  You are right. FDI #1 error is displayed because the BIOS doesn't recognize the new internal CD/DVD drive because of the wrong master/slave/c-salt settings.
  Usually, these settings are fixed and cannot be changed on the external sides with another position of the rider.

  I am trying to record a stereo sound from an external source on my Satellite Pro 4600.
  I read in the manual of the only way to enter the stereo signal from other sources (e.g., external CD player) is through card Station IV as the laptop itself has only monaural audio input jack.
  Is it possible to record stereo sound from external source without having to invest in the Station IV card?
  Or if not, is there any software that can convert the stereo, mono signal?

  Hi there, a new laptop here. Windows Vista had sound but I installed Windows XP SP without any problem. So, all good, but no sound.

  I installed the drivers from the toshiba site (version 1.69) but no luck. Also tried the drivers Realtek (version 1.81). Nothing. In the device manager is no trace of the Realtek.

  Windows XP is fully updated and I used the newest Intel chipset utility. Also, the bios is upgraded to version 1.09.
