Noise of the extraordinary fan on HP Compaq dc5000 SFF

I used the same HP Compaq dc5000 SFF to work for several years. It has an eccentricity that can be infuriating: if I'm the scene work processor, the fan goes into overdrive and in a few moments, I feel like I'm in a 757 taxiing on the runway at JFK airport.

I wonder if this problem may have been treated by a BIOS upgrade. (To my knowledge the BIOS has never been modernized.) In all cases, these machines are very common in my office and I have yet to visit a person using one that is familiar with the level of db fan I meet several times a week.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hello:

Here is the link to the BIOS for your PC release notes:

http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en & cc = us & prodTypeId = 12454 & prodSeriesId = 403745 & swItem = ir-63382-1 & prodNameId = 403747 & swEnvOID = 1093 & swLang = 13 & taskId = 135 & mode = 5

None seem to approach a noisy fan.

I open the case (after such normal precautions that unplug the power cord, etc.) and look for the dust clogging the fins of the heatsink and fan blades. If there is dust, it is most likely the culprit causing the fan spinning upwards.  Use a can of compressed air to clean the dust from your PC case.

If it's clean, then I guess the thermal interface material between the Processor heatsink the heatsink of surface has dried and you do not have a good heat transfer between the processor and the heat sink (your processor is overheating, but not thermal breakpoint).

The repair is to remove the heat sink. Remove the old thermal paste from the heatsink and processor apply new thermal paste and go back.

  • How to reduce the noise of the big FAN on Portege M400 with Vista

M400 (vista with newer utilities for electric model) FAN blows very noisy constantly regardless of real need for cooling.

Even with zero responsible jobs, less than 1% (flat curve) of the activity, the processor speed to 50% in the model of power and all power to the minimum settings, FAN does not reduce the speed. After a reboot, for a short time, the noise is bearable, we can conclude that the FAN seems to be capable of low speed.

On all the M400, we, the problem is the same.
How to work with M400 in an environment quiet?

    Hello

Toshiba has designed the special version of the BIOS and it was a long time ago. This version of the BIOS has been designed prior to the launch of Vista, and now we can not say that it is not for Vista.
Of course, it is not for Vista.

In Vista, there is a fairly new situation. At first, I must say that it is well known that Vista uses more resources than Windows XP Home edition. Secondly, you know very well that M400 has a lot of background processes running. If I remember well under Windows XP Home edition, there was between 60 and 70, ongoing process. Can you please tell me how are running processes on your M400 running Vista?

It's really not easy to say what to do. I think that you have two choices: either wait that Toshiba has do something (can take a long time) or try to reduce all the processes running and try to optimize the operating system. I don't think this will help a lot, but you can try.

  • Qosmio X 770-noise of the unusual fan

A week after that of the left upper fan purchased a sharp Summit "hum" when the computer is idle. Should not be a problem of dust until recently so not sure what is happening. Any help appreciated. CPU temperature idling around 38 to 41 degrees C. Fan is constantly (strange?) start at around 48%.

    1. should I try to take it apart to access the fan and heatsink of heat?
    2. being thus void the warranty?
3 is this a return to the question of the buyer, or contact Toshiba repair?

    Thanks again.

    Hey,.

Such a fan noise shouldn't t usually appear after a week and I'm sure that it s no problem of dust. Laptop must be cleaned from time to time, but it of enough if you do this every 3-4 months.

If you take it apart you will lose the warranty and she s no option.

Take it back to the shop where you bought it and request a new one. I m sure that it s no problem to swap is it s from just a week. Also if you tell the guys on this noise problem / they will replace ;)

  • Noise of the cooler fan on Satellite A110

My laptop Satellite A110 was a cooler fan noise. Then their where the different speeds of the cooler and after 2 minutes the cooler was standing. After the reboot, the problem was absent.

Them anywhere is a person who has the same problem? The laptop is 1 year old and I have the additional guarantee.

What do you mean exactly by portable was a cooler fan noise?
Do you mean the common noise that comes from the cooling module while the fan is running?

In my opinion is nothing unusual. The speed of rotation of the fan depends on the temperature and the additional parameters in the economy of energy, for example.
If your computer is overheating laptop doesn t (automatically closed unexpected downs) then the cooling module works correctly and you shouldn't t worry ;)

  • HP Pavilion 15: Noise of the fan during games

    Hello world!

