  • A week old Time Capsule roars momentarily when starting. Is this a problem?

My new Time Capsule makes it a notable howling sound when it starts at the beginning. Sounds almost like the sound a modem makes when you connect - back in the day. The sound lasts a second or two. Then runs perfectly from that point on. The noise occurs whenever the latter makes a backup.

Should I be worried, or is this a known event?

    Thank you

This looks like a bad set of bearings in the hard drive.

It does not make any kind of noise at all... There's a final hum when the disc turns on... That's all.

Return the TC to apple for replacement.

  • Time capsule made steep buzz

I got my TC in July 2013. There are ten days he began to make a noise of almost continuous hum as she has been updated or backup and the led is orange. I unplugged and plugged, but it did not help. Then I pressed the reset button and when she came back on the ROAR had stopped, but he now has a high-pitched hum.

I took it to the genius bar and did a test preliminary and said he worked well and they sucked some of the dust that had gathered near the entrance to the fan in the base. However, he still has this annoying noise.  It doesn't seem to work ok but I am concerned about the noise, and it's annoying.

    Any ideas? Thank you.

Since the hard drive runs only when a backup is running, and he turns down once the backup is complete, noise is probably generated by the hard drive. If it was, you would hear only noise when the drive is on, and things would be quiet when the disk was not active.

This leaves the internal fan as the culprit, which tends to collect dust, which can cause the fan to cry... like it needs cleaning and lubrication.

If one of your Mac is currently covered by the AppleCare... and... the Capsule is less than 3 years, Apple will replace the Capsule of time for you.

If the Capsule is not covered by the AppleCare on your Mac, there is much you can other than to attempt to open the time Capsule, clean the fan and replace it if necessary.  The link below will tell you how to open the time Capsule.

Be careful if you decide to do, because the device tends to almost self-destruction when then case is deleted.  Connectors and cables ribbons can be easily damaged. Good luck!

The guarantee to the United States on the Time Capsule is 1 year and 2 years in a number of other countries. Apple will replace the device for you.  If the Capsule is longer under warranty but you have AppleCare implemented on one of your Macs, the time Capsule is still covered in this framework up to 3 years from the date of purchase of the time Capsule.

If the Capsule is not covered, ask Apple to replace the device for you in any case.  If they won't, then unfortunately you yourself, because Apple does not offer repairs or spare parts for the time Capsule. If you are a DIY kind of person, you can open the Capsule and clean the fan or replace the fan. Be extremely careful when you open the time Capsule to shoot components, there are has Ribbon connectors that can easily tear or break if we don't take care.

Think about adding my airport express capsule of time in my office - plugged into one of the hard wired connections.  Who works AND let me wish the WIFI?

    Thank you!

Yes fine, assuming that first test you the Ethernet port in the office by connecting a computer (with WIFI disabled on the computer) using a spare Ethernet cable runs to ensure that the computer can get a good connection in this way.

Put the airport Time Capsule to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name and password in your existing network. Apple installation "Wizard" automatically configure airport Time Capsule in the correct setting of the Bridge Mode for the device.

Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

By default, the settings are WPA2 Personal. There should be no need to change it.

To view the settings and make changes to them, you need to open the AirPort on your Mac utility.  Are you still using OS X (10.6.3) you specify in your profile?

  • Time Machine (on Mac) does not detect the airport Time Capsule

Looking for advice on how to get the Time Machine utility for access to my Time Capsule. I use an iMac in late 2012 with MAC OS 10.12 TimeCapsule is 2015 7.7.7 running latest firmware. Airport utility is the latest firmware 6.3.7.

When I run the application Time Machine, Time Capsule is not detected. I tried the two WiFi and with cables connected Ethernet (not tried USB yet) and my Time Capsule doesn't have a lightning bolt or firewire ports.

Open Airport utility & see the airport time capsule. I can see all connected devices, including the MAC, but no prompt activation Time Machine on the Time Capsule.

I recently used TM on this iMac with a G-Technology drive. It auto detects the time machine and executes a back up. But airport Time Capsule will not.

    Any suggestions?

Sierra has been problematic with the TC.

    1. make sure you don't have any charge virus protection software. In fact, I would say that disable all software 3rd part at the moment.

    2. make sure that you can actually write to disk of TC.

Attach the TC disc in the finder and copy a file on disk, you can delete it later... It's just to ensure that you have full write permission. If it does not for the most part, you won't be able to use Time Machine... If you can then try TM immediately...

Just to be clear, the TC is a network device. You have tested with ethernet and wireless... Ok.. They are only suitable methods. You cannot use USB. And clearly, TC has never had nor will never be ports Firewire or lightning.

    3. no chance that a reset complete TC. This will not delete the files on the hard drive, but you must make sure that the device is configured on the current computer.

    4. There are many positions in these days... read through them and do some research. Sierra is a bleeding edge new... So wait you to spend a lot of the precious liquid if you choose to be an early adopt.

We understand your current configuration of the network with the Time Capsule (TC). Is the TC the only router on your network? What is the brand and model of the modem Internet you have directly linked it by Ethernet?

Normally you use a wired connection or wireless between the iMac and the TC? This always was a problem or just started to happen? If she just started, have you changed any software/firmware on the iMac or TC?

  • Impossible to extend the existing wi - fi with time capsule airport

    Hello

I have one Capsule of airport TB 2 hung on an Ethernet in my study (lower level).

I already have an existing wi - fi network to ISP modem/router to my media box provided at the top level.

In addition, I have an Extender provided by the ISP of lower level.

I would try to expand the scope of the wi - fi with my time capsule without creating an additional network.

I tried several times to do so, but either it freezes up or creates its own network despite the

mode bridge as stated in Airport utility.

Guide gently with the method or Protocol correct to put that in place.

    Thank you

I would try to expand the scope of the wi - fi with my time capsule without creating an additional network.

It sounds like you may try to extend the network of your "main" router wireless

The time Capsule will not be able to extend wireless network if your 'main' router is also an Apple AirPort base station.  Or... in other words if your 'main' router is not an Apple product, then the time Capsule will not be able to extend wireless network.

So, the first question to ask here would be... What is the number of brand and model of your router "main"?

If you intend to leave the time Capsule connected to your main router with an Ethernet connection, the Capsule must have the maximum value of "create a wireless network.  If you use the same wireless network name and password using your 'main' router, Time Capsule will provide additional wireless coverage in the area where it is located.
