No. 5.1 Surround Sound on HDMI in Windows 7 only 2 stereo channels

I just built a new HTPC runnung Windows 7 64 bit. I used the new M4A88TI ASUS - I Deluxe - M.B. (which has the Ati Radeon HD 4250) and can't get more than 2 channel stereo output in the configuration of the speakers. I have built several HTPC machines in the past but have always used the maps in series 200 from NVIDIA (GeForce 210 and GT 220 and GT 240) which are all sub $100 video cards. I NEVER had any of these audio configuration issues multichannel with HDMI on NVIDIA cards... they are "no brainers" for the installer, only with Ati, these problems exist! Someone please figure out this problem! All the drivers are the latest Catalyst 10.7 drivers and Realtek HDMI R2.49

Thank you!

* UPDATE *.

Well, it seems that this hardware (AMD 880 G with Radeon HD 4250 integrated graphics card) is not capable of supporting more than 2 stereo channels on the HDMI audio output. I tried EVERYTHING (including beat my head against the wall) for 3 days now & I am still not over 2 speaker output. The main reason why I bought this M.B. was so I could use it for a HTPC without having to install a separate video card. It was announced as being capable of 1080 p and up to 7.1 audio channels over HDMI, but it's not just happening. If I go into the configuration of the speakers for the main audio Realtek integrated system all the different options are available for 2-speaker stereo, quadraphonic, Surround 5.1 & 7.1 Surround, but the HDMI interface configuration only 2 stereo audio speaker is available NOTHING else! I understand that it is the material that determines what are the audio options are available in the configuration of the speakers, then maybe HDMI on this M.B. only supports 2-channel stereo? Very sad as this White House is especially designed for home theater use. I can put in an NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 & everything goes well all the way up to 7.1 surround channels, so I guess I'll be staying in the future with NVIDIA & NOT to waste more time or $$$ with Ati.Wrench

  • Satellite A200 - 1JS PSAE6: only stereo sound using HDMI - why?

    Hello

I have an A200-1JS (PSAE6) with a HDMI and HD DVD player.
I connect my A200 to a LCD screen with an HDMI cable and its ok. Good picture and sound.

BUT, when I want to see a movie (without using the HD DVD player) with a surround sound (5.1) the only thing that I get stereo sound coming out of the HDMI.
I went to the control panel realtek option and in the HDMI output and I can only choose stereo.

So my question is: its possible to get more audio channels (5.1) of the HDMI cable and if so, what should I do to play a movie with surround sound via HDMI?

    Best regards

    Pedro

    Hello

As far as I know is not possible. HDMI cable offers transfer better video/audio signals to your TV and you can watch movies in best quality.

For sound 5.1, you need port optical audio output, and according to the specifications of the laptop, this port is not available.

  • Can't get surround sound in Media Center

I have a computer set up in my living room which is mainly used for watching TV in Windows Media Center on Windows x 64 8. I've noticed for a while that it seemed that sound surround did not work and I was only get stereo sound of the by the front speakers. I run sound via HDMI to my computer in my surround receiver. The output is a motherboard Intel DH77EB using graphics Intel HD 4000.

When I go into the Windows taskbar and open the playback devices, I configured the audio HDMI 5.1 surround and the sound is output to all speakers. Before, when I would try to run the speaker via Media Center Setup, it would skip the screen where you can play a sound test and go directly to the screen resolution of the problems, as if I chose that I could not hear sound from all speakers. After crossing the speaker setup of the Windows again last night, I could finally access the test page for the configuration of your speakers in Media Center. This time, the small circle 'busy' just spun for a while, and then he asked if I heard the sound of all speakers. He never played any sound. I thought he would return to the previous settings, but when I tried to play TV, he played with no audio and then pops up an error on the codecs are not properly installed.

The only way I could get Media Center to start playing live and recorded TV is again to return the Windows sound properties and reconfigure my HDMI out be only stereo. I have temporarily lost my digital optical audio cables, but I will try those next. I hope that this will work because it will rely on different audio drivers for my computer (Realtek). I didn't have to run an extra audio cable when HDMI should work for all.

The additional troubleshooting steps I took were completely uninstall and reinstall all the graphics and audio drivers with more later from the Intel Web site. I would try a refresh of Windows installation because I think that it worked when my computer is first set up (before some problems with my SSD). The only problem with that is that I have many records of CableCard that I would lose to join because of copy protection.

