Numbers of the required Partitions

I think creating a dual boot hard drive. I currently have 3 partitions:

Restoration of 1, 2) reserved system, 3) Crash Dump, Boot, Page file + documents, photos, etc.  I drive away with the D: Partition, so mix files and applications with on the #3 partition boot sector.

I don't know if this partition arrangement is the best, but my PC works well with it.

If I had to install Linux Mint 17.3 as my other OS, how could do better? Create a partition of 4 and it install it? Do not know how to proceed with this. I like Windows very well, but want to get other skills of BONE as well.

Thank you.

Could I do it? my computer is completely gone? I could just install windows 7 on a partition I formatted. IM super confused

    Hello Purpleice,

Thanks for posting your question on the Forum of the Microsoft community.

You can not downgrade from Windows 8 for Windows 7 and Microsoft also does not recommend it. However if you still want to install Windows 7 on your computer you will need to boot from the Installation of Windows 7 support and then try to install Windows 7.

Also, if you wish to format it is recommended that you start the computer using the windows installation media 7 and then format the disks. After formatting the drive, you will need to install Windows 7 on one of the main partition.

Note: you must change the boot priority to the media through which you try to start Windows 7.

There is no guarantee that all built-in Windows 7 drivers will include specific hardware. Therefore, please make sure you have the correct drivers available before starting the installation. Pilots usually come on CD/DVD provided by the manufacturer with the newly purchased equipment. Alternatively, you can also download the official vendor Web sites. Have the drivers available will ensure that, after I installed Windows 7, your system will happen in all its fullness. If you meet the above three conditions, we are ready to go.

Important: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

The first step is to place your Windows 7 DVD into the DVD tray and start the machine. Your computer must be configured to boot from the DVD. This is done via the BIOS. On most computers, the BIOS menu are accessible by pressing F2 or Del key while the machine starts.

Once you complete this step, Windows 7 will begin to load. If you see the image below, you're doing good so far.

After a few moments, you reach the installation menu. Your first step is to choose the language and keyboard.

You will now have the menu install now. We have already prepared for installation, so you can click install now and move forward.

The next step is to accept the license agreement.

As you install Windows 7 on Windows 8 that is why you must select Custom Installation the list form.

    Partitioning

The next step is to choose where you want to install Windows 7. It is probably the most important part of the entire plant, but be careful here and make the right choices.

After selecting the drive to install Windows 7, click Next.

    Start the installation

If you are uncomfortable with your configuration, select the created partition and click Next. Windows 7 will be installed on this partition. Depending on your hardware, this can take some time. My tests show about 30-40 minutes.

During the installation, your computer may restart several times. So be.

    User settings

Finally, you will be asked to provide your user name and a computer name. You can also password - protect your account. It is the most recommended. You should opt for a password strong.

    Activation

The next step is to activate your Windows. Take your key and type it here.

After entering the key, click Next. After that Windows 7 will be installed on your computer.

Hope it would help. If problem persists always post back with the current state of your computer and the result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to help you.

    Thank you.

Remove the data cable of all drives except the drive that you want to install Windows 7 on.

    Remove all external devices.

Delete all partitions on the disk leave all of the disc as "unallocated".

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD and then install, when you reach the point where it asks you to select a drive, click the "Advanced" option and create a new partition (at least 50 GB) to install Windows and continue with the installation process.

  • A system totally crashed after downloading the update of windows 7 (from VHP) reloaded vista starting the Dell restore partition and reattach the requirements. Now, how can I restart upgrade

OK, here's the deal... the Dell laptop had a recurring software validation fixed an error that I couldn't keep. I would fix it, Vista should go out and update itself and then I would reboot and bang, back right to the error again, I decided to scrap Vista and install W7. I corrected the error again once restarted in a stable Outlook, downloaded files of Windows 7 upgrade and then discovered that the netframework wasn't right, so I downloaded this solution, am to halfway through it and got a system error. HA! I'll just copy this download upgrade of the window on a USB key, hover over all my personal files on the usb drive, and reinstall Vista from the Dell partition, which I did. Then, I updated all the stuff with the Advisor to upgrade of windows, is gone in Windows 7 upgrade file I moved it to the USB and realized that this point in time, I was an asshole. What a breakthrough!  OK, now how to restart the upgrade process. I paid the money, done the downloads, message, so my hands, discussed and done all the other stuff I've done since the upgrade of Windows 3.1 (each time). Now what...