I recently bought the HP Pavilion 15. All-in-all, it's good. But when I play certain video games, I hear the noise of the cooler fan. The noise is loud and a little bit of crackling. Some games cause stronger noise (progression of Tomb Raider, hand of fate), other (The Witcher III) - not so loud. The less demanding games produce almost no additional noise.

At first, I thought it might be connected to the audiosystem, but when I use headphones noise crackling under the remains of the screen and the sound in the headphones is good.

This problem does not prevent the game experience - games work without problem, but I don't know if it's a sign of some videoadapter damaged or simply bad. Or are all generally noisier than other pavilions portable?

What can be the problem? What should I do?

    Fellow HP users!

I found the solution on my own!

I had BIOS version F0.5 and improved through this site up to F0.9. And the sounds of crackling disappeared! Everything works!

So, if you have similar problems, just find the update for your BIOS. It is also a good opportunity to check if your drivers are up to date!

  • Portege R600 - the noise of the FAN

The system is a Portege R600-102.

When it was new, it was already noted that the CPU fan was unusually noisy when he started.
Loaded with the latest drivers and BIOS, system becomes louder, especially now when its warmer outside.
Fan and fan duct has been cleaned, no problem of dust.

Does anyone else have this problem or noticed this behavior?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can reduce the activity fan and noise by changing the settings in energy of Toshiba.
Please open and edit the parameters of the method of cooling. Upgrade the lowest.

I do the same on my laptop and now runs a lot quieter.

BTW: what operating system do you use?

  • Satellite L500 and the noise of the fan

Last week, I bought a new laptop Satellite L 500 with Inter i3 processor, 1 GB, 4 GB of ram ATI graphics card, etc.
Everything is OK in general, however, I think the fan is very noisy.

I used to own a HP Pavilion laptop and could hardly notice the fan while with my new laptop, the noise of the fan is really loud.
Does anyone know if this is normal or if it could be fixed somehow?

I did some internet research for a solution, but I couldn't find anything, and apparently nobody complains noise from the fan on L 500 computers portable so maybe it's only me that have this problem?

    Thank you.

For optimal use for laptop use the balanced power plan. Go to the advanced settings for this plan and energy saving of Toshiba, you can find cooling method.
The level here. I'm sure that notebooks fan will be much quieter than before.

  • Touchscreen and the noise of the fan U920T - 11 c satellite fails sometimes

    Hello

    I just bought the U920T - 11 c a few days ago.
I love him but he some of the questions they put me down and make me want to go back.

The first problem is the loud fan noise that lights up. Is there anyway to turn this off?

Happens about 15 minutes using the web and then turns on and off every 5 minutes. It's really strong and be in the break room, it is noticeable.

Can I do to stop this? I'm only using the web and not running other programs.

I also noticed that the touch screen fails to respond without particular reason. I don't know if there is a trend, but it's frustrating when it stops just for no reason and then sometimes everything works again.

Looking at these forums it seems that it is a common problem with the Toshiba. I have a few days before I can return, so if they are not resolved, I think that I might go just form the Samsun ATIV book 9 Lite instead.

    Thank you

    > Happens about 15 minutes using the web and then turns on and off every 5 minutes. It's really strong and be in the break room, it is noticeable.

I assumed that the noise comes from fans who need to run more quickly if the internal temperature would increase.
What you could do is change cooling performance module in single power management.
You could also decrease the performance of the processor. This would lead to a lower heat dissipation and the fans slow down.

    > Also, I noticed that the touch screen fails to respond without particular reason. I don't know if there is a trend, but it's frustrating when it stops just for no reason and then sometimes everything works again

You could try to calibrate the digitizer
Go to the control panel (Windows key + X-> Control Panel)-> Tablet PC setting.

The first display tab contains options such as configure screen stylus and touchscreen.
Here, you should be able to start the installation program and identify the touchscreen.

The first option must contain 1 internal LCD
At the bottom, you might find button to calibrate and reset the settings for the internal LCD.

But it could also be a hardware malfunction. I can't say for sure why this happens, but perhaps a technician should take a look at the material.

  • Satellite M50-PSM53A has the constant fan noise

    Hi all

A year ago I upgraded my Satellite M50 (PSM53A) from Windows XP to Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. I also downloaded the BIOS update for Vista from my region (Australia) Web site so that the BIOS version is now 5.00. However, Toshiba has not last updated BIOS for this model since February 2007 and as a result that my fan is constantly making noise whenever I use the computer (and turn off at all).

