now, I can't get my computer up, according to me, I have a virus... I have a notebook... it tells me to reinstall a copy of the file, l.dll... root\system32\ha windows i can't open my computer this is what keeps poping have cd can b used... once more laptop... it is only a 11 inches and no access to the CD... so know u help me.. pls

What kind of laptop is (make and model).

If it supports booting from a USB key, you can make a bootable flash drive that starts the recovery XP (no XP media required) Console.

Surely someone can help you with that (how about it system engineers)?

There is probably nothing wrong with your hal.dll file - XP only can not find.

Unfortunately, even the 'new' Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system when a new question is asked, so we don't know anything about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

Maybe someday the dialog box 'ask a question' forums XP will ask these questions automatically when a new thread is started so I don't have to ask every time.  It might even be possible to solve a problem in a single response when enough information is provided.

Please provide additional information on your system:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

P. S.

You are unlikely to simply replace the hal.dll by copying a file hal.dll from another system, and here's why:

When XP is installed, it selects and develops the hal.dll appropriate among seven possibilities of compressed on the CD of installation files:

HAL. DL_
HALAACPI. DL_
HALACPI. DL_
HALAPIC. DL_
HALMACPI. DL_
HALMPS. DL_
HALSP. DL_

Everyone who can be developed in a hal.dll file, so if it is your intention to replace your hal.dll, you should have to understand or know in advance which is the right one for your hardware, motherboard and processor.  If you just picked one at random, you would have a chance of one in seven (14%) to get the right pair.  You will get maybe lucky.

Most people would simply choose the file hal.dl_ to expand, but it's the simplest, most boring, generic, and less likely to be correct of all the choices.  It might "work" but it will work hard on something very old material of the system or a virtual machine.

The file hal.dl_ on the CD is the most boring of all:

HAL. DL_

* Standard PC

It's a good choice for some virtual machines (such as VMWare), but a very poor choice for most systems.

If I wanted to replace the file hal.dll in the same system here, I would need to expand this file:

HALMACPI. DL_

* Standard PC
* Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
* Multiprocessor ACPI
* MPS multiprocessor

If I wanted to replace the file hal.dll on an older system here, I would need to expand this file:

HALAACPI. DL_

* Standard PC
* Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
* ACPI Uniprocessor
* Multiprocessor ACPI

If you thought you needed to replace your hal.dll because your system was complaining that the hal.dll file is missing or damaged, the message is misleading, and the real problem is usually the boot.ini file and has nothing to do with the hal.dll file.

It is also why when people trying to help you give instructions to put in your XP CD and unzip the hal.dl_ file to replace yours, it's usually bad well-meaning advice from a novice.  It is less likely to be the right choice.

You may be able to copy one from a system with a very similar hardware and the things you can do, but chances are that you will not solve the no boot scenario.  I've never seen a corrupted hal.dll.  Seen the message, not the problem...

That kind of help is generally going to be very bad - although it sort of logic in a first time and is 'logic', but it will never work favorably and it is usually not the problem anyway.

I fixed the problem "missing or corrupt hal.dll" several times, but I've never needed to replace a hal.dll file doing - which is never really the problem.

I don't want to turn off the computer whenever I have to remove the device.

    I can't know what "all patches" you've tried, but:

    Make sure that the Indexing Service is turned off (at least for the external drive).  To disable disk indexing completely, which will also speed up your computer a bit, see http://lifehacker.com/031440/turn-off-indexing-and-speed-up-windows-xp.  For the external drive, right-click on the drive icon in my computer, select properties and uncheck the indexing disc

    You are referring to the password for the 'Access Manager"for Internet Explorer.

    Microsoft policy for these forums is not to provide advice on "getting around passwords"-
    See this sticky post:
    To support this policy, we ask that no related posts to the cracking of password not displayed in our forums. These posts will be removed, and users who post such information can be banned in forums.

    Personally, I interpret it as meaning the passwords that prevent Microsoft software authentication system (its anti-piracy mechanism) or which may allow you to access another computer (for example, how bypass the administrator password).  Microsoft, however, seems to interpret to include advice for 'reset password of Access Manager', but you might find that advice elsewhere.

    Hello

    Plenty of detail? Or it came with your system - OEM? OEM, you should consult the manufacturer of your system.

    Find a friend with one that you can copy that works if you can. (see note below)

    If you have your product key you can use DVD a friend if it is the same OEM version if not the
    retail version - also needs to be same 32 or 64 bits. You can legally copy DVDs as long as
    you use your own product code. As the creator of the system will sell you another copy of the DVD
    cheap since you already have windows. So if you have an OEM version, you can copy a friend
    DVD if it's the same OEM version and if you have a retail version, you can copy the retail a friend
    DVD - in both cases, you should use your own product key.

    Note:
    (To use a copy of an OEM drive, it must be for the same brand and computer model - more
    OEM uses the same disc on a small series of models and it must be in the same
    limited if not exactly the same model.)

    Hi MAMARDA,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

    I would like to ask you a few questions in order to get a better understanding of this issue so that we can better help you.

    (a) what version of Windows 7 use you?

    (b) what is the exact error message you are getting?

    Method 1: You can also try to perform a file system (scan SFC) verification tool. This tool will fix the system files are corrupted.

    Scan SFC enforcement procedure:

    1. click on the Start button

    2. on the Start Menu, click all programs followed by accessories

    3. in the menu accessories, right-click on command line option

    4. in the drop-down menu that appears, click the "Run as Administrator" option

    5. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled, you will be asked permission before the opening of the command line. You simply press the button continue if you are the administrator or insert password etc.

    6. in the command prompt window, type: sfc/scannow then press enter

    7. a message is displayed to indicate that "the analysis of the system will start.

    8. be patient because the analysis may take some time

    9. If all the files need replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue

    10. If all goes although you should, after the analysis, see the following message "Windows resource protection not found any breach of integrity.

    11. once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

    Method 2: If this is a recent problem that has developed you can try to perform a system restore and check if it works very well.

    To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.

    If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next

    4. click on finish

    Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

    For more information, please follow the below given link:

    How to repair the operating system and how to restore the configuration of the operating system to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936212/

    Method 3: you can try to start safe mode and restore the system, if you are unable to do it in normal mode.

    For a safe boot, you can follow the below given steps:

    1. remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.

    Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

    2. do one of the following:

    a. If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

    b. If your computer has multiple operating systems, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

    When you are in safe mode, follow the steps mentioned above to complete the restore of the system.

    Hope the helps of information.
    Please post back and we do know.

    Accidentally clicked forget Time Capsule, now I can't get it to appear in AirPort Utility.  How can I get it back?

    Turn off all devices on the network... in any order you want

    Wait a minute

    Turn on the modem and let it run for a few minutes by itself

    Switch on the device connected to the modem and let it turn a good minute

    Keep the devices one at a time, about a minute apart from starting until the entire network is back

    Check if Time Capsule has resurfaced

    The question may be because of your corrupt cookie (cookies.sqlite) file

    Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete the other files of cookie present as cookies.sqlite - journal in the Firefox profile folder where the cookies.sqlite file has been corrupted.

    You can also check whether DOM Storage is enabled.

    Where AOL is displayed - homepage?

    I think the first thing to check is if you have any modules related to AOL. These can replace your regular settings. You can view and disable all extensions essential or unknown here:

    Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category

    Note that in most cases, you should use the link to restart Firefox to actually disable the extension that you have chosen to disable.

    Then, to fix your homepage, try the procedure described in this article: How to set the home page.

    If there is a problem with your suppliers of research from Google for AOL, try this extension:
