NVIDIA driver causes my computer to freeze

I have a HP Media Center PC 7360n. It is a windows XP model.  It freezes or crashes sometimes unless I have disable the video driver.  If I uninstall the driver and restart, the computer is fairly stable, as long as I don't change the video settings.  When I select the Media Center program, it tells me that the resolutin must be changed to media center work.  If I do that, in a short period (less than an hour) the system will freeze any program is in use.

I downloaded the latest video drivers.  It is less stable than the default driver.  I have reimagee my hard drive a few years ago.  The installation process has informed me that the video (which settled in my PC) card wasn't compatible "Windows".  The graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 6200SE TurboCache (TM).

Is there a video card that will fix my PC?

JW1939, welcome to the forum.

If you try to use a driver provided by nVidia retail, it will not work.  The only driverthat works is one provided by HP.  They have their motherboards made to their specifications and drivers do not work.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC - mobile screen causes computer to freeze

As I said in the subject, move the screen of my laptop causes my computer to freeze for a few seconds. Frost, I hear the mouse drags and moves in a few seconds the sound (if there is) is repeated on the sound current he was playing, and the applications are frozen in these seconds.

When this gel would happen, I checked-> network adapters Device Manager and noticed that he was missing the devices "Intel Centrino Wireless N-1000" and "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter". However, this could be because I checked it immediately when the computer starts.

Now, I have noticed that this problem only occurs when the laptop screen is in a certain angle, or when I move it. I strongly suspect that this problem is related to the wireless network adapter. My reasoning, because it is because when I use the wifi (I use when wired at home), move the screen of the laptop freezes as described above and the wifi icon immediately shows that the device is disconnected.

My question is: what can I do to correct and prevent this problem from occurring again in the future? I've updated the drivers by clicking on the "Update Driver Software" option when I right click in Device Manager, which could be a problem if they are not compatible with my device.

    Hello AndrewGG,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that the mouse will be late when you move the screen. This issue is pilot or associated hardware, and without being there to test it, I wouldn't be able to check 100% of certainty.  I did some research on this issue. Unfortunately, the only reliable troubleshooting which remains is to reinstall the operating system. Too, there are different issues that could be causing it. Reinstalling the operating system will address all, unless there is a hardware problem.

First, please save all the files you need. You can find specific steps on how to proceed in the following HP document: backup of files (Windows 7)

Once this is done, you can safely reinstall the operating system. I'll also give you a document on how to do it: perform a recovery of the system (Windows 7) HP

Please let me know how it goes. Thank you!

  • Cause updates Windows vista freeze on configuration after reboot

Hi, I have problems with the Windows Vista updates that are causing my computer to freeze the configuration step once the computer has been restarted. He gets updates 3-0% 1 configuration but does not progress. I have then turn off and start in safe mode to restore the system. The updates are: KB2559049, KB2536276, KB2556532, KB2563894, KB2567680, KB905866, KB2563227, KB2570791, KB915597.

I tried install one at a time and only managed to install updates, but those above seem to prevent the computer from freezing as described.

I had an infection maleware a couple of months (the one who pretended to be the windows Security Center and tries to make you buy software). I removed it with Malewarebites. I did at least a success many updates as a result - and then, these problems started when I treid to do this series of updates. I read in other issues of the forum that the maleware could be the cause of my problems to update and that maybe I need to format and reinstall windows. Is this correct?

    Thank you in anticipation

Thank you very much for your help. I tried to use the patch program in suggestion (1). This did not help. In the end, I have solved the problem by starting the computer in safe mode. This allowed then updates the installation (the case as on normal start up the computer froze as he tried to set up the updates). Then I have to restart the computer normally without any problems. I have no idea why it worked! Thanks again.

  • The faulty Synaptics Touchpad on x 2 13-m121sa Split driver causing frost and lack of response from the mouse

Edit: I found a solution, scroll down.

I had problems with my new Split x 2 similar to those already explained in the forums by other users. The symptoms are:

    1. unusual hanging or freezing of the mouse pointer on the screen and the use of gestures temperament (two fingers to scroll, zoom, etc.).

    2. slowdown in the computer in general; acting lethargic and freezing during light use or after closing the display.

The symptoms seem to change according to the duration of the computer was operated and are affected by the screen from the dock of disconnection/reconnection.

Being very good with these things, I decided to investigate and discovered the following:

The root cause of both problems is the driver for the Synaptics Touchpad. While the latest version available on the HP website (17.0.10.9) seems to solve all unusual freezing of the pointer it has a large memory leak. In other words, when you move it on the touchpad pointer uses the memory of the computer. This is normal, but the problem is that the driver for the touchpad does not return memory; It cannot be reassigned. In other words, after a few hours of computer use (or to have the display closed) memory reached saturation point and the version of the computer to a halt.

If you encounter the same problem take a look for yourself: open the Task Manager and look at the performance tab. Under the brief entitled you will find a value for "Non paged pool. With the computer idle, this number will not rise, but move the mouse and you will see it go gradually upwards without return. I have confirmed this to be the Synaptics driver using the Windows tool poolmon.exe - the culprits are the Irp and SynT.

About the solutions, I tried a lot - but there is no absolute solution.

You can uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad driver and the problem will disappear - the memory usage is no longer freezing or high. But unless the driver that the computer is to use the standard Windows driver - there is therefore no multitouch gestures like scroll or zoom in.

I tried to install the generic Synaptics driver available on their site, and the computer will not allow him. Regardless of this, I forced the installation of the driver, but the generic driver does not work with this Touchpad anyway (error code 10). I tried the latest version (17.0.19) and a former one (16.2.21) without success. Even earlier (e.g. 15.x.x) refused to run on the grounds of incompatibility.

HP support suggested a "Refresh" of system setting to factory, but put aside from the huge inconvenience of time and losing files - I know that this does not work either. Apparently a clean install worked for a single user - but for this you need an installation of Windows or USB disc that I did not - and I am skeptical that it would work anyway.

So now I use the touchpad driver Windows standard without being able to scroll, zoom or use them slide-in gestures of Windows 8.1.

If a representative from HP is reading this, I strongly suggest that this issue be escalated. A simple update to Synaptics could solve this problem which is causing the computers people freeze and lose your support staff time.

TL; DR: Driver HP Touchpad is defective and causes a memory leak. Synaptics has generic drivers do not work. And the standard Windows drivers are not satisfactory.

    SOLVED!

Through my own research I found a solution. While the most recent driver listed under this model is 17.0.10.9 it is actually a newer version which doesn't have this problem: version 17.0.10.16!

I am always disappointed that HP has not suggest this solution themselves, given this driver was published in November 2013! HP if you're reading this: Please allow this driver for this model in your support pages.

In any case, the solution is:

    1. open Device Manager (Control Panel-> hardware and sound-> Device Manager)

2 in the 'mice and other pointing devices' open «HID Synaptics TouchPad»

    3. in the "Driver" tab, click "Uninstall".

    4. the pointer will disappear - restart the computer

    5. download the new driver from here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=uk & lc = on & softwareitem = ob-127354-1

(if that link fails try to search online for 'synaptics driver 17.0.10.16')

    6. open and install the driver

I hope this helps. HP, please send my consulting fees through PayPal (!)

    Hello

A few months ago I bought a Satellite A500 - 1:6 and I am almost happy with it. In fact, I have 2 problems:

1 - from time to time, the screen goes black for a few seconds and comes back to life after showing + a message on the Nvidia driver which has failed, but was back +. I tried to update the Nvidia driver, but it was even worse.

    2. when I use wi - fi, most likely my laptop eventually freezing for a few minutes, then followed by a BSOD.

I don't know if it's relevant, but I had to update the BIOS when I bought because there was another problem (the laptop awake by itself, early in the morning).

If anyone has an idea that I can solve these problems, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Mike.

  • Qosmio G50 PQG55A: NVIDIA driver - update or not

    Hello

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

The short question is, should I update my NVIDIA driver from 175,90 (as shown on the Web from Toshiba site) to the Version: 186.81 WHQL as suggested by the NVIDIA site.

    The long version follows...
My Qosmio G50 (PQG55A-04J01Y), running under Vista 64 Bit, crashes intermittently. It is sometimes good for more than a week earlier, sometimes once or twice a day.

I was quite thorough with virus and malaware controls.

Everything seems to stop, even if the mouse still works.
I have to turn off the PC, sometimes reboot Check Disk runs and corrects errors.

Windows Problem Reports and Solutions comes with the following:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NVIDIA Graphics Driver has stopped working properly.
An update of the driver, as appropriate, could prevent this problem does not happen.
There are several ways to find and install the driver updates, but it's best to let Windows do it for you. Try the step below, which describes the process. If it does not produce a driver update that resolves the problem, try the remaining steps in the order shown.

    1. search the optional third-party updates
    2. try to manually update the NVIDIA Graphics Driver
    3. check the NVIDIA Corporation Web site for driver updates
    4. check the Web site of the manufacturer of your computer for driver updates

If NVIDIA Graphics Driver was preinstalled on your computer, check the Web site of the manufacturer of your computer for driver updates.

How to upgrade manually a pilot using a file downloaded?

    > Short is, devrais I update my NVIDIA driver from 175,90 (as shown on the Web from Toshiba site) to the Version: 186.81 WHQL as suggested by the NVIDIA site.

Generally, you must use the graphics driver downloaded from the Toshiba driver page.
The graphic card driver from the Toshiba page has been tested and it s certified by Toshiba.

The common graphics driver nVidia is not designed for laptop and that's why these drivers don't support a protection against overheating.
    Driver Toshiba done!

So using the page nVidia graphics card driver can be risky and could overheat your GPU so the use of 3 third-party drivers is always at your own risk!

I have thin you should stay with the driver from the Toshiba page