The fan sometimes slows down depending on the load of computer work, but is not completely silent and on and blowing out it was Windows XP. In addition, the underside of my computer is not hot as it was on Windows XP, instead the breath fan and no heat is felt on the underside of the laptop. I also changed the settings in the Toshiba Power Saver under power options in Windows Vista, and this does not seem to make a difference in noise levels.

I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem and if anyone knows a BIOS update or if Toshiba will provide a? Because, in all the teething problems, that I had in the upgrade to Vista, it is the only question that I left to correct.

    Kind regards
    -Adrian.

    Hello Adrian

Either a little more realistic and objective s. You have a designed for Windows XP Home edition laptop and now you use the new operating system. I recommend getting some info on Vista and the first interesting info is that Vista uses more resources than the old Windows XP Home edition. More resources mean more pressure on the CPU and other hardware components. The result of higher performance is more heat.

To protect the equipment sensors send information on fan/fans to run and cool the material. So, for me, it's the logical result after installation of Vista. I don't understand why you need this BIOS update should fix this.

BIOS update is designed to install Vista and use of different Toshiba has also designed tools and utilities. I assume that the physical protection is high priority and why to change the values of the fans for Toshiba and may damage the material.

Anyway, if you have installed all try them Toshiba tools use different power plan. For example, use the balanced power plan and define the method to the minimum level of cooling.

On my laptop preinstalled Vista he reduced the activity of fan cooling but the performance is still good and I can work without any problems.

    Good bye

  • Nice info on the utility fan against the noise of the fan

I wrote a small utility to keep the noise from the fan on my Qosmio in check. Several people have asked for it since so I have talked on forums, I have created an installer for it here:

    http://users.PCNET.ro/SP/Toshiba.html

Four people (including me) use it currently. We are all on Qosmios, but it should work on any Toshiba.

    Hello Alexandru

Thanks for this tip. May be this tool works very well. I him have not tested because my Toshiba laptop works well. In my case, I need not fan 3rd party utilities.
Laptop Toshiba computers are preinstalled with the energy saver, which includes the fan control. In my opinion, it works fine.
    Nevertheless, thanks again.

  • HP envy 15 touchsmart whistling noise from the fan

    Hello
I have a hp envy 15 touchsmart j101tx. My problem is that whenever the fan is on, a hissing sound comes from the laptop. The sound is quite loud and very annoying when the fan is at full speed. After some time I realized that the noise is caused by a white cable passing over the fan when the air passes through. Can you suggest a solution for this because the noise is very annoying, especially in the office

    Hi @Nobert_01

I understand that you are having problems with the noise of the fan, apparently due to a cable that seems out of place or friction. I'm happy to help you.

Because the sound seems to be caused by the cable rubbing against the fan, one solution might be to try to adjust its position. To this end, here is the: PC portable HP ENVY 15 and HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service of Guide

It provides instructions for disassembly, and if you want you can try to fix them carefully as cable companies so is no longer in contact with the fan.

    I hope this helps.

  • Over the noise of the fan after upgrade SC8000 to 6.5.30...

Curious to know if anyone noticed an increase in the cooling fan noise level after the upgrade of their SC8000 to 6.5.30?  Updated during the weekend and controllers generally increase speeds of the fan during the startup, then settle down. After the upgrade, we do not have seems to settle into their previous volume.  CPU usage seems normal and systems running OK, we just want to make sure that there isn't something else causing the extra fan speed.

    Thank you.

Yes, it's something they did on purpose. In my view, there is a that'S on it. I would like a link to it, but I'm on my moblile. You should be able to find it in the Knowledge Center.

  • The fan runs super fast. HP Compaq dc5100 SFF

These days HP Compaq dc5100 SFF - or fans have aired the apparently fast fan speed.

Was full of dust (to the point of blocking the absorption on the front fan)

Used an AIR CAN blow the dust out with the lid open.  We also had a blip of brief power in the last days - caused a stop down.  And we have updated some business software.  Has been restarted.

We have 3 more of the same model which are OK

    Thanks for any help

The SFF dc5100 is notorious for bad capacitors on the motherboard.  I had one where the fan ran at top speed all the time.  There was a swollen capacitor located at the end of the PCI 1 connector.  It seems C469.  It's a 6.3 volt 1000uF cap.  I replaced the capacitor and that fixes the problem.  To keep the computer cool lengthens the service life of capacitors.  It is wise of the dust periodically in order to cooling air flows.  How always, once a capacitor going bad, the only solution is to replace it.  A burned capacitor will be inflated. The flat top normally will be curved upwards and, possibly, a leak of a crispy Brown material.
