  I just finished a full restore my system back to factory settings because I had no noise whatsoever.  After doing this, I had sound for a while, until some update has been installed and now I have not YET healthy.  It's extremely frustrating!  Given that the sound worked until one of the many updates has been installed, this leads me to believe that the update is the cause of the problem.  When I click on the sound tab, it shows that everything is working ok.  I tried everything I can think of to remedy to this problem.  I uninstalled, reinstalled and updated the driver for the sound.  It does not work.  I tried to use the restoration of the system to an earlier time and that doesn't work anymore (because there was not a lot of restore points because I had to complete my system restore.)  I don't know what to do to solve this problem.  I'd do another complete restore of my system, but I'm afraid that the updates will cause the same issue.  I'd appreciate any help!

  If I you would then I would first check the sound settings in the control panel.

  Click sound-> the Read tab.

  In my case the "speakers" are defined by default.
  It would be also a good idea to check the property settings.

  There you should find an audio driver that could be compatible with the Win SP2.

  Download all the drivers for the A80 from the site and install. Everything works except for the audio driver, I have no sound coming from the speakers.

  2. Remove "Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus"
  3. install KB835221
  4. reboot the system
  5 XP automatically detects devices
  6. after that you don't need, but you can install the realtek drivers

  I recently bought a HP dv4-1413tx with vista home premium pre-installed on it. I tried it downgrade to Windows XP SP2. Managed to install XP on it but feels a hell of a time with drivers... Especially the audio. There is absolutely no sound. Not even the beeps.

  I tried to install UAA audio bus driver first and then the driver of HDTV LSI etc. but still no sound. I spent several hours on this subject...

  Peut - some kind soul please direct me on how to go about this case?

  I remember that I was in a similar situation some two years back in an attempt to re - install Windows XP on another laptop from my friend. We install everything except the audio. Finally, the technician at the shop could install for us. Now I'm away from the place... So can not go and find out that the man how it install it. It was also a HP laptop only...

  I would like to add that the mute button stays red and does not respond when you press.

  There is nothing about Audio in Device Manager... Maybe that's the problem.

  Hi my name is ali majaz, I recently did a reset on my phone, because there was a sort of Malware or viruses, which froze my device just after startup, so I did a factory reset with HP Recovery Manager, now the problem is that all things are restored, but even after installing the audio driver, the high defination IDT and Intel(r) Audio display the sound does not work, everything seems perfect, AUDIO troubleshooting gives no error, there is no mistake anywhere, even the speaker in the taskbar icon looks exactly as it should be, but when I play anything, there is no sound, games, but I hear nothing, I tried all the tricks in the book , but nothing works, I chose speakers & headphones that my default device, but nothing works, no sound at all, no system sounds, no sound in youtube, I don't know what to do, I tried to install all updates but nothing works, I doubt there is a sort of breach of registry in my machine , but after resetting it should have disappeared, SO if IT YOU PLEASE help me

  Like Nettie63, after SP2 has been installed, my sound on the left and the utility 'fix it' said everything of fine.  I tried the fix above with the research of STacSV64.exe that by pasting into the search bar.  However, he said that there was no file so I couldn't just double-click on it.

  Right click on the speaker on your taskbar icon > select "playback devices".
  In the empty space, right-click and select both "Show disconnected/Disabled Devices.
  You can see icons for your speakers and headphones now?  You may need to activate these two.
  You can also try the troubleshooter to find connection issues that may exist, the instructions are below:

  Click 'Start' > select 'control panel '.

  Type of troubleshooting in the top-right search field > select "troubleshooting."

  Click "Hardware and sound" > select "play Audio".