So there is a work around for this problem, which is still not great, but will fix the problem to some extent (not require to keep switching the mode stereo surround for different applications). If you have your default playback device (mine is a Nvidia video card using the HDMI output) output configured for 5.1 surround sound it is a way that you can get Media Center working properly. If you start Windows Media Center by double clicking on a video recorded (record TV) in the recorded TV file default value it will launch Windows Media Center for the video and start playing without the two second loop audio and immanent freeze and screen "video playback error". Then, you can navigate to Live TV and it will continue to function properly. This seems to be the only medium that you can leave your speakers configured to 5.1 surround output and still use Media Center.

  • Just not upgraded for Windows 10, 7.1 Surround Sound no more functions

I use a Logitech G633 helmet, which is compatible with a 7.1 surround sound. Before moving to Windows 10, one worked perfectly well with Skype and my sound quality surround sound was crystal clear. After the upgrade to Windows 10, Skype does not use surround sound and instead, I'm treated with bad stereo audio.

Everything else on my computer always uses one surround sound, except Skype. This problem is only with Skype.

I tried to reinstall the Skype and Logitech software, with no result. I am at a loss for what to do and if I can't find a solution I'll down(up?) level to Windows 7.

I already tried to install a version of LGS that dates back all the way to March 2015, and it did not fix the problem. I was already using the latest software version when I was running Windows 7 and Skype worked fine with one surround sound with Win7.

  • QOSMIO G30 - no sound on HDMI when connected to HDTV in XP MCE.

    Hello-

Can anyone help with a frustrating problem... How output sound on HDMI in Windows XP MCE?

I place the video on HDMI output using * Fn + F5 *-I get a perfect image on my HD TV. However, the sound always comes from my laptop speakers.
I have all the latest drivers and BIOS downloaded from the Toshiba site.
I entered the settings audio and Sigmatel and tried everything, in particular by unchecking + 'Activate Dolby Digital Live Support' + within the Dolby tab which is recommended in a support forum.
    Nothing works!

It's relatively easy in Windows Vista, because you can change the audio device by default for + the device of digital output (S/PDIF) + and which switches to HDMI audio, but there is no option under XP MCE.

Someone who can help to solve this problem is rewarded with all the points and have total gratitude and respect :-)

    Thank you

    It is a Toshiba FAQ:

But he of described the problem with Vista OS.

However, the screenshot shows the codec high definition audio Sigmatel.
I guess it is the same device that you can see in the menu drop-down

Maybe you have to activate it.

  • No. 5.1 surround sound HDMI

Problem - I don't get that ' "two-channel stereo sound during playback of a DVD (with Dolby) on my computer.  The computer is connected to an audio receiver that is set up for a surround sound.  Audio and video signals are transmitted from the PC via the HDMI 8.Lorsque on the video/tuner card.

    Computer - Compaq SR7510F

Vidéo/Tuner - ATI All in Wonder HD

Connected to Onkyo TX-SR604 through a video/Tuner card HDMI cable.  The Onkyo receiver is connected for 5.1 surround sound speakers.  Video signals are transmitted via the receiver to a flat screen monitor

    Sound - onboard Realtek

According to the specifications for the SR5710F it is supposed to support its 6 speakers.  However the HDMI audio driver only allows me to select "stereo".  It is a select "surround" box, but the box is "grayed out".

When I play the same DVD using a stand-alone DVD by Phillips drive, connected to the Onkyo receiver with the same HDMI cable, I get Dolby on the receiver.  This means that it is not a problem with the receiver, it must have something to do with 1) onboard Realtek sound driver 2) HDMI, or 3) the HDMI connection on the video/tuner card.

I checked on the Web from Realtek site and they list a newer driver for Vista (32 bit), but when I use the Device Manager to update the driver, it is said that it is the most recent.  I don't know that the driver is the problem, so I'm hesitant to try for the heck of it.

I tried the latest drivers Catalyst 9.1 for ATI All in Wonder card, but that didn't help either.

    Any idea?

    Telefunken,

Thanks for the suggestion.  It worked!  There is absolutely no sense to me, nor it does not seem logical to select SPDIF, but I can't argue with success.

