No network adapter is displayed in the network and sharing Center

My internet connection works very well through a router, but if I go to the network and sharing Center and click on change adapter settings, I get a blank page.
The adapter appears in Device Manager and it is used by the computer as disabling it kills the internet connection.
I think that's the reason that I have a network with a red X icon. The ToolTip that appears when the mouse passes over the icon said access to the Internet.
What would cause the network to do not "see" the adapter, even if it's to use?
The adapter is a Netgear GA311 gigabit and compatibile with Windows 7.

Have you installed the drivers of www.netgear.com?

  • Windows Vista connected online but not shown on network and sharing Center or on the taskbar, leads to other problems

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 running on Windows Vista, my router modem is a Motorola SURFboard SBG901. A few months ago on this computer, I couldn't see that I was connected online either from right down icon in my taskbar (it shows just two monitors with an 'x', that when you highlight on he says "not connected, you are currently not connected to any network.")  I don't see it on my network and sharing Center which States: "not connected wireless connections are available." In terms of network it shows that my PC and then the line that has an x on him. If you click the x, or select diagnose and repair, he informs me that all is going well with my computer. If I go to connect to a wireless network, it shows that I'm connected to my network ready. I open one of my browsers and they all work very well, I can access any site without problem. I was not embarrassed with him at the time, but since then I moved into a new House and have a new service and everything, with this motorola modem cable. my new wireless network is a network unsecured, which of course, I want to fix it. I can connect to this network, but I can't access it through Windows properties to make sure. I read the manual of the modem, telling me to connect through an ethernet connection and access configuration manager using the ip address of my router on a browser, but which does not charge or the other. I have other devices (Ipod Touch and PS3) wireless I got other people come computers and they all detect the network but cannot connect to it. Thanks for any help.

    Hello

I would like to ask you a few more things.
    1. how many network connections you have created?
    2. are there multiple NICs installed on the computer?

Since this is a common problem and many users have solved this problem by using different methods.

This can also occur if you frequently use several type of internet connections such as dial-up, Ethernet and LAN.

As the article below also indicates that there could be multiple reasons for the same.
The network adapter icon incorrectly displays a red "X" in the window management in Windows Vista network connections when the network adapter is connected
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/945925

    Method 1.
I ask you to remove any network connection if you have created and then check.

    Method 2.
For control please check in mode safe mode with Networking if the problem exists.
    Here's how:
    a. restart your computer.
    b. when the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap the F8 on your keyboard key repeatedly until you are presented with the screen Windows 7 Advanced Startup Options.
    c. using the arrow keys, select the desired option of Mode without failure.
    d. press the Enter key on your keyboard to boot mode safe mode of Windows 7 with networking.
    e. when Windows starts, use check and Internet explore if the problem persists.

  • How can I connect to the internet? Problems involving the network and sharing Center does not.

    Hello.
I live in a House and bought a range extender so that I can get a connection in my basement as well.  I have installation range Extenders without problem.  When you install the range extender, I changed my name to my network router.  I changed the name of the network by typing 192.168.1.1 in my browser.
The MacBook connects without a problem.  In the basement, the connection of Windows 7 works very well.  I have just connected Vaio Windows 7 my mother to the network, but it prompted that I enter the user credentials.  I read a post above and got that problem solved by opening the network and sharing Center and adding a new connection.  Now that the connection is configured correctly.
The problem is with the laptop HP Windows Vista family basis.  Since I install the range extender, I can't connect to the network.  He had no problems before you connect the router or other networks to visit other places.  The new network name appears, but when I click it, it says I have to enter the user credentials.  I tried to manually, but the name is taken so I can't make a new and invites me to connect to the network that is established or to connect to a different network.
    • I tried to open the network and sharing Center, but it does not open.  When I click it, it opens a screen for a brief second.  The option "Display the status of network and tasks" opens either.
    • I logged as an Administration by entering the command line < net="" user="" administrator="" ctive:yes=""> > and restarted the laptop.  Even logged in as administrator, this folder does not open.
    • I also did a scan < sfc="" cannow=""> >.  The digitized rolled up with an error, but the error has been corrected.
    • I also updated the connection of the range extender.
Why the network and sharing Center will not be open to the top?
How can I configure my router my HP Windows Vista Linksys connection?
Thank you.  Please let me know if you need more information.

    Thanks for your reply.

In a last attempt, my sister has used the ethernet cable to connect directly to our router.  Next time, she turned on her laptop, she managed to connect to our wireless network and she was not invited to enter credentials.
In this case, the manual connection helped solved the problem.
  • Network and sharing Center will not be open in the Panel

I've been away from home - where I HSI and it works very well - for a few months, I plugged to the network sporadically awireless (sometimes just bad signal), with a lot of frustration.  A few days ago, I went to a place where I could connect to a hard (secure) wireless network and enjoyed the smooth navigation for about an hour.  Later when I tried to connect to the smaller network, unsecure, I couldn't open my network and sharing Center. Whether from the drawer or the Control Panel, a screen opens displaying nothing, but the circle of rotation.  The TASK MANAGER IS REQUIRED to CLOSE THE PAGE - it will not answer the close box. TM shows the centre network and sharing as 'running', although there is no indication on the screen, except the title and the circle of rotation.

