  I am installing a new ATA 2.5 "internal hard drive for my Toshiba M30X-166. The drive is a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 120 GB model. The laptop does not recognize the disc and no related error message appears, and in the BIOS, it shows as "HD not available."

  I put this drive in an external USB - IDE enclosure and was detected by my desktop PC, and I was able to partition and format the Momentus, so I know the drive is indeed work, but my M30X still does not detect the drive.

  What can I do to make the laptop recognize this unit? The BIOS M30X is: Phoenix EAL20 version 1.90.

  Have you tried another HARD drive? The new HARD drive is may not compatible with the laptop or does work does not correctly.

  Normally, a 120 GB HARD drive should work because the laptop has a limitation of LBA 28 bits and so you can only use hard drives 120 GB.

  Well, it seems that after more than a week of messing around with this for, and finally give up and seek help, I could solve a few hours after doing so. After a lot of searching on Google, one of the things I had seen repeatedly was that the drive letters change can solve the problem. When I first had the problem, I did, and it did not fix the problem. However, somewhere between initially and after patching doing so in my original post, as well as several other elements are not, looks like my original problem has been resolved, and that the drive letters change was actually the origin of the residual problem with the same symptoms. The USB key now works in my USB 2.0 ports original or USB 3.0 adapter card TL; DR: changing the drive letter for the drive solved the problem, but only after a myriad of other changes.   BUT Please note: the Bios has a limitation of size of HARD drive support. Not all sizes are supported. I guess that the 120 GB are too big and therefore you can not use it!

  You have any records? or a USB recovery?

  If you cannot install an OS on your SSHD your SSHD can be defective, because it is reading it is cluster/bad sectors. A defective HDD/SSD/SSHD can still be detected (sometimes even when it is defective).

  When you reference the Flash card, I assume you mean the utility toshiba Flash Cards. in this case, I would say that you reinstall (i.e., uninstall and then reinstall) relevant Toshiba Value added Package for your laptop model. to locate the relevant Toshiba VAP, visit your regional toshiba driver. This should solve your problem, such as cards Flash requires the installation of files for your Fn + F keys (for example by pressing Fn + F6/F7 fades and lights up the screen), so I think that Vista is looking for solutions as the Fn keys could be involved.
