  I was wondering if someone could help me. I bought a Toshiba Satellite L30 - 10V recently which came with Vista installed and ran incredibly slow. I installed a version of XP on it.   Unfortunately, older versions of BIOS are not available on the Toshiba support page but the service provider authorized in your country can give you the old version.

  I just reinstalled Windows 7 to my Satellite L30-10 x girlfriends and I can´t get the gpu to work, it seems like a driver problem, but even in the Device Manager I have can´t even the ati graphics card, everything he says is a standard VGA graphic card as if windows can´t find.

  I know that Toshiba do not support windows 7 for this model, but before it worked perfectly.

  Please help me, I Don t know what to do.

  The laptop is really old so I put t think you will find the Win 7 drivers on the Toshiba driver page.
  The GPU seems to be ATi Radeon Xpress 200 (RC410MD)

  It seems that the ATI does not provide Windows 7 for this GPU drivers. But I found a solution:

  1. open Control Panel control-> appearance and personalization-> display-> screen resolution
  2. click on the tab advanced-> tab map-> properties-> tab drivers
  3. click on update driver-> automatically search
  4. Windows 7 will find and install a driver for your ATI xpress 200 mobility
  5 restart the computer when prompted

  As you can read you can install each 2.5 HARD drive with SATA interface. It is no problem and you don't need a certain brand. Just buy this model you prefer ;)

  Windows XP 32-bit is supported for your laptop model and you can find them on the download page of Toshiba.
  WXP 64 bit is not supported and if you need these drivers, you can try to find them on the manufacturers of hardware support page directly.
  Maybe you can find some of them, but, in my opinion, you should install OS supported with all the available drivers, tools and utilities.

  I hope someone can help me on this one. I was wondering what are the possibilities for the upgrade of the disk on a Satellite L30-113. As the largest size of support etc. Or even if it's possible (I don't know much when it comes to upgrading laptops).

  Each laptop BIOS supports a HARD drive size limitation and therefore, you can only use a HARD drive formats supported.

  I used the L30 for a long time and to my knowledge, you could use the 40 GB, 60 GB and 80 GB hard drives for sure. Perhaps that the 100 GB HARD drive might work but I m not 100% sure and can not recommend this size of HARD drive.

  However, these hard drives must be compatible:
  Toshiba 40 GB - MK4032GSX
  60 GB - MK6034GSX
  80GB - MK8032GSX

  To be honest, L30 is portable for small budget and really not created for the game. I'm sure that the graphics card in your laptop is with shared memory and you really can't expect great graphics performance with it.

  I suggest you to upgrade RAM. Using more RAM graphics card will use more RAM for graphics operation. As far as I know that you can upgrade your L30 with 2 GB max.

I have a hinge broken on my laptop and Toshiba have been very useful in helping me find spare parts - via "Topaz". They also have a bargain at only £8.00 + postage for a pair of them. However, when I asked questions on ' how to ride them? the two have become rather "not useful"!

  And I really do not feel like paying PC World £219.00 what they cited to adapt to them!

  I think that the sata driver that you are interested in is "Silicon Image Sil 3112. You can find it with Google and then integrate into Windows XP with nLite.

  I wonder which is the best way to solve - buy a memory upgrade (no idea how to change memory well) or get an external hard drive?

  I agree with Ganz most HARD drive will not improve performance but increase the disk space available HARD, it would be you can store more music and picture on HARD drive ;) files

  Upgrade memory also would not provide a performance gain of course performance could be a little better because most of the things would be handled directly in memory and not in time on the HARD drive, but generally it s not really noticeable.