First I would contact the people who sold you download and see if they will send again free of charge - explain the problem.  I guess you still have the product key, they have sent you that shouldn't be a problem (it will work with any download the same version of Windows7).

Then run Windows7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your system can handle Windows7 or if she need for software or material removed or updgraded: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx.  Follow the instructions he gives as a result of the program (in fact, you should do this first - then you can deal with the download).

After that, you need to further questions in the Windows7 Forums: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/threads where people who specialize in the installation and upgrade to Windows7 will be more than happy to help you in the process.  This is a forum for Vista, and you need to talk to experts in Windows7.

    I hope this helps.

Good luck! Lorien - MCSA/MCSE/network + / has + - if this post solves your problem, please click the 'Mark as answer' or 'Useful' button at the top of this message. Marking a post as answer, or relatively useful, you help others find the answer more quickly.

  • How can I get the product key when missing / or fainted at a group of letters and numbers on the Microsoft product labels?

I am able to see some numbers and letters of a product on the Microsoft label key I bought and you must activate the product. Does anyone know how to find the product key otherwise?

    Your response is much appreciated!

    Hello

If vista is preinstalled (Dell, HP, etc.), this should help you:

In these Forums, it is often recommended to use a magnifying glass and a flashlight to see if you can read the numbers of the product key on the label.

    Also that, read also:

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks and to reinstall the operating system.

They should do this for a small fee.

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

The methods above resettlement generally do not require allows you to provide a product key during Installation, the recovery process uses the Installation product key factory to activate automatically during the resettlement process.

    See you soon.

  • Rebuild the recovery partition

    Hi all

Since my macbook pro in construction since a backup time machine, I have no recovery partition. Not sure if the recovery of time machine is the cause, or that the guy who has this laptop (work) in front of me he erased accidentally.

I tried to use the script of "Recovery Partition creator" on several occasions, but it did not work. It becomes very urgent to get the recovery as soon as I'm running into several issues that require me to have the partition:

    • Disk errors on my internal drive that requires a correction
    • Need to encrypt my hard drive
    • Try to resize my disk internal, so I can install El Captain next to my current OS X I just need to test before you lose access to the work of the features (earlier version cannot be installed as he does not like our proxy for example).

Happy to go all the way to 'clean up' and then to retrieve locks of tiem machine, but no idea how to do things right :-(

    Any ideas?

I feel that you are not the first user or 'owner' of the MBP.  If this is the case, I suggest the following:

    Back up all your data.

Erase the HARD drive and start in the recovery of the Internet (OPTION-COMMAND-R) which will connect you to the Apple servers.  Following the directions, you will be able to erase the HARD drive and install the original OSX the MBP came with.  The recovery partition must be created.  (I guess that the MBP is a 2011 late model or newer).

Install a more recent OSX (as appropriate).

    Reinstall your user data.

    Ciao.

  • Cannot turn on FileVault 2: "some disc formats do not support the recovery partition" version of the OS - 10.11.4

    Hello

I went to turn on FileVault encryption for the first time, and when I click on restart (by FileVault guests) I got a error message that says "FileVault can not be enabled for the drive. Some disc formats do not support the required encryption recovery partition. To use encryption, reinstall this version of Mac OS x on a reformatted drive. »

I found an article from apple support for this problem with El Capitan who recommended first aid running in disk utility.  I tried this but then received the same error message.

    a little history:

-Mac OS 10.11.4 installed running on the brand/model ADATA SP 550 SSD

-This SSD is a 250 GB drive partitioned into two, with one of these partitions being my OS

-J' ran this BONE of a Bay external thunderbolt

-ssd is formatted as HFS journaling +.

I am really confused about this error message and couldn't find much online about it.  I use a fairly recent OS install.  I installed the operating system clean and made all my preferences and install so that I can encrypt and then back up this pristine OS environment in time machine so that I could always go back to it on the line in case where things are bunk too upward.  I'd have to install yet another OS to clean and do all my long software installs and system preferences settings... SIP.  I don't know if that makes a difference, but this version of the OS that I have been cloned by superduper to this SSD partition.

What is the brand of SSD that I?  Might that matter?  I appreciate all the comments.  I'm really scratching my head...

    Thank you very much

To enable FileVault, you need a recovery partition, which you don't have. You can create one by reinstalling OS X.

If you do not already have a current backup, please backup all data, and then reinstall the OS. * you don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need the backup unless something is wrong. If the system has been upgraded an earlier version of Mac OS X, you may need to the Apple ID and password to use.

There are ways to back up a computer that is not fully functional. Ask if you need advice.

If you installed the runtime Java distributed by Apple, and still need, you will need to reinstall it. It goes the same for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.

Related support article refers to OS X 10.11 ("El Capitan"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later versions.

  • Windows does not start after the MAC partition resize

    Hi all

I am newbie in MAC OS.

I have 2 bootable partitions on my MBP: MAC 10.11.4 Capitan and WINDOWS 10.

    What I have is:

    1. install MAC OS in the DSS of any origin.

    2. use bootcamp, divide the similar size for WINDOWS 10.

    3. install the new fresh WINDOWS 10 correctly and updated. Yet to backup. None of the additional applications. WINDOWS is default OS.

    4. so far, I need MAC OS or WINDOWS OS correctly. Yet to backup.

    5. I need to resize smaller MAC OS, divide into partitions of DATA for data could leave the two BONES.

    6. Since then, I can't start Windows. Doesn't appear that "no device bootable bra bra bra...»

7 but if I click on Option after turning on, I still see MAC OS option.

Could help me fix bootcamp, so I can have the WINDOWS startup and the DATA partition?

    Thanks a lot before.

    1. your iMac end 2013 supports the facilities of BIOS/MBR and GPT/EFI.

    2. the legacy BIOS/MBR method requires a hybrid MBR.

3 EFI/GPT is recommended for your specific model.

    4. you can use the GPT Fdisk steps in your link to make your drive a GPT disk only. It is not enough.

    5. you will need to convert the FAT32 partition space using the following OS X Terminal

    diskutil eraseVolume free disk0s4 FREE

This will return an error, because free space is not associated with disk slices.

    6. at this point, use the USB installer created by the wizard of BC, boot from it and hold down the Alt/Option key and select Boot EFI (not Windows). Point to the portion of the free space that you see after the + 620 MB Recovery HD. It will separate into a small (128 MB) MSR and the rest as MSD (NTFS).

    7. do not install W7 in Boot EFI, because it has some difficulties.

    8. when Windows is installed, and BC drivers are not installed, run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder.

    9. If csrutil is not found, you are in the recovery of the Internet, because your local Recovery HD is corrupted. The rescue of the failure of the local recovery is restoration of Internet. Your must be on El Capitan. There is no csrutil (or SIP) before El Capitan.

  • HP 450-011: delete the recovery partition after upgrade to win 10?

I have a new HP 450-011 and it came with Win 8.1 and the recovery with the letter D: drive partition.  I did the upgrade to windows 10.  I made a set of recovery DVD for win installation 8.1.  Is there a reason for me not to delete the D: drive and replace it with my information?  I seriously doubt I'll want to roll back to 8.1 Win.

    Greetings,

Have you tested the Win 8.1 HP Recovery disks before installing Win 10?

A question is: If you need technical assistance from HP tech for a possible hardware problem. HP normally requires that the factory installed operating system to take in charge. This policy of HP may have changed during the upgrade to win 10. I do not suspect.

You can export the recovery, Partition because it will not work now in any case.

But you need a way to go back to win 8.1 when you need HP warranty support.

Since you have already upgraded to Win 10, the only way to check the recovery of 8.1 Win disks is to use them and start all over again. Or the support of disks/USB recovery HP Win 8.1 on a new equivalent or larger HDD or SSD. A good installation means that you have now the factory install on this disk.

    It's a lot of work.

The problem of guaranteed support is your problem.

I have eliminated this problem by installing Win 10 on a new SSD. I have HP Win 8.1 on a separate SSD and win 10 on a different SSD. Possible guarantee problem solution means earn 8.1 running on HP SSD factory to check the problem of winning 10 SSD.

I have 8.1 Windows on my Mac.  I wanted to repartition the Windows partition and make bigger it because I was running low on space, and the Windows partition is what I use it mostly for graduate studies.  About a year ago, I took an easy youtube video and used Mini Wizard Partition re-partition space and it worked perfectly.  I have found the same video and tried to repartition the Windows partition again, but apparently I royally screwed up.

My BootCamp is not yet visible more in disk utility.  Under the partitions, there is an option called "disk0s4" greyed, but I'm not allowed to do something with it.  I can't verify or repair.  If I go to Applications, BootCamp Assistant is there, but he wants me to start the installation of BootCamp.  It was not an option to restart Windows more, and when I turned on with alt + market, Windows was not an option more.