I didn't need to buy Arcsoft Media Theater.  I was able to select SPDIF with ATI Catalyst and Microsofts Media Center.  I could get Dolby

In my current setup, I updated ATI Catalyst 9.3 version graphics card and loaded the audio driver Realtek HDMI ATI R2.18.  Also in the BIOS, I put the Audio on 'Auto '.  I chose the HDMI, not the Realtek driver driver in Control Panel.  I chose Dolby and DTS bothy under the driver settings.

Now I think I'll enjoy a Quantum of Solace from this nagging problem is resolved.

  • 4th generation Apple tv remote keeps switching HDMI 2 if I have my surround sound Samsung anynet on which uses when the samsung TV is turned on. Currently I have away the skin until I found what I want to watch.

Current configuration is a Samsung TV with a Samsung blu - ray surround sound.  When both are on they use anynet to communicate. Now with the new apple TV 4, any click on the apple TV remote will send my TV HDMI 2 (where the entourage of blu - ray is connected). How can I stop this? The apple TV is HDMI 3. The dressing must be on HDMI 2 which is also ARC (Audio return channel)

Try to go in the settings of TV4 of Apple and the deactivation of the ability to control your receiver and your TV. This should disable HDMI CEC which resembles its conflict with Anynet.

  • Option of surround sound clothes outside with HD4870 HDMI connection after installation of SP1 Vista54

Clothes outside with HD4870 and HDMI connection surround sound option
I just built an HTPC and installed SP1 Vista64 and I have a problem. I have a DFI LanParty very X 58-T3H6 motherboard and a VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 video card with HD audio. I have a HDMI cable to my Sony AV receiver and all I get is Audio stereo. The subwoofer never wakes from sleep, or AV receiver indicates anything but a stereo input.

I have the RealTek HDMI audio device installed, and he says he's working properly in Device Manager. Under properties, what is proposed is stereo speakers. Surround sound is presented as an option, but it is grayed out and not selectable. All drivers are up to date from four days and I have the on-board sound card mother disabled in the BIOS and it does not appear in the Windows Device Manager, nor are there any other audio device except the RealTek HD HDMI audio device.

Other HDMI devices, such as my XBOX 360, a surround sound very well via the AV Sony receiver.

VisionTek support told me to install the RealTek HDMI driver, I did, but that's all the help they were able to give me.  The problem persists.  Surround sound is gray under sound properties for this device,

I took the HDMI cable from HDMI port on the video card and plugged on my XBOX 360 and I get surround sound, so I know that the cable and the audio/video receiver is configured correctly.

If anyone has an extra idea about it, I know you more!

    Hello

I was wondering if anyone of you guys/girls know how to set up surround sound 5.1 to 3.5 mm jack? I have a HP Pavilion n267ea 15 notebook with 10 64-bit Windows installed currently. My HARD drive failed last year so I had to install a new copy of windows (without the HP software) because I never made a backup.

If there is a way, I would be grateful if you could let me know in a few steps. I have a surround system hooked up with an input audio jack of 3.5 mm. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello @Androider86,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! The Forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your problems, with the help of the community!

I read your post about the noise and wanted to help you!

From my understanding, to reach 5.1 output, you need the outputs 3 analog stereo, or you will have to do it via HDMI.  I hope this helps.

  • a6233. SC - HD surround sound?

Hi, I bought the a6233.sc about 7 years ago and did not have a reason to replace it since then. I added more RAM and a bunch of external hard drives.

Now, I'm looking for buy a new receiver surround sound capable of HDMI and HD audio and my PC has become the center of the media associated with over the years, I want to make sure that most of the things she would always keep upward. This read on sites Web HP/realtek/Nvidia I initially thought that it would be no problem: sound card is ALC888S and although there no passage in the functions of HD formats, there no record of 192 kHz/24-bit and I have a software that decodes the LPCM sound. But now I just read an article that made me doubt if the sound card is integrated into the exit HDMI of Nvidia 8600 GT.

Another question, is my PC has more muscle to handle a Blu - Ray player?

Any help would be much appreciated I could prioritize significantly differently if things are not as I hope.

    Peter

I understand that you want to know about the sound card and how it works with the 8600 GT video card HDMI output.

I am not entirely sure about the line of products from Nvidia, but that's how it works on AMD cards.  The video card has a dedicated sound chip for HDMI audio output, which is separated from the dedicated sound system map.  It has its own drivers and resources in Windows.  It is also separately listed in Device Manager in the sound category.  I think it would be the same for Nvidia products.

