  MY Z820 workstation is equipped with an Intel 520 240 GB SSD as boot drive, on the integrated LSI SAS 2308 controller. It is a GPT disk.

  I just tried to update my BIOS Rev 02.08 Z820. at 02.55 a. rev.

  The update succeeded, and in the BIOS, I check that all the settings are the same as before the update. On the boot, however, I get an error saying "Non system disk or disk error."

  Mass strorage option ROM is set to EFI mode.

  No matter what the settings, it does not start in Windows.

  I started 02.08 BIOS Rev A and now all is well again.

  Is there a compatibility issue with the BIOS 02.55 Rev A combo, Intel SSD 520 and LSI SAS 2308?

  The Z820 motherboard was faulty. A HP technician swapped the moherboard with a new one and now all is well again!

  The storage controller was indeed defective.

  Hi ejn63, yes my BIOS still sees the 2 hard drives. Hard drive 1 is Vista and Win 7 RC and drive 2 is, Win XP and a data partition. When I go to the messagec to press a key, it starts normally in my boot options, which gives me the ability to start in Win 7, Win Vista or Win XP.

• Using HP restore - error Non system disk media

  Recently, I received a HP desktop computer that had a bad hard drive. I buy a Seagate 2 TB disk and I also bought the HP recovery media to restore the machine to factory default.

  Thanks for your suggestions, but I fear that they have been without result, and I have some additional information for others with similar problems.

  Booting from a temporary copy of Win 7 allowed me to update the Firmware of the HARD drive, but the Seagate firmware update are listed says "no update firmware of your player"(not exact verbage). "» I was able to get the old HD to boot, unstable but it started and I was able to do a restore system to it and got the update of the BIOS installed, but once when I tried upgrading the firmware on Seagate it said was not an update of my drive. I confirmed the new model number and this is the only one listed.

  Must the drive be formatted for the update of the firmware to take? That doesn't seem like it should be...

  I'll try to copy it to the partition on the new disk of tonight, but honestly, I feel that I lost my money with restoring HP discs, so I'll just go buy a retail copy of Windows 7 upgrade and use it as the operating system.

  I don't so much mind the error message. It's the loud beep that alerts you when this message appears. I tried to disable the sound by all means possible and it has not yet stopped. • Portege 660CDT "non system disk error"!

  I just bought a used 660CDT and placed a new hard drive in it. Now, I can't load an OS due to this "Invalid System Disk" error. I tried to Boot on my XP Cd, but all the same. I tried to boot from a Disk Norton and nothing more... I have no idea what is wrong...
  I made sure the Bios is set to start first with the drive and not the HARD drive.
  I would use this system someday, but right now I don't see what is happening.

  AFAIK This oldie can treat only 1.3 GB HARD drive. How much capacity has a new HARD drive?
  Unfortunately, it is not easy to say what is the problem, because who knows what you do exactly and what operating system you want to use. Just for info. This old Portege comes with Windows 95 and you should try to use the same operating system.

  "Invalid system disk error means that Windows Setup could not copy the system files on the hard drive.

  If this is a new laptop, chances are that there is no available for this purpose XP driver to make it work correctly with XP.

  Web site of the manufacturer of the laptop computer to check for the XP drivers for your laptop model.

  My Portege R100 crashed and would not restart. I tried recovery without result discs. Just bought a new copy of windows xp pro.   Usually this message appears if you try to boot from the CD that is not bootable.
  Perhaps the BIOS cannot be started from the PCMCIA drive and try to boot from the HARD drive.
  But the disk HARD, the operating system is missing and that is why the message.

  Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and make sure that the boot order is for the HD player to be 1st in the boot order.

• HP d530 - unrecognized HARD drive, "Non system disk or disk error"

  Greetings,

  It is a computer from a friend. It seems that he has lost the CD or diskettes shipped with the computer. I see that recognition of HARD drive does not seem to occur in the SETUP (BIOS), so I guess as a floppy disk or a CD some is necessary.

  Only startup options that are currently available are:

  CD-ROM

  USB

  Floppy drive

  No hard drive recognized. I was able to boot to the CD-ROM drive with a Linux LiveCD, but it also confirmed that no HARD drive is recognized at the time. I guess it is possible that port IDE 1 is dead.

  I have tried to reset the CMOS operating in SW50 5 seconds, but that has not helped to recognize the HARD drive.

  The model number is:

  SFF (DC578AV)

  p/n DC578AV

  Restore XP on this machine would be the best option, but if I can get the recognized HARD disk and install a version of Linux, it would be OK also.

  Assuming that the hard drive is on a different IDE channel as the CD drive, try swapping them.  If the CD is always considered and the hard drive is not, it would make sense that the hard drive is faulty.  If the Linux Live CD can not see the hard drive after the Exchange, a sign that it's done.

  can someone please help me because I have a deadline Coming up and need of my laptop works properly!

  I have windows 7 64 bit running on an HP ProBook 6550 b. My PC works fine for about an hour, after an hour, the screen freezes for 10 seconds and then I get the KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. It reboots and then I get the message "Non-system disk or disk error."

  So I just shut down my PC and pitch up and everything works perfectly fine again for about 45 minutes. Then the same problem again.

  I tried several things. I run a chkdsk /f /r it find some issues. I tried and followed some knowledge how to change the paging file settings. I ran a memtest. No error with the memtest.

  Finally, I went into the BIOS and I did a test drive HP. It has almost immediately, but I can just close the BIOS and boot my PC and windows works fine.

  What can I do to fix this other then buying a new hard drive. (I intend to buy a new laptop anyway in a few months after that I spent my time and trial period is over. "(Mais à court terme j'ai vraiment besoin cela fonctionne)."

  Just in case someone else encounters this.

  The problem was due to my hard drive SSD M4. There was a problem with the firmware causing crashes time after that the disk has been used for several hours then +-5200. The firmware upgrade fixed it for me.
