New doubts of Time Capsule

When you set up a new time Capsule, if it "replaces" the old time Capsule, what happens to the information on the old Time Capsule? If she is transferred to the new? If it is deleted on the old?

I have a new, faster 3 TB TC and want to make the main machine on the network instead of the old TC 1 TB. I don't know whether to use the new TC to expand or replace the old TC. Above all, I want to assure you that the stored information is transferred to the new TC but NOT erased on the old TC, at least not yet.

If anyone can clarify the situation, I would appreciate it.

When you set up a new time Capsule, if it "replaces" the old time Capsule, what happens to the information on the old Time Capsule?

On the 'old' Time Capsule network configuration settings are transferred to the 'new' time Capsule and the 'old' Time Capsule is reset to default network settings.

If she is transferred to the new?

If "it" you mean that are network, the configuration settings on the 'old' Time Capsule, transferred to the 'new' time Capsule the answer is Yes.

If a 'he' you mean the data stored on the hard drive of the 'old' time Capsule, then the answer is no.

If it is deleted on the old?

If "it" you mean the network configuration settings, they resume their return to the default settings on the 'old' Time Capsule.

If a 'he' you mean the data stored on the hard drive of the 'old' time Capsule, then the answer is no.

I don't know whether to use the new TC to expand or replace the old TC.

It would depend on whether you need additional coverage of wireless signal in another room of your home. If you do, then the 'old' TC can be configured to "extend" the network provided by the 'new' TC.  It would be better if you connect the two TCs together using a wired Ethernet cable connection, but a wireless connection would probably be OK if the TC extension where it can receive a strong signal of the new TC's wireless.

I want to make sure that the stored information is transferred to the new TC but NOT erased on the old TC...

Here again, not sure what you mean by "stored" as there are two different types of stored information. See answers above.

  • Add new Mac full time Capsule (delete old backups)

So I have an old time Capsule (mini mac in the form). It is almost full. It backs up all three machines. We just be removed and replaced with a new one.

The new machine will have to be added, but the TC is too full.

I'm happy to delete the backups from the machine, it has replaced, however the machine is no longer on the network and does not remove its own backups.

I can't delete the full backup set and leave all three machines.

How can I delete just the backups of the machine which is now out of the network? SSH? tmutil on one of the machines still present?

You can access a backup from another machine and work with it. The answer is here: visit Time Machine FAQ of Pondini helps with Time Machine. It is a vast site with almost everything that you need for using Time Machine. You will not find a better resource for Time Machine in one place. Due to the disappearance of James Pondini, the site is is no longer updated. Therefore, some information may be somewhat outdated.

  • New configuration of Time capsule

New time Machine 2 TB, put up with WAG54G2 linksys Cisco Modem, what are the correct setting?

I currently have the time in bridge mode machine, to remove the effects of double NAT. Can I put my modem in Bridge mode and time machine handle everything? If so, how? Step by step instructions would be appreciated as I am a novice touch.

New time Machine 2 TB, put up with WAG54G2 linksys Cisco Modem, what are the correct setting?

Mode bridge on the Time Capsule is the correct setting to use with the Linksys WAG54G2 you have from the Linksys device is not only a modem, but a complete network and router.

Can I put my modem in bridge mode

It would be a matter of your Internet Service provider... is they indicated the Linksys device you... or for the support of Linksys people.

The manual for the WAG54G2 I downloaded did not indicate all the options for "modem only" mode, or bridge, even in advanced settings is possible and probable that the WAG54G2 do not have this type of capability.

If you find your ISP or Linksys support, there is a menu 'hidden' for other advanced options on the WAG54G2 allowing the device to set up as only a simple bridge mode modem, the next question to ask would be if your ISP requires PPPoE or PPPoA authentication.

The time Capsule will support PPPoE... but not PPPoA... then you would have a very clear understanding of the requirements of service from your ISP in this regard.

It's a simple matter of reconfiguring the time Capsule to act as the router of the network if it turns out that the WAG54G2 can be configured as a simple modem... and our ISP requires PPPoE authentication for their service.  We will cross that bridge when and if we get to it.

  • New connection airport Time Capsule with others

Quick question I have a new airport Time Capsule. I'm trying to connect my 2 extremes of 2 airport with the new unit. They are in 2 different places in the House, I see them in my utility, but they're more connected... Lost... Help?

Are you using ethernet to connect or wireless extend?

When you installed the TC you replace an existing router that used EI or did you do a clean install?

If you want to extend wireless simply reset the two AE at the factory and start on with installation... they should auto select this option to expand the TC in wireless... but you must start with them the two reset otherwise it will mess up the network.

  • New backup on Time Capsule

My Time Capsule was fortunately automatically back up since September 2013 using Time Machine and is full by far. However, Time Machine this week said that a new backup should be created. I created this, and after about 24 hours, the new backup is complete. Time Machine now says that the oldest backup is the one that has just finished. This isn't a problem and everything seems to be in order, but I was wondering if this had happened to someone else (and why is it) and there is something to fear?

    Thank you very much.

    Concerning

    Doug

What you describe, it seems that you could see a message that looks like this:

This message appears when your previous backups were corrupted and not enough to use stable. Utility of disc on your Mac has tried to repair the damage, but he couldn't, so the old files must be deleted and started a new backup.

I hope that you will not see this message again, because the same thing will be happening everywhere if it appears.

  • How to set the type of wifi (WPA/WPA2) security settings on my new Apple Time Capsule

I just got my new 3T Apple Time Capsule and have implemented the new network, but I can't seem to find a way to check if the security settings WPA/WPA2 etc are defined.  How do I do that?

By default, the settings are WPA2 Personal. There should be no need to change it.

To view the settings and make changes to them, you need to open the AirPort on your Mac utility.  Are you still using OS X (10.6.3) you specify in your profile?

  • Load new Time Capsule with backup t. m.?

I have an end 2013 27 "iMac running OS X El Capitan, version 10.11.6, with a new 3 TB Time Capsule. In the process of upgrading my original model A1470, 2 TB Time Machine awkwardly, I managed to detach the tablecloth of the end circuit rather than simply ripped hard drive making rubber on the 2 TB hard drive itself. This time Capsule is actually useless now. I installed the original drive work with my TM backups in a USB 3 enclosure with the intention of transferring its contents to my new Time Capsule. When the original Monte drive, it shows as 3 (?) partitions, labeled: APconfig; APswap; and the data. 'Data' has 84,46 GB of data in files "Backups.backupdb" and "ShareRoot. The other partitions are essentially empty-APconfig with a single file "AFP.reconect_keys" to 24 bytes and a total content of 15.6 MB and APswap without files containing 15.3 mb.

How to use this original TC hard disk to load my backups Time Machine on my NEW 3 to Time Capsule? I only discovered how to load a T.C. from file to archive hard disk, but not the original files of TC.

    Any ideas will be appreciated.

What you are, indeed, now doing is to copy/move an existing Time Machine backup 'network', a local disk to another drive (aka, your new Time Capsule) network.

Basically, Time Machine uses a different backup format with readers local vs. network drives. You now have a backup of "network format" on a local disk. Time Machine will not be able to use this backup 'local', as it is, because it is not in a format that is "local." Sorry if that sounds confusing. It was confusing for me just to write it.

A method that would work would be to clone the backup, but it only works when the two backups will be 'local format' ones.

Worst case, I recommend that you come to start a new backup and use the one as archive.

  • Replacement of an old time capsule with a new

I saw a few posts on this subject but they don't help me, but then again I'm not an expert! What I wanted to do, is to set up my new 2 TB Time Capsule (the high) using all the old settings. I'm not talking to duplicate the time capsule data; I'm happy to go back on it. Many people advise new network from scratch, but we have hordes of families who visit most other devices on the network enabled (like nests) who have been extremely painful to put in place and I can't face that again! I searched the internet and came across a great video on YouTube that made simple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VO2tztvb58

It called an option within the airport most convenient to transfer the parameters of one former airport to another. But no matter how many times I try, I get an error message

Apple solution seems to be so simple. I do something wrong, maybe in the login sequence, at some point, the airport ask "which network is the existing time Capsule on?" but provides no pull-down or options to nominate for. Then I went to the network Wifi high to the right of my Mac and selected icon that interests you and that moved on the next screen.

Can anyone offer advice or should I give up and start from scratch?

    Thanks in advance

Connect your computer to the TC using ethernet... you change wireless wireless and guess what... you're sawing off the branch on which you sit.

If your computer does not have ethernet or you have no computer in the House that still has the port most important in the world... so that you never get yourself backed into a corner wireless even once, then buy a bolt of lightning for the ethernet card.

    Alternative method.

This is not 100% kosher, but should work.

On the old TC export the configuration.

My screen is a bit old, but it should always be there.

You must be within the facility of the TC to do... then click the old TC icon and then edit... then export...

On the use of new TC import a Configuration file.

It works for most. FOR THE MOST PART.

As a BTW... your name is terrible.

All new Mac OS since Mavericks use the default SMB protocol.

SMB has much stricter rules that AFP ever made... This is not your fault... This is apple not to repair their airport for the automatic naming utility is not the long names with spaces and characters not compliant... the apostrophe is illegal... you will notice that if you install the disk in the finder, that apostrophe, and spaces are removed from the name... but over the long names will interrupt the.

  • Replacement Time capsule

How can I replace with a new an old Time Capsule and Time Machine backup, then move to the new TC?

The configuration of the airport utility has an option to replace an existing airport.

Plug the new TC on the network... Start airport utility... He will try to extend Ethernet but just select options... and choose "Replace an existing device" instead.

We do NOT recommend copy older backups to the new TC... It's much better to start the new Time Machine backup and after a few months of use and a good amount of history built upward and then erase the old TC.

You can do... Plug the old TC in the news once you have finished replacing and using ethernet on computer... Copy the sparsebundle from one to the other... It is often unusable... so a total waste of time... but it is up to you.

  • How to move a Time Capsule backup to a new hard drive

I've been running Time Capsule on an external FireWire drive Yosemite 10.10.5 running on a MacPro to 2012. It will allow more to perform backups and disk utility fails to remove the disc. When I run the disk repair, either via the recovery disc or a USB flash drive, they are not able to repair the disc and gives me the message: "exit code is 8." The suggestion is to backup the drive and then wipe and restore. I tend to remove the hard drive because it is the second time this has happened; the first time I erased it and started the Time Machine backup everywhere with the same external drive.

However, I am about to upgrade to El Capitan and certainly want the option to return to Yosemite if necessary.

What should I do to transfer the contents of the hard drive damaged to a new drive and always make sure that my computer recognizes it as a backup Time Machine valid? I can clone it right on a new external hard drive?

    Thank you!

Yes, it clones if the drive is still ok.

On a MacPro, you have plenty of space for a real drive... or you can buy a USB key and just to make the clone.

However, my recommendation is to download and run Carbon Copy Cloner. You get free trial use 1 month anyway. Clone startup current Mac to a USB drive or internal hard drive. And make sure it is bootable... that makes it simple to restore a computer to your old operating system running. TM cannot produce a clone bootable... nor can utility that can clone a drive but not to create a boot disk drive.

Just keep the current firewire drive as that is the TM backup... I really doubt that you will get no improvement it cloning.

My computer with two hard drives and 2 starting systems has the car crash in the solid state. When I got the new drive and tried to restore from time capsule, I lost some data. How can I see what backups are on the time capsule? My laptop is also saved to the time capsule. Everything is in 'Data' when I look through the Airport utility. I think that the information that I've lost are still there since I was a Capsule 3 to.

Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

  • Restore from Time capsule, but new files on the target machine, won't be wiped out

I'm trying to move files between two MacBook, however, I have been using the new MacBook for a while (like a year) and a lot of files/images/person of the most recent data on it (dataset B for example).

So I recently did a full backup on my older MacBook (say A Dataset).  I wonder if I do a "restore" time capsule backup (data set A) against my new MacBook, the new dataset would B be destroyed?

My desired outcome is to have the dataset A + B all in my new MacBook.

DataSet B backup, restoration of A DataSet, then restore DataSetB.

Please, do not restore OS X from A DataSet.

  • New mac connects to the time capsule but does not see the old backups

My new MacBook Pro connects perfectly to my Time Capsule, but it is not all backups that are there.  I can't scroll through them as I can with my old MacBook Pro.  The MacBook still connect to Time Capsule well and see and scroll through all the backups it.

    No idea why?

I wish that my new mac to be able to go back through the backups as does my current MacBook.

    Thanks for any help.

Since El Capo OS a lot stricter security.

You will generally not be able to simply use a backup Time old Machine as you did in the past.

Backups made by different computers must be used via migration assistant... not just opened in TM.

However, you can always copy a file or folder, you must manually via the Finder... ride the sparsebundle and access... If you have issues copy folder in the form of TM and then paste it in Finder... There are different ways to trick the it.

  • Extraction of files from a time capsule that contains data of 3 different MacBooks. If I added a new macbook but I wanted only to select files. How can I find these files?

If I have 3 different MacBooks stored on time capsule but I want only to add the files selected to a new macbook how I do it,

find and retrieve files from these devices? How to retrieve the complete set of files for an individual device?

If I wanted to get back anything, what is the process for this?

    Thank you

    Bill

The correct method is to migrate. Use the migration assistant in the Utilities folder.

However migrate doesn't have the fine selection you're after, if you do not want the entire folder like documents.

You could find to manual aperture and copy the sparsebundle to Time Machine works ok... Use just traverse other disks of the main options of TM TM it in the dock.

It might not allow you to recover files but I found that I could copy them into TM and then paste the files by jumping out to finder.

Or you can migrate to another place is to say USB drive plugged into the computer and then retrieve files in a simple copy and paste... Although permissions can be a pain, and you must correct them before you can copy stuff to your own computer files.
