  When I had Vista, I really liked the fact that Windows Explorer displays the number of words in a Word document using the «Détails» Until I realized that, without apparent reason, it displays the number of words sometimes change to one that is totally wrong - without the actual document being altered (i.e. number displayed in the Explorer of words = 2544, true account of the words document = 3655).

  The only way to solve this problem is by opening the document, undertake a different number of words, and then save the file again.

  Anyone has an idea why this could happen and, more important still, how I can stop what is happening in the future?

  It's function is useful is that I've noticed since the evolution of XP and I bought Word 2007 specifically so that I could use this feature (replacing the, apparently perfectly good and free Open Office software).

  It works without problem until I want to display a large number of records on a page, it takes 10 seconds to display records with a fairly long description (2000 characters +) 60, (it's definitely the only factor during the long wait as eliminated all others) can anyone think that of any ways alternatives/functions to more effectively , keeping in mind, I don't want to put an end to the chain on a split Word

  Hi Dan, thanks for the reply, the 'left' function works a treat, and thanks to your pointers on this one, I did a bit of googleing and found some info on sql do all the work, goes it the word count/dear one loop and comes the number of intelligent characters space, while sql and fast v - soft!

  In CS3 and later versions, you can use this:

  A "word" is defined here as any string of uppercase and lowercase letters and hyphens. It's perhaps too strict, but you can change the GREP to meet your needs.

  I have a book made up of a list of documents with a main frame. I would like to know how many books my book contains. I do not know FrameMaker 12A in file-> tools-> Document report a facility to count the number of words in the document. My book has 50 documents and it is tedious to do by hand.

I already know how iterate over each document in a book, what I would need to know is the function I could call to count the number of words in the document and I think I could do the rest.