Do a ctrl + f search on this FAQ blu indicates the card 8600 is capable of playing blu - ray.  According to the specifications, the system came with 32 bit Windows Vista that would make the RAM max allowed 4 GB (3, 2-3, 5 GB usable).  If there is a large RAM available, it would seem that this would be sufficient.  The system came with a 2.4 GHz quad core processor which should be wide enough for blu - ray playback.  However, none of this is a guarantee.  Each blu - ray player comes with different reading software.  I recommend to look at the system requirements of the software (which should be listed) and compare that to what your system has.  As long as you are within the reading software, it should be fine.

  • No surround sound on Apple TV 4 gen?

I recently upgraded to Apple TV fourth generation and lost my sound surround.

My old Apple TV (3rd generation) has been connected via optical toslink to my receiver Onkyo and everything worked well. A 5.1 surround sound.

Now, I have installed the new Apple TV 4, who unfortunately doesn't support optical output. Instead I connected the th output to my Onkyo HDMI receiver. Whenever I get sound, but only 3.1 (front left, right and Center) but no sound on my surround sound speakers. If I unplug the Apple TV and plug in my DVD player the same HDMI input on the receiver I hear great 5.1 surround. If Im guessing all the settings of the receiver is very well. It's just the apple TV that does not work.

Why is this? Apple TV supports 5.1 sound more? Is this a known problem and how can it be solved.

Try adjusting the audio settings Dolby on the ATV4.  Given that my receiver has no HDMI inputs, I went with an optical splitter HDMI and have 5.1.

  • HP pavilion dv6 3131tx no sound via hdmi

I met an audio problem that only started since this morning, but is very frustrating, I have my hp pavilion dv6 3131tx windows 7 Home premium, connected to my TV via hdmi, it worked perfectly until this morning where the audio stopped working through the TV, hdmi output disappeared in the sounds menu, I tried the following :

reinstall and update the drivers audio, update display drivers and chipset drivers, try the different hdmi ports and cables (to make sure it wasn't a bad cable) as well several solutions in the forums, my problem is that the hdmi output does not appear in the menu sounds and cannot be selected as default device How can I get that back?

Problem solved, high definition driver Amd was automatically disabled somehow he was reactivated by going to the Device Manager and the bottom right click on amd/driver high definition codec and pressing enable (note that there are 2 of them, a permit and a disabled person) also allow many of them and YAY dolby digital surround sound works again! After 2 days of hard to find an answer I did it myself >. >, but still having a problem where my ATI / AMD drivers will not be updated due to a conflict between the hp hardware and the ATI Radeon Hd 5650-. -.

  • Not Surround sound more on Blu - ray player after upgrade by MediaSmart

When I used the Blu - ray player in my home theater, I selected the mode "HDMI pass" to get a sound surround. I came across a few new films that would not play and after the update from HP, the player would simply freeze as soon as there is audio present. I had to go to the Task Manager to close it.

MediaSmart works fine on the laptop, but it only freezes when I use the parameter "pass through HDMI.

I tried mode "HDMI pcm" and who does not work either. This Denon receiver there are five channels work but I get stereo sound on front speakers left and right. This seems to indicate that the Blu - ray player is not released in 5.1 surround sound and the laptop and the Denon receiver works fine.

Supports the HP solution was to reinstall the older driver or try a system restore. I know that a system restore won't do anything. The problem is in the new software. The new software does not work on my HDX18 when he was under Vista, it did not work when I upgraded to Windows 7 and it does not work on my new dv8.

I tried to contact CyberLink to let them know that the upgrade is giving problems, but I think they ignore me.

Personally, I think that HP or Cyberlink just forgot to add the drivers for a 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound.

If anyone find a solution to this one that I wouldn't be surprised. I'm quite sure I've covered all the possibilities, but you never know.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

HP had me download a software called K-Lite which is a software codec repairs and replacement. After the upgrade of the software more returned to get my blu - ray movies to work, I ran K-Lite and that did the trick.

    http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

I used the mega version, but you can probably use the standard.

It is a software complex with many choices and I changed it to accept a sound audio surround and DTS 7.1. There were several boxes prompting me to remove the broken codec which continued for some time and when it was all thanks to I was surprised that it worked.

Meanwhile CyberLink itself actually got back to me and I was given some temporary free software provide I run their diagnostic tool for them on my dv8 for helping them understand my problem. It is still pending.