My laptop is a dv6t Pavilion with Windows 7 (64-bit)

All the other files in the Panel seem to open and operate normally.

    Hello Hamanslayer

Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

I understand the network and sharing Center will not be open. I will do my best to help you! If please launch and center network and sharing, and wait for him so that he can provide an error. In addition, please try to run Centre network and sharing in a different user account. If you don't have one, create one.

I did some research on this issue. Unfortunately, the only reliable troubleshooting that is remaining, if the above does not help, is to reinstall the operating system. Too, there are different issues that could be causing it. Reinstalling the operating system will focus on each of them.

First, please save all the files you need. You can find specific steps on how to proceed in the following HP document: backup of files (Windows 7)

Once this is done, you can safely reinstall the operating system. I'll also give you a document on how to do it: perform a recovery of the system (Windows 7) HP

Please let me know your results. Thanks again for the display on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Windows 7 64 bit... ""? "shows"See the whole map"in the network and sharing Center window"

    Hi guys

I've been struggling with this problem for a few weeks and need help. When I open the control panel; Network and Internet; "Network and sharing Center", at the top of the page to the right, I have an option to view the connections of the network (see map). The opening I find a big blue '? ', with 2 solid lines from my computers to the "?", with the word "Unknown"under the present'?", then 2 solid lines go to the router... It's a wireless network must therefore a double line broken and not solid and obviously not '? I can fix this problem by changing the Properties tab 'Advanced' from the WiFi transceiver on each of the computers. Once I click OK, the computer the fact thing... and the blue "?" disappears and the network is 100% functional. Putting computers into sleep or restart... and I have the '? ' on the respective computer which itself was removed from the network after a reboot. This happens on 4 computers on the network, all the Windows 7 64-bit, 2 notebooks, desktop computer 2!... Still problem, all corrected in the same way. Until the '? ' is corrected I show other computers in our network at the bottom of the window under the label:-"the following peripheral discovered may not be placed in the plan.» Click here, etc. etc. Once all 4 computers are patched, I show a perfectly displayed network... I'm open to any ideas... Thank you

The question mark appears when you return from sleep if interconnect them (Network Interface Controller) is allowed to turn off to save power.

  • Cannot turn off or disable password protected sharing the network and sharing Center

I'm trying to turn some pretty simple sharing of files between our windows PC (two portable minicomputers running under XP, a desk and a laptop running vista). File sharing functions between the XP computers. However, I am simply unable to influence the "password protected sharing setting" in the network and sharing Center. I check the option to turn it off and I get a click through UAC dialog window, the mouse cursor turns for a short time while as if windows is pretending to do something, but the password protected sharing setting is always on.

I tried to disable Avira Antivir.

I enabled the guest account and set its password to a string explicitly empty with net user guest «»

    Nothing helps.

    svampi,
This knowledge base article can be useful for you.  Although the problem that it is designed for the difficulty is not the same as yours, the underlying cause is the same.  There is an article to 'fix', which means that you can click the 'fix' in the article so that it automatically fixed for you online or you can follow the instructions to edit the registry yourself if you feel capable of doing that.  So check that out and see if it helps with your problem:

  • Network and sharing Center shows not connected, but the computer is connected to the wireless network

When I open the network and sharing Center, or hold my mouse pointer on the icon of internet connection in the bottom right of the taskbar, it shows that I'm not connected to a network. However, I know that I'm connected to the internet. My internet and e-mail work correctly. Also, when I click on the 'Connect to a network' option, find the list of available wireless networks, and it shows that I'm connected to my home network. How can I make Windows everywhere where I am connected to the internet, instead of recognizing only on the list of the networks without wire-available?

Had exactly the same problem on Windows 7 (win7). Connected to the Internet but the status showing no connection and a red cross on the network icon. Problem has also caused problems to connect to Lync and Office365 along with VPN, which apparently uses the status to check whether the connection is available.

    Found the solution here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/df17c593-e78f-4878-97b0-7569307934c5

Apparently, certain permissions gets hurt in the database record and must be fixed using RegEdit. The solution is a step by step and likely to be resolved simply by removing a cache of file using RegEdit and potentially affecting certain permissions.

    It will be useful.

  • restore service dependency for the network and sharing Center

How to restore the dependency service or group who couldn't start for network and sharing Center?

    Hi patto1708,

If it was something that was already previously and failed after certain activities on the computer for which you are not aware of, then the best possible thing to do is run a system restore. This will ensure that your computer is back to operational status.

For more information about the system restore, you can see the link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/System-Restore-frequently-asked-questions

Or you may need to check for the dependency of the network and sharing center services and start them manually when they are stopped manually.

  • Unknown error in the network and sharing Center

When I opened my network and sharing Center where the active networks would be just said

    'Unknown '.

    and

"The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process"

If I open Services.msc and check the list of networks and Network Location Awareness service, both are on automatic and both connect as a network Service.

Network list service does not work and does not give the error:

Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process

I'm connected to my home network and have internet access and also a local access to other computers, it's just not appearing is not on the network and sharing Center.

A result of this is that some of the metro apps don't report any internet connection and will not start. I currently now disconnected my microsoft account on the computer and use a local account, but the problem is still there.

    I also tried

    netsh winsock reset

from an administrator command prompt but no change.

    Can anyone help?

    Hi Andrea,

    Please keep us updated.

This can be shown because of missing or corrupted system files. This is why I would recommend running the System File Checker tool, which is a Windows utility that allows users to find corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

To do this, click Start, type command or cmd prompt in the Search box, right click invite, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.

At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow

Note: Do not close the command prompt window until the audit is completed 100%. The results of the analysis will be posted when this process is complete.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.

If this comes back clean then it is related to the material, and because the DMP files mention Genuine Intel I ran the cpu stress test first.

Try this free stress test: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/

    Prime95 Setup program;
-Extract the contents of the zip file into a directory of your choice
    -Double-click on the executable file
    -Select "all stress testing.
-Select the test of 'Blend '.  If you have already run MemTest overnight, you can run the test of "Small FFFS" instead.
"Number of threads of torture test run" must equal the number of processors multiplied by 2 (if you use hyperthreading).
The best way to do this is to go to the Manager of the tasks of the figure... The performance tab - and see the number of boxes that appear under the CPU usage history
Then run the test of 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors [b](whichever comes first)
The selection of Test and the file stress.txt box describes the components that insists on the program.

    Stop 0 x 124 is a hardware error

If you are overclocking try to reset your settings to standard processor and see if that helps.

If you keep getting the BSOD here are things more than you may want.
This is usually hardware related, defective heat, memory or processor even if it is "possible" he is associated (rare) driver.

Stop 0 x 124 - what it means and what to try

    Synopsis:
A "stop 0 x 124" is fundamentally different from many other types of bluescreens because it arises from a complaint of material.
Stop 0 x 124 minidumps contain very little concrete information, and it is therefore necessary to address the problem as a case of material in an unknown state of distress.

    Generic troubleshooting ' Stop 0 x 124 ":

    1) to ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Material which is pushed beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - may malfunction in unpredictable ways.
    (2) ensure that the machine is sufficiently cooled.
If there is doubt, open the side of the case (be aware of all the relevant conditions guaranteed!) PC and direct an electric fan squarely to the motherboard. Who will rule on most cooling problems (lack of).
    3) update all drivers related to materials: video, sound, RAID (if applicable), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware.
It is best to run the latest drivers anyway.
    (4) update the BIOS of your motherboard according to the manufacturer's instructions and clear CMOS.
Their website should provide detailed instructions on the brand and model-specific procedure.
    (5) rarely, bugs in the operating system may cause "false positives" 0 x 124 events where the hardware wasn't complaining, but Windows thought otherwise (because of the bug).

At the time of writing, Windows 7 does not have to suffer from a defect, but it is nevertheless important to keep Windows up-to-date.
    6) trying (stress) test these hardware components that can be put to the test artificially.
The most obvious examples are the RAM and HDD (s).
For the RAM, use the 3 rd-party memtest86 utility to run several hours a test value. (6-8 passes to stress the ram)
For hard drives, verify if CHKDSK /R finds any problems on (s), including "bad sectors".
Unreliable RAM, in particular, is mortal, as well as software, and anything other than a 100% clear memory test result is cause for concern. Unfortunately, even a 100% clear result the diagnostic utilities does not guarantee that the RAM is free of any defect - only that none have been encountered during the test passes.
    7) as the last of the non-invasive troubleshooting steps, perform a "Vanilla" Windows reinstallation: just the OS itself without additional applications, games, utilities, updates, new drivers - or ANYTHING that does not come from the Windows 7 disc.
Who stops working mitigate the problem of the 0 x 124, jump to the next step.
If you run the "Vanilla" installation long enough to convince yourself that not a single 0 x 124 accident occurred, start installing applications and updates slowly, always stopping between successive additions long enough to get an idea of the question if the machine is still free of 0 x 124 breaks down.
Smash back, obviously the latest addition of software may be somehow connected to the root cause.
If the stop error 0 x 124 persist despite the above steps, and the equipment is under warranty, consider to go back and ask for a replacement that does not suffer periodic MCE events.
Be aware that want to perform the subsequent hardware troubleshooting steps can, in some cases, void your warranty:
    (8) clean and carefully remove the dust inside the machine.
Reinstall all memory modules and connectors.
Use a can of compressed air to clean the RAM DIMM supports as much as possible.
    (9) If all else fails, start removing items of hardware one by one in the hope that the culprit is something non-essential that can be eliminated.
Obviously, this type of testing is much easier if you have access to equivalent components in order to perform swaps.

If you are in the situation to have completed all the steps above without a resolution of the symptom, unfortunately the most likely reason is that the error message is literally correct - something is fundamentally wrong with the hardware of the machine.
