No XP (service pack 3) or run as Administrator program compatibility options.

Another issue is before you install a program that I downloaded, I right click it and go to properties > compatibility and under run this program in compatibility mode for: there is no option for Windows XP service pack 3 or run as Administrator option. It lists only older versions of Windows and Windows NT 4.0 (service pack 5). I doubled checked that my OS is XP (service pack 3) and my account has administrator privileges, so it's really confusing me! Any clarification would be much appreciated!

-Eva :)

Have you tried just downloading, just empty without trying to run it in compatibility mode? I don't think you'll find an xp in the drop-down list entry simply because you run a xp machine and there is no place to enter xp when you try to run a compatible software xp on a xp machine.

I am currently running Windows Vista on my computer. I'm trying to run a program that requires me to run Windows XP (Service Pack 3), but my computer is only show the ability to run Service Pack 2. What can I do?

I pinched this from a blog, it can be useful, he can do it only SP2 but it should be OK: -.

Right-click the application installation or executable file (*.exe) and, on the shortcut menu that appears, select Properties. Choose the Compatibility tab, check the box in the area of compatibility next to "run this program in compatibility mode for" and select the operating system that you use to run the application in.

  • Why I can't download service pack 3 for windos XP, I'm running under the account HP_Administrator supposingly?

I need to go to Service Pack 3 to run a new tax program, but windows update said I'm not Administrator ad.  I should add that I get error # 0x8DDD0002

When you try to down load the service pack from 'Windows Update'.

I need to go to Service Pack 3 to run a new tax program, but windows update said I'm not Administrator ad.

Given that you do not specify this error message you receive, I guess you have found "Service Pack 3 Setup error. Access is denied. "since you mention that you run under the admin account.

Download and install Service Pack 3 from HEREmanually. Save the file to your desktop. Double-click on the file and choose run. Make sure you disable any malware software and anti-virus first.

  • Service packs how do I need?

I have Windows XP and an old Dell tower which was given me already setup. I looked at the list of programs installed and how much Service packs you need? What I keep and what I remove? MSXML 6 (KB973686) MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB973688) MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB954430) then theres Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 SP 2,3.0 SP 2,3.5 SP 1. As do I and what can I delete? It also has Microsoft Works 2001 installation Launcher. There are a lot of programs that I'm not sure. I'm no computer expert, that's why I'm here. Please feel free to stop me from ruining my PC. Thank you. jeannine420carol

    jeannine420carol,
For Windows XP, you must have service pack 3.  If you click Start > right click on my computer > click on properties; that will tell you what service pack you are running.  The .net and MSXML are Windows components that use programs to run.  There are different versions of these components, and some of them have their own service packs.  Unless you know what that all programs you run need to work, then you should leave them in place.

However, given that you have received a used PC I would say recharging the system to the factory settings.  Dell should have provided recovery disk to restore the system failing factory.  If there is no any drive, it is possible that there is a partition on the hard drive containing the recovery information.  You would need to check with Dell for your specific model on how to perform a factory restore.  If you do this, then you will be a "day one" configuration on the PC and should not have a bunch of components installed.  The factory restore now is just what I would do personally.

    Hope that helps.

  • UAC trouble after Service Pack 1 update (Win7)

    Hello

Anyone have problems with UAC on Windows 7 after a Service Pack 1 update?

After the installation of the Service Pack (in fact after installing a hotfix for KB2442962 but the Service Pack install this fix themselves),

programs (e.g. install a programm), requiring a user access control stop after I entered the password for the administrator.

Other things work until they need an administrative account and password. I can only disconnect and then sometimes, I get the error message (translated from German): "too many 16-bit-program files are in use. "16-bit-programs close or increase the value of 'files =' in config.sys. Is that everyone, who have this problem?

Someone knows how to fix this?

    Hello

OK I got it =) it's a Lenovo VeriFace software, which is not compatible with the UAC patch. After you have uninstalled VeriFace, there is no problem with installing software as a normal user =)

If Lenovo have to fix bugs in VeriFace and spread of new software fixed!

  • Windows vista home basic service pack1 and windows vista Home premium service Pack 2

I WANT TO UPDATE WINDOWS VISTA HOME BASIC, WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM TO MY NEW LAPTOP TO MY OLD LAPTOP.  Can I update my laptop which has windows vista home basic service pack1 installed using my laptop which has windows vista Home premium service pack 2 by using a transfer program for example windows easy transfer? HOW CAN I DO THIS?

    Hi ronnieVron,

Your copy of Windows is only allowed for 'a machine If you want to put Vista Edition home premium on your 'old laptop"you can buy a new copy of Vista premium. Another point is that copies of Windows was probably preinstalled on your laptop, which means that, putting license on one side, your copy is related to each specific laptop and so, because the copy is related to the material on each laptop, you would have problems on other transfer machine. Anyway you could invalidate your Windows license.

  • Open administrator cannot open any programs unless you run as administrator.

.. .UAC not OPEN cannot open unless you run as administrator programs.  IE9 IS NOT ONLY IS NOT OPEN

    Hi ionpetcu,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         You get the error message?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software .

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Disable user account control and check.

Enable or disable the User Account Control

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-user-account-control-on-or-off

Note: User Account Control (UAC) can help you to prevent your computer from unauthorized changes. It works by asking permission when a task requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing settings affecting other users.

Method 3: If the problem persists, create a new administrator user account.

    Create a user account

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/create-a-user-account

If the problem is resolved in a new user account, and then follow the article on how to fix a corrupted user account.