    I followed this tutorial:

    http://nerdr.com/bootcamp-partition-lost-repairing-Mac-partitions/

and when I restarted my Mac, restart Windows was an option. So I thought that I fixed it! EVIL.  My screen was black and said: 'Missing Operating System '.

I downloaded EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard for Mac (because it was another suggestion), and I was able to recover and see the files on the NTFS disk0s4, so I'm quite positive, they have not all been completely erased.  Or at least the part of basic Windows is still there.  I can't recover the drive to anything, because it tells me that I will just be fitness on the same drive, and I honestly don't know how to retrieve these files will help with the side of the partition of things.

I also used TestDisk and it seemed to find my missing partition, but in the middle of analysing it, it says something like "disk too small."  After further research, I went through and took only the most recent score that seemed to be deleted with NTFS, and when you are trying to do, it would allow me to make a 'logic' partition because he said something in red, as 'bad file.'

My Mac still works perfectly, but I'm terribly need to recover my windows.

Here are my findings from a similar position:

Now, my major dilemma is that in the original post, he said to the partition of the hybrids with the numbers of 3-4-5, but I was unable to do so.  When I tried 5, he said "partition does exist or is too large."  So I used the 2 3 4 numbers.  Now, I'm at the point where I use the w command (to write), but I don't want to do it if I didn't the other steps correctly.

1 mini Partition tool is very dangerous and should never be used on a Mac, in particular, more than once.

    2. article NERDR is the most irresponsible article about these issues and causes and exacerbates still more data loss.

    3. Please do not rewrite the MBR/GPT with Gdisk.

    4. you must return to Testdisk. TestDisk is used only for scanning, not for the updates. All updates using Gdisk, not binding Testdisk, once the right partition headers have been found.

5 Please after the release of

    diskutil list

    Cs diskutil list

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk/dev/disk0

  • F11 HP recovery does not start in the recovery partition

    Hello!

I am an owner of a HP Mini 5101. It has a function to press F11 to restore the system to the State "out-of-the-box". But my problem starts here. When I press F11 I immediately get a screen that says boot Windows on top manager and and error: 0xc000000e and required device is inaccessible.

This started after I made an installation "clean" with the Windows 7 DVD that came with the computer I have tried to avoid all the "crapware" that comes with the new book.

If I boot into Windows, the HP_RECOVERY partition is visible and the image of HP recovery is about it.

Is there anyway to get the recovery of F11 back to operational status? I have a few BCD edition knowledge that help to my problem...

    Thank you very much!

    U

I thank very you much for getting back to me so quickly.

I must apologize because I did not explain my problem in the right way. Technically, I am able to the boot partition, but the problem occurs when the partition must start in WinRE or WinPE, I guess that for the recovery to start. The loading process is immediately blocked same front initially than anything "things related Windows" starts loading. So about five seconds after I turn on the computer and boot into the recovery partition, or by pressing F11 error that I have described will appear.

    Update:

I managed to solve my problem. After setting the active recovery partition and boot from the USB installation with windows 7, I managed to fix the mbr which has been altered and the score did not know what to start. So after fixing it, I had no problem to start the recovery.

    Thank you!

  • Get the Error Message When you try to reinstall Vista: Windows cannot open the required file: E:\Sources\install.wim

I'm trying to reinstall windows vista for the following reasons:

    1. I have SQL Server 2008 installed on my computer.  I deleted some files a long time ago and it screwed something and I couldn't reinstall.
    2. I had partitioned my hard drive for vista half and half SuSE and I deleted who and when I did, I think I deleted another partition - my recovery partition (E:\?).
    3. I need to clean my laptop.

When I try to start the installation of a disk and I put in my product key, I get the following error:

Windows cannot open the required file E:\Sources\install.wim.  The file does not exist.  Make suure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.  Error code: 0 x 80070002.

Let me know if you have any ideas how I can fix it.  My next step was to recreate this E directory and download the install.wim file and re start the installation.  I could not find the file install.wim well.

    Hi Rob,

I checked the link you provided.  What you downloaded was just the Vista recovery environment.  You cannot actually re - install Vista with that and if you blew your recovery partition unfortunately you may be out of luck.  You blew your partition containing Vista runs so the SFC will be of no help either.  I wish I had better news for you, but I don't see any way o get on without a Vista DVD.  I have good news for you if.  When you get your HP drive if you have problems with the installation, we will be able to help you with that.

Take care and let us know if you need assistance when the disc arrives. Locutys of Borg
