  I have the latest version of Skype, and my Windows laptop recently had an update. When I installed the update, it asked to reboot the laptop, on which I agreed to do. I got Skype and some other applications that are running and thought that it would hurt. I had been messaging my friend and she told me when I restart my laptop. I saw the message, but I just didn't had "open" the window. Then the thing emerged in the 'Force Shut Down"came, to which I agreed. When it rebooted and relit, I went to Skype, and he said I had a notification. I saw the conversation, but it does not go far. I tried the "marked as read", which did not work.   Well, if there is no new messages on the app world or updates to all the other apps then I'll go with my 1st theory by saying it's bugged. Facebook and Appworld do for me on occasion, where a message icon won't go away, and the only way I make them go away is to uninstall and reinstall. Doesn't hurt to try.
