It is unclear what you mean by 'backup' and 'restore', but it seems that if you are referring to the creation of a disk image or a clone of disk on an external drive and then either restore the image or cloning to the new computer. Assuming that both of these computers was provided with Windows pre-installed, this process will almost certainly result in a facility that cannot be 'activated '. In addition, unless the software you use has something like Acronis Universal Restore, restore the image from your old computer to a player in a new computer with a different hardware simply will not work.
In addition, the lack of an XP license is not the issue. There are several problems with the process you describe, but basically, an "upgrade" from XP to Win 7 requires a "custom installation" which means that applications should be re-installed.

I now have a computer with Windows XP and wanted to buy a new computer. All new computers come with Windows 7. Is it possible to buy a new computer with Windows XP (or buy one with Windows 7 and remove it and install Windows XP)? I like XP and have talked to people who are not really happy with Windows7 and holds XP back. AND I also discovered that my printer is not compatible with Windows 7 - it is not that I love him and want to keep it. I can't afford to buy a new computer AND printer, since I have been unemployed for more than 2-1/2 years. I would like to use XP on a new computer! I would appreciate it if you could let me know what is possible or if I'm stuck with my old computer. Thank you very much!
Probably not, you will find a computer with XP on it.
If you buy a computer with Windows 7, you will first need to know if it would be compatible with Windows XP. Probably not, because they are not designed for XP and drivers are not available.
Unless you want to spend the time, you're stuck with your old computer.

Transfer of Windows XP on a new computer with Windows 7 so that I can upgrade.
I have a Dell Dimension L433c with Windows XP loaded on and I always use it for now (I will throw it away as soon as I can do this transfer). I want to transfer programs from Windows XP and my Word and Excel files in addition to the other programs stored on the Dell on my new computer with Windows 7 Premium Home 32 bit on it and then update the programs.
My problem is that I can't save on Dell's CD drive and USB port is broken. I have connectivity to the internet and would like to send me the program and then save it to my new computer. I tried without success. Is there a list of guidelines that can guide me through this until I receive a call from home professional? It is not possible to transfer programs from one computer to the other. You will need to install the programs on the new computer, using the original installation CD or the installation files that you downloaded from the Internet.
When you get the new computer, you can transfer your files (Word, Excel, photos, music, Favorites, etc) to the new computer via a network connection to help Windows Easy Transfer in Windows 7 program.

7130 on the new computer with Win7 usb auto installation, cannot now w/ethernet network
I have a 7130 Officejet which is connected to my network by ethernet. I just bought a new computer with Windows 7. This printer does not have a downloadable driver for Windows 7, but the drivers that are compatible with the printer are delivered pre-installed on Win7. The problem is that I have to connect the printer by USB to activate and install the drivers, which I did. I don't see a way to restore a connection to the printer via ethernet after the use of the installation of the USB driver. This will be necessary, because I'm changing more than one computer to Win7.
OK, assuming that the printer is connected to your network with an IP address valid:
1. make sure the printer is on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by accessing its IP address before continuing.
2. click on > start > Control Panel > devices & Printers.
3. click on add a printer
4. Select local printer
5. Select create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port, and click Next.
6. under device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under the name of host or IP address, enter the IP address of the printer. Click Next.
7. Select Hewlett-Packard in the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model is not in the list, then select disk provided, browse the CD that came with your HP printer and select the first file begins with hp and ending with INF. click Open, then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
8. If prompted, use the driver that is currently installed.
9. He will ask the name of the printer - enter a new name or use the one existing. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. we may ask you to share the printer. Choose No.
11. the printing area of Test Page is displayed. Go ahead and print it out.
12. click on finish. -

Hello Kenneth
See my response to a similar q in the thread above...
You can use DVD or CD, but an external drive or a USB is so much faster and easier.
