Welcome to the HP community @fredstir,

I read your post on your Officejet 5740 do not print to the photo thew tray and wanted to meet you with my suggestions. If you have not tried to uninstall the printer software, restart the PC and then reinstall the printer once again, try it. You can run the Installation Wizard for Windows HP printer to find and install the printer for you.

When I turn on my OfficeJet 5740 fate tray Extender as it should. When I disable the extension of the printer tray retracts. The extension of the tray is supposed to retract when the printer is stopped or not?

    Hi @Nemecci,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I checked into it to be sure, as our laboratory machine was not back either, and this is a normal behavior. The output tray has an auto deployment feature so that the printer ejects automatically to catch the paper, but he retracted, that part is up to you

Hope that answers your question! Have a good!

  • 7510 Photosmart Photo tray

I just bought a Photosmart 7510 and I'm a little confused by the photo tray.  My confusion comes when you have to lift until paper is inserted in the regular paper tray.  When we look at on the instructions in the manual and online photos to believe that you are able to lift the photo tray and lock it in place so you can put paper in the paper tray.  However, I am on my second printer where when I raise the photo tray it does not lock in place and I have to hold it up with one of my hands so I can insert the paper into the paper tray.  That's the way it is supposed to work and the instructions for insertion of plain paper are leaving aside the fact that you have resisted the photo tray?  I did call the HP technical support but the woman I spoke to had trouble understand me and although she eventually go and test this out on a printer in its call centre saying that I don't have to hold, she kept all the time on thinking, I was talking about the installation of photo paper, plain paper not and I fear she tested tilt the clear door located above the photo tray not actually lift the entire photo tray.  Someone else has this printer that allows you to check whether or not my printer is what it is supposed to before I return a second printer and find there nothing wrong with that?

    Hi dragonmasterdoo,

The photo tray locks in the up position. What you can do is remove the photo tray while you load the standard paper and then reinsert the photo tray in the printer.

I tried to restart the computer to reset, but in vain.

    Hi @KarenPM,

I understand that you are having problems to print from the photo tray. I can help you with this.

I would like to do a hard reset to see if that will solve the problem.
Let the printer and disconnect the printer cable and the wall socket for 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cable to the output of the printer and the wall, and not a surge protector.
This ensures that the printer is full on and can help this situation.

Here are the steps to print the photos. HP ENVY 5540, 5570 Deskjet and Officejet 5740 - print photo printers.

If you're still having problems, it may be a damaged printer driver, try the following:

    Close all applications.

In the Apple menu, click OK, click Applications, and then click utilities.

    Double-click disk utility.

Highlight your hard drive / partition on the left.

Click on check and then repair disk permissions.

    Restart the computer...

    Reset the printing system:

Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer deleted can be re-added later by clicking the sign plus (+) symbol.

Click on the Apple icon and then click on System Preferences.

    Click on Printers & Scanners.

Make a right click (or Ctrl + click) in the left white side panel, and then click Reset printing system.

Click OK to confirm the reset.

Type the name and the correct password.

Click OK to reset the printing system.

Then click on the sign to add the driver, highlight the printer +. (you may need to click the drop down menu to select the name of the printer) Then click the Add button.

Try another application to see if you have the same results.

How is the printer connected? (USB, Ethernet, WiFi)

The User Guide lists this article - see Chapter 2, page 8

It is assumed that the document provided with the printer is intended to be used in your type of printer:

    Thermal inkjet Drop-on-demand printing

If, by chance, the book is actually for a Laser printer - the label on the packaging of paper would indicate this - then the printer would probably have problems with the paper.

Glossy paper is picky - if you don't have already done:

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 e-All-in: how to remove the output tray on my HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 e-all-in-one printer

I can't remove the output tray.  I do some print double-sided (one in color, the other b & w).  It's time to remove the main input tray to place paper for side 2.  It would be much easier to take the 1 side printed just as it ended, and then set it just fine on top of the blank sheets in the main input tray to print page 2.

I can't remove the output tray.  The store clerk said that it should be easy to remove and re - install, but that it can be kept in place by a piece of tape.

I'm prone to breaking things, I am working on that.  I don't want to break my 4 month old printer!

    Any ideas?  Thank you.

The main part of the output tray is not removable.  There are a few alternatives: the tray can be removed partially opened and printed pages, loaded in it - it should not be necessary to remove the tray completely.

The other possibility would be to simply print using the auto duplexer.  If you are printing on plain paper or paper index, it should work, it would not be suitable for printing on the back of the photo paper.

  • OfficeJet 5740: Warning of false 'out of paper' Officejet 5740

When you print from iPad or phone using AirPrint, Airprint menu displays the message 'printer is out of paper' whenever the JO 5740 is selected, and yet the printer is full and prints normally without worrying. On Mac, printing queue always shows "paper tray is empty", still prints normally anyway. He did it since the first time I ever printed on it. I did an online chat with the help of HP, and the representative concluded that the printer was defective. I switched the printer at the store that I bought it since then, and the second printer does exactly the same thing from the moment I plugged it. The printer itsself never shows a warning of paper output. Removal and replacement of paper do not help. In any case, I'm wireless printing. Please note, that the printer WON'T pick up the paper and print normally; It is just falsely indicating one out of paper.

Jac I found this on my own. HP was going to replace this printer because they concluded that it was defective. However, it works as expected! This printer has two paper, one for plain paper trays and one for paper photo 4 x 6. Because I do not print photos, I didn't load the photo tray. Thus, each device notified me that the printer is in paper. All I had to do was load the paper picture sample provided with the printer and the BAM!, no more message. I can't believe I spent an hour on the phone with the help of HP check of the cables, reinstall the drivers, reconfiguring wireless, move the printer closer to the router, blah, blah. They don't even know their own products.

  • OfficeJet 5740: How to print on non-standard size paper?

When I try to print a MS Word document to a 5 "wide x 12" sheet of labels, I get the following error message:

'Tformat of paper he detected by the sensor in the printer does not match the selected paper size.

I tried to set the paper size in the Word document and using the HP printer Assistant but without success.

Is it possible this model only supports printing A4 (in which case what is the Photo tray for?).

  • HP Officejet 5740: Msg 'printer is in an error state.

    Hello

I have a 5740 which is defined as a remote wireless printer by itself in my home network.

Recently, I received the message 'printer is in an error state' when I press print and found out the print job will be lance automatically, only after I turned the printer off and restarted. What happened several times. I tried to use HP & Doc Scan printing, but this did not help.

Appreciate your advice on the following points: -.

    1. What is the cause for this?

    2. connecting the printer via the USB port on my HP All in one PC would help eliminate this recurring issue?

    3. If Yes, should I uninstall the printer software first?

    4. always print wireless from my laptop or mobile devices when the printer is connected via a cable to my PC?

What do I have to uninstall and reinstall the software for printing these devices as well?

    5. when I reinstalled the software, it come a last step where it will ask me to register so far HP ink. As I have already registered for the program, what should I do to allow me to complete the installation of the software without duplicating a new series of HP ink instant registration?

    Thank you.

    Hi @Chrissy_61,

Thanks for joining the Forums of HP Support for a solution to your printer problem.

I understand that you use a HP Officejet 5740 e-all-in-one printer with a Windows 10 computer and you need to restart the printer to clear a State of 'error', so the printer will print. I would like to help with that.

There are also a few different reasons why something like this can happen. It could possibly be network or firewall related, or maybe even related software.

I would like to begin by downloading and running the tool HP Print and Scan Doctor to check the installed printer software. This tool can diagnose and solve many problems of printing software and printer.

You can also check to make sure that the printer firmware is up-to-date. On the Control Panel Home screen controle control printer, drag your finger from right to left on the screen and select Setup. In the menu select Maintenance of the printerconfiguration, and then select update of the printer, and then look for the updates of the printer.

If the printer doesn't have the printing problem with PC and not with cell phones and mobile devices, you can try following the steps described in this document of support - printer is offline (Windows).

If you plan to use a USB between PC and the printer connection, you do not need to uninstall the software, you just remove the printer devices and printers on the computer and connect the USB cable.

You can always the printer wirelessly with other devices if you have a computer with a USB cable.

Finally, you need not re-register with the HP Instant ink. You can close the windows when they open after you have installed the software.

Please let me know if that solves the problem, or if you need assistance.

Indeed, if this help you to achieve a solution please click the 'accept as Solution' and the 'thumbs up' buttons down below in this message.

    Thank you!

  • OfficeJet 5740: Install a printer on a network of schools wireless

    Hello

I started school this past week and I brought an Officejet 5740 to implement in my dorm, but I had trouble getting it set up. MY laptop is on the network "(University)", but I was tasked to set up the printer on a network called "Device-(University)" and would continue to operate. I have registered my printer on the network "Device-(University)" also using its MAC address, which I was told was also necessary. After all that, I'm still not able to print wireless. I tried to restart the printer, reset the network settings and remove all software printer on my computer and starting from scratch, but nothing has worked.

If someone has encountered this problem, and if so, is anyone know a solution?

    Thank you!

    Hello

You can also connect to the printer using the WiFi Direct connection.

This type of connection (Wifi Direct) connects your camera/laptop Wifi directly on your printer and requires no Wifi router and is the best way that I would use as LONG as I didn't need to keep connecting to the Wifi network router for surfing.

Also remember to reconnect to your network of WIFI router to get internet connection after printing.

The password to connect to your Wifi Direct printer is in the display on the front panel of the printer, or you must print it with the WIFi button for 3 sec.

    I hope this helps.
