New hard drive loses assignment letter

Hello

I just installed a new hard drive on my PC and I had to use disk Assistant a Seagate to format the drive, and whenever I restart my PC, my drive loses the letter assigned to it (d). I go into the computer Manager and re - assign the letter and then my drive appears in Windows Explorer, and the data on it are all there and the drive works fine, but then I restart and the player loses the letter again and re - disappears from Windows Explorer. No error message is displayed.

What can I do to fix this?

Alain

  • Tecra M7 - new hard drive won't let me re-enrolll my fingerprints

    I just got the laptop back to the shop today, where they made all these repairs including replacing my old HDD (80gig) towards a new (160 GB). I'm ecstatic that it is fluid, but as I started to change the user to the old name of the screen, put in my new password for locking up, I went to re-register my finger prints.

    He seemed to be very well at first until I tried to slide my fingers. each finger, he says, you cannot save this finger as it is already registered.

    And I'm sitting there, thinking, how is this possible? It's a brand new hard drive. So I tried to just swipe my finger normally and he says there are no fingers enrolled, you wish to register now? Then. I'm just a little confused...

    Perhaps the old HDD would be copied to the new.
    However, you can try to reinstall the software of fingerprint you can find on the Toshiba site.

  • Windows 7 disc to a newer hard drive cloning lose my activation?

    Hello

    I recently bought a new hard drive to upgrade my drive hard aging / slow / small running windows 7.

    I am considering the current installation using clonezilla newest hard disk cloning.

    After reading the FaQ of Activation of windows 7, it states that I'll lose activation with a change in hardware (motherboard) or if I change the hard disk and memory at the same time. I could be wrong, but I guess that if I just upgrade the HDD, I will be not necessary to reactivate windows 7. No other hardware changes apply except the hard drive.

    The question is, if I clone my partition to install windows on the most recent hard drive with clonezilla, I lose my activation? Are there other methods recommended to do?

    Thank you

    I doubt that you will find it, I don't think that it's been published, and if that were the case, she would probably quickly be taken. I don't think they want to know exactly what triggers it or how much time between activations rings the bells!

    There are many threads here with this info, and it's easy to find elsewhere. So, on pain of having that message changed:

    Every piece of hardware is a point number - if you change too many and exceed a certain amount of points, you will need to reactivate Windows. Don't know the exact number until he'll force the reactivation, but usually replace only part (other then the motherboard) doesn't require reactivation.  Information of product key, in the form of the product ID, is sent with a hash value 'material' (a non-unique number generated hardware configuration of the PC) to the Microsoft activation system during activation.

    Windows product activation checks eight different categories of equipment:

    * Processor & serial number
    * IDE adapter
    * VSN and hard drive
    * Amount of RAM range
    * Graphics card
    * Optical drive
    * SCSI adapter
    * Network adapter

    This is related to the issue:

    Product activation prevents users to change or upgrade their hardware.
    Not true at all. Users can change or upgrade their hardware. One of the forms of piracy which warns against product Activation is hard disk imaging. Not all forms of hard disk imaging are illegal. Where a pirate copy data from one PC hard drive to another to illegally run the software on two computers, Product Activation, which stops by forcing the copied software is reactivated. It does so by comparing the hardware on which it has been enabled for the hardware on which it is now initializing. If the material is significantly different, then reactivation is required. If it's the same, or similar, then the software will continue to work. Those who their PC hardware upgrade substantially may be asked to reactivate. For this reason is easy and can be completed by contacting Microsoft to obtain another confirmation ID.

    -I got my product key Windows 7 enabled on my computer, then my hard drive crashed, so I had to reinstall Windows on a new hard drive.  He is now not letting me turn it back on.  What should I do?  I don't want my computer or Microsoft thinks I use a version of Windows

    It is Windows 7 Home Premium, and I my here in front of me activation code.  But it is to say that it is not valid.

    Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

    When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

    Scroll down to the Windows Activation

    Click the link x days before activation.

    Select the Activation of the phone

    Click Next when you enter your key page

    Click next to complete the activation.

    However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

    15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

    So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

    I recently had a new hard drive installed in my 2008 iMac desktop computer, because right now I can't afford a new computer.   I am now under OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 and my password no longer works so that I can reinstall office microsoft for Mac.  I'm trying to change my password, but you must enter the old password and it does not recognize the password.  I tried every password I use and nothing works.  How can I change or get a new password?

    Reset the password.

  • Initialize a new hard drive

    After a new WD 1.5TB drive has been installed as a slave, went to the management of records and initialized it. The reader is displayed and whether it's online, but no drive letter is assigned. Also there are no options for formatting by using the drop down menus. If I right click on it, the format option is gray. Where should I go here in order to format this drive, since it is supposedly now initialized?

    Have you installed drivers (and firmware, if appropriate) for the new hard drive?  Go to start / Control Panel / Device Manager and check to see if you can see the new drive.  Double-click the drive for more information.  Make sure that said tjos devoce os works correctly on the general tab (the first to appear) and confirm that the device drivers are installed and have no conflict.

    Go to start / Control Panel / administrative tools / computer management / management of records and right click on the new drive.  Click Partition Active (which is hopefully not grayed out).  As soon as she is Active I think the Format and options to change the drive letter or path must turns off (a-grey).  Otherwise, reboot and go back and see if they are now available.  Then you can format the drive (I recommend NTFS) and then you can assign any available drive letter.  When you go to Windows Explorer, you should see a newly available player.

    I hope this helps.  Please feel free to post back is that you have other issues.

  • Portege R500-11Z: recovery disk to help prepare a new HARD drive

    I bought a new hard drive (SSD) for my R500-11Z and I put in an envelope with the USB cable before installation - I want to be able to format the drive and create a new copy of Windows XP before you get out of my existing hard drive.

    I'm looking for ways to use the recovery disk and it SEEMS that it should be possible... EXCEPT...

    I discovered that on the recovery disk there is an executable called recoUNPACK in the Tools folder, which should, in theory, restore the contents of the disc to the hard drive. However, because the new hard drive is plugged into my existing XP set up, he gets a folder called System Volume Information written in it. The presence of this file causes the recoUNPACK to fail. He gets, at 59%, every time, and then survey the error - System Volume Information already exists.

    Any person proposing the deletion of the folder should consider their knowledge of the XP - there is no way to do this, ask Mr. Google if you don't believe me. I also tried this with full of this folder write permissions so that, in theory, could replace recoUNPACK...

    I would be very grateful if someone knows a way of "forcing" crush the System Volume information folder or another way to 'restore' the recovery of my new hard drive disk (other that disassemble the laptop and substitute physically the disc!).

    I have reviewed various options for establishing a USB bootable drive, but as I will adapt it in my laptop I don't want running all versions of XP - so using the recovery disc supplied with my odd R500. All bootable USB I can find only programs, fat32 format, and I would stay in NTFS...

    And the reason why I want to do it this way, it is that I want to continue to use my existing hard drive until the news is ready - its supposed to be an effective way to work... but so far the time wasted, trying to restore the disks could have been better spent undoing the screws on the rear of the machine!

    Thanks in advance

    > However, because the new hard drive is plugged into my existing XP set up, he gets a folder called System Volume Information written in it. The presence of this file causes the recoUNPACK to fail. He gets, at 59%, every time and then lift the error - System Volume Information already exists

    Hmm the right path and the letter of the partition or volume entitled did you use?

    As far as I know that the command should show something like this:

    + recounpack.exe d:\imagename.tpa z: f +.

    (z: is the letter of your external USB drive and may be different in your case)

    Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

    I understand that you can not restore your PC by using the restore disks.

    It seems that you did not follow the process of creating media recovery or data backup process.

    If you are unable to restore the image by using the discs.

    Please use this link to find out how to create a recovery media: http://hp.care/2byIEKi
