new tab

Whenever I click on the "Open a new tab" button (+), the address bar a, "chrome://quick_start/content/index.html". It used to be "subject: newtab". How can I change that? I think my sister could have accidentally installed something that I don't know and everytime I open a new tab, it goes to iStartsurf or something but then I disabled that in my modules.

Type in about: config in the address bar
Search for browser.newtab.url
and place it in about: newtab

The pref browser.newtab.url is no longer supported in Firefox (41 +), so it is no longer possible to put the new tab through this preference page.

You can watch this extension to set the new tab page:

You can set the new tab URL via Options/preferences of the extension on the subject: addons page.

You can watch this extension if you use the home page as the new tab page.

Restorer of classic theme includes this feature as well.
In current versions of CTR (1.3.9+), you will find "the Url of the page new tab ' in the section tabs (1).

You can use pages like these:

    • the new default tab with the tiles page is on: newtab
    • the default homepage is Subject: Home
    • for a blank use Subject: vacuum
    • for a Super Start use topic: superstart
    • Use the URL of a web page

See the topic: on page for available on the pages.

  • The upgrade to 43.0.1 broken new tab override ext. It will be corrected?

I want my new tab to open the page (site) I want. Not a page of icons. First of all, we have lost the ability to use 'talk, com' to do this. Now 43.0.1 broke the extension "ignore new tab."

I see I'm not the only one who wants that. Please correct.

Hello BillCusitar, update the new tab override (browser.newtab.url replacement) to the new version 2.2 , before two hours the developer released the new version and're back you OK.

    Thank you

  • new tab extension

Update 43.1 seems to disable the new tab extension (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1088694) recommended Mozilla users install after the 41 update broken our topic: config new settings tab. Seriously, what is so hard to understand about the users want to be able to control which page a new tab opens. I don't want no suggested or more frequently visited pages pages or bookmarks, I don't want a blank page. I want the page I want and a framework to combat it.

  • set the new tab to open AGAIN homeVersion 43.0.1 breaks new tab homepage

I don't know why the development team is so God awful ready on forcing me to use this terrible miniature of the previous pages as the new screen of the tab, but it SUCKS. I use FF because I don't want to be forced to use my browser as I want it to work. Correct this flaw and I would like to give the new tab homepage. 43.0.1 broke the new tab override add on which historically corrected this weakness / FF stock.

Can I assume that your real problem is that the extension new tab replace does not work in Firefox 43?
based on your similar thread in September - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1084993#answer-784907

The developer of this add-on is aware that it is broken - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/reviews/769315/ - and says he'll fix it.

"The nature of the lack of the new tab should be without a doubt, opening to what the user has defined for its home page".

You are entitled to your opinion on that, but Mozilla feels differently about what the default should be for the new tab.

My opinion [that does not count be] is that it would be ridiculous to have all of the users 'Homepage' to be the default value for the page tab. How would this work when a user like me has two home pages? Two new tabs open all the time? Or complicate the issue and only open the first home page for the new tab instead?

I spent a lot of time trying to solve this problem and about to give up and to switch browsers. I bet that Chrome will allow me to use Google.

Generally, changes in parameters are retained between reboots. If you change other preferences such as your home page, Firefox manages to retain those between reboots?

We have an article of general support on issues that may lead to changes to get lost between sessions: How to fix preferences that will not save.

    Two other thoughts:

    (1) some software utility/security/life private changes the folder of Firefox settings between sessions. This includes Advanced SystemCare and various programs 'homepage protection' or "browsing protection" feature. If you have any software with a similar feature, disable it until everything is set as you want and stable.

    (2) you might check all the extensions that could possibly change the settings when you start Firefox. You can do this on the page modules. Either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, take a critical look on the list on the right side. On a new installation, it is usually empty, unless Firefox has detected the extensions that already exist on your system. Something unexpected?

For links in pages, or bookmarks, in addition to the context menu, you can use these methods to open a link in a new tab:

    • CTRL + click (hold down the CTRL key and click on the link)
    • Middle-click (use the scroll of your mouse wheel click the link)

If you type a URL in the address bar and you want to open in a new tab, you can:

    • Hold down the ALT key and press enter
    • CTRL + click the 'go' at the end of the address bar

There are a few modules focus on the tab with a superb range of features, which can be always open in a new tab. I haven't checked this myself, but these are very popular and could be a good place to start your search:

Changing the value of the string that I mentioned in my previous post, will change the page that appears in your new tab. The default value is about:newtab , but it can be changed to anything you want.

To change the page to the new tab, follow these steps:

    1. Type of about:config in the location bar of Firefox and press enter
    2. Click accept in the page to enter configurations
    3. Locate the [email protected] string or search for it in the search bar on this page
    4. Double-click the string to change the value
    5. Enter the URL of the Web site that you want to use as a new tab in the dialog box that appears
    6. Press the ok button

This should change the new tab page that appears when you open a new tab. If the changes do not affect, try restarting Firefox and then check again.

If you want to use one of the pages by default Firefox as a new tab instead of a Web page, you can use about:newtab or about:home as the URL for the new tab.

I hope this has clarified the steps for you. If you need additional information, please let us know.

  • How to make a 'new tab' use my home page?

I tried everything I could think of, but a 'new tab' will not open my home page. I tried the 7% C and she deleted my entry on my home page. I took me a long time to find the 'options' on the 'New tab' page, they belong to the regular options not on a separate page. Is there a way I can load my own homepage and only my own homepage when I start, load n another of my own home page when I select 'New tab' as it was in older browsers?

If you want the same page to your home page and the new tab page, this extension is the easiest way to do this:

I don't know what you mean by that:

Firefox uses a vertical bar ("|") in order to separate several home pages.
You can check the setting of the home page to see if the subject: preferences page is included among the home pages (| subject: preferences #general).

This can happen if you click on "use current page (s) ' to set the home page and about: preferences is open in a tab.
You can pin the tab with the subject: the preferences page to avoid including: preferences for layout home page if you want to use this button.
To set a page as the home page, you can drag the globe/lock for the home button.
