NTFS drive got converted to RAW disk

My NTFS driver converted to RAW and I can't access it, would you please help?

How I can access without lossing my data!

Hello Mohamed,

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

The NTFS file system provides the best performance and security for data on hard disks and partitions or volumes that

the FAT file system used in some earlier versions of Windows.

Raw disk is used to designate a hard disk access to a raw, binary level, under data from partition level and using file system in the MBR.

I suggest you to refer to this article and check if it helps.
Reference:
Convert a hard disk or partition to NTFS format
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/convert-hard-disk-partition-NTFS-format#1TC=Windows-7

Important notes:
After you convert a partition to the NTFS format, you cannot convert it back. If you want to reuse FAT filesystem on the partition, you will need to reformat the partition, which erases all data on it.

Some earlier versions of Windows cannot read data on local NTFS partitions. If you need to use an earlier version of Windows to access a partition on the computer, do not convert it to NTFS.

Although the risk of corruption or loss of data during a conversion is minimal, you must back up all data on the partition before you begin.

I hope this information helps.

Please let us know if you need more help.

Thank you

  • Query to convert RAW disk

    I'm working on a Compaq Presario C300.

    Windows XP pro.

When I had, he had 2 SP installed, I managed to get 3 SP installed OK, but it does not accept windows updates... & is very slow, freezes from time to time... There is not a lot of data on it, I backed it up. At this point, I'm ready to wipe the machine & reinstall XP, when I try to do that, the hard drive is not seen, even though if I go into the BIOS & run check IDE drive he finished OK.

When I restart a message flashes upward, the beginning of a screen blue scndisk, saying: could not complete the process as type if RAW disk... Despite the fact that there is an operating system on it, how can it be possible?

When I look in computer management, disk management there are no drives listed, only the CD ROM

There is a partition to restore the system on this machine, but when I boot it I either get a message flash on the screen for a second or 2 on the machine in virtual memory that it just restarts.

Initially, I thought that the BIOS was the problem, but has managed to update the BIOS to version F24 OK.

I have the original OS disks, but when I run I get the message saying that the installation can not find any hard disk installed on the computer.  Any help most welcome.

  • RAW disk mapping - virtual Conversion / physics?

    Hi all

I have set up a machine virtual everything on time with a basic disk and also an extra disk I configured as a "Raw Disk Mapping. When I set up the new drive with the wizard in VC, he asked me if I wanted to set up the drive as a virtual disk or physical disk. The Assistant said that if I set it up as a virtual drive, it might be included in the snapshots etc...

At this point I have it configured with physical access.

What I want to do now is to convert the disk to a virtual disk, so I wonder if there is a way to do it?

    Best regards, Nick.

Stop the virtual machine and delete the ROW. Then add the ROW to the VM in virtual compatibility mode and start your virtual machine. You should be good.

  • Re format ntfs drive?

    Hi all

I found a 320 GB NTFS drive usb3 "Bipra' mark on amazon for £24.  Sounds like all the rest and mac to format those are double this price or usb2 only. They get good reviews, as they seem to contain some Seagate drives.  Can I get this one and just re - format? That would save me quite a quid.  As Mac can't read the NTFS (apparently) can they still reformat them?

    Ta

    Granger

Mac can read NTFS disks but impossible, without software, to write about them. Yes, you can use disk utility to reformat the drive Mac OS Extended journaled. If you intend to drive must be bootable OS x, you will also need to partition (a single partition is very well) by using the GUID partition scheme.

  • How to convert a dynamic disk to a basic?

How to convert a dynamic disk to a basic? I can't really deleat the C and readers of the system, and if so, how?

    Hi Brad,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for the query display.

According to the description, it seems that you want to convert a dynamic disk to Basic.

However, we need more information about the issue to help you better.

Please help me to answer these questions.

1 how many partitions are on the hard drive?

2 is installed Windows on drive C?

    3. you have any operating system installed on the hard drive?

To convert the dynamic disk to basic, here are some steps that you can try.

You can try to convert the dynamic disk drive basis (except your drive C :) using the Diskpart.exe in the command line. By following these steps, you can avoid reinstalling Windows XP. But if you want all the hard disk as a single partition, then proceed as follows.

Note: Before formatting the hard drive or perform the steps, back up your data to an external storage device.

Steps to convert dynamic disk to basic

    a. press Windows key + r on the keyboard and in the immediate window, type cmd.exe

    b. in the command prompt and type D iskpart .

    c. at the Diskpart prompt, type list disk . Note the number of the disk you want to convert to dynamic.

    d. at the Diskpart prompt, type select disk . (select the dynamic disk you want to convert.)

    e. at the Diskpart prompt, type clean to remove all volumes on the disk.

    (f) then, at the Diskpart prompt, type: convert base to begin to restore the disk to basic training.

Respond us if you have any queries with hard drive problems and we will be happy to help you.

I read a few threads on this subject and they say to delete all snapshots. Don't have any as soon as I used the vmrun program to list all snapshots for this virtual machine and it returned 0.

can someone help me with this?

    Thanks in advance,

It seems that there is typo in the file extensions of the virtual disk, i.e. '.vdmk' instead of 'hard '!

  • VDR and RAW disk

Hello everyone, just to confirm: RAW disk are supported by only if VDR mode virtual, right?

Also, is it possible to back up a single virtual disk, I.e. C only to a virtual windows machine?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

VDR uses snapshots to back up the virtual machine. Drives ROUGH that support snapshots in virtual mode, then you are on the first part.

It is possible to backup virtual disks with VDR. But don't mix no disks and partitions Windows here. It is possible to create a 100 GB virtual disk and create a 50 GB C: and 50 GB D: in this example, you could save only two partitions because you only have a virtual disk.

If you create a virtual disk for each partition, you can of course save it one by one.

    Kind regards.

  • external USB disk as a raw disk

    Hello

I was looking for the solution but could not find.

I have VMware server installed 1.0.6 on Windows XP.

Machine VM I created since the downturn of the performance, I thought using raw disk option (I hope that better read/write performance).

I want to format my external drive (WD My Book), using ext3 or xfs. Next, I would like to add as a 'raw disk' (not VMDK). I don't know why, but when I check the settings & gt; Material & gt; Hard drive there is no option to add PhisicalDrive which is the USB drive. VMware server can see only my hard drive (PhisicalDrive0) on the laptop, but nothing else.  Is this normal? Can I add PhisicalDrive which is the external drive connected to the USB port? If Yes, please indicate how tcan I do.

    Rafal

USB devices can be "directly" connected to the virtual machine. FireWire devices are considered as a pci device and will not be seen by the virtual machine, like an ethernet card or a pcmcia wlan or other device pci card.

I would like to replace my drive 160gig hard with the disk hard 320gig on my laptop running xp. Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?  I would that all is the same except the size of your hard drive will be increased.

Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?

    Yes.

You use the disk cloning software.  In some cases, a new player may even be bundled with software that will do this for you.

Unless your laptop has a second drive Bay (most don't), you will also need an external hard drive enclosure.  As a general rule, these connect via the USB port, although if your laptop has a connector FireWire or eSATA you can also use these interfaces.

You must select your external enclosure based on 3 criteria: the type of connection to the laptop. the physical size of the disc (2 1/2 inches for computer laptop drives); and player interface (determined by the connection of the internal drive of your laptop). For example only (no recommendation), if you wanted an enclosure for a 2.5 IDE drive "which connects using USB 2.0, Newegg has 17 products

The (slightly) more expensive items among the software, you will need.  For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602 this particular House will work with SATA or IDE drives.

If you buy an external enclosure that doesn't include cloning software, the software may be available for free from the manufacturer of the new 320 GB drive (e.g., http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get it separately (this is not an exhaustive list):
