OfficeJet 6500 a: securing wireless printer on home network

Hello

I did some research on it and can't seem to find the answer.  Others say that their problem has been resolved, but I don't see how.

I have an Officejet 6500 connected to the router in my house - I manually entered the IP address.  I suspect that someone in my house (family member) is the impression of the things on my printer because my ink disappears quickly.  It's no big deal, but I thought I'd give the password protect the printer so that they could not connect and print at will.

I have read other solutions, and people say that remove 'everyone' from the Security tab in windows will work, but that only works if I was connected to the printer via USB and share my connection to a printer through Windows.  Everyone connected to my without wire can install the driver and it will find the HP printer on our network, install and they can print at will.

Is there a way to put a password on the printer, so access on a home network can be limited to even when I'm not home?  I realize that they could connect manually via USB - I'm just trying to make more of a pain to print when I'm not around.

I guess I could of pseudo-seggregate my networkt House using a mask of the subnet and the printer on my laptop but my network is a little rusty as I am out of the TI of career and did not want to understand.  I can't find a way to disable the SSID broadcast - which would effectively mask the printing software to find the printer on the network.

I am disappointed that the designers at HP could not put something so seemingly simple as requiring a password to connect to the printer.

Any thoughts there?

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.  If ever I strong enough to play with maybe subnet masks I'll post how it's done, if it works.

Stupid... everything in this world is cheap and poorly thought.  Can't wait until this printer still works and HP stop cartridges or has no drivers for the next version of Windows coming out that everyone starts to use 3 years after the release, so that they can work out the bugs.

    Hello

If you think it's from the 'click 'sound, it could be transport associated cartridge.  In particular, as the carriage moves sideways.  Since your printer is only two weeks, if it was me... I would call technical support at 1-800-HPINVENT Center.  That they had additional troubleshooting to try.  In general, the value 0 x error messages have to do with the cartridges and appear on the front panel when printing and resets usually take care of the error message.

  • My Officejet 6500 more suddenly stopped printing wirelessly from my iPad 2

After working perfectly for several months, my 6500Plus HP E710n Officejet-z does not print wireless from my iPad2 or my iPhone 4 s. I use version 5.0.1 on these devices and had used this version before that the printing problem. I get the following message: "Officejet 6500 E710n-z [11E2A9] the printer is no longer available." The printer works fine (without thread) of my MacBook Pro in OS X 10.6.8 version. I "think" that there was an update from HP before it started, but I'm not sure of the timing. Any ideas on how I can get these mobile devices wireless print again?

What router?  Reboot the router by pulling its plug momentarily.

If this does not work, we will set an IP address of the printer:

-Print a the front of the printer Network Setup Page. Note the IP address of the printer.
-Enter the IP address in a browser to reveal the internal settings of the printer.
-Choose the network tab, then wireless along the left side, then on the IPv4 tab.
-On this screen, you want to set a manual IP address. You must assign an IP address outside the range that the router sets automatically (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') 250
-Apply the subnet 255.255.255.0 (unless you know it's different, if so, use it)
-Enter the IP of your router (on the Page of the Network Config) for the gateway.
-Enter for the first DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for second DNS.
    -Click 'apply '.

Now, stop the router and printer, start the router, wait, and then start printing.

After that, you will have to redo 'Add printer' using the new IP address.

  • OfficeJet 6500 stopped 709n of print, print e-mail messages but does not print silkscreen.

I deleted and reinstalled the driver software, I run WIN7, but drive is not compatible. I have reset my wireless connection and all the test gives a good result. When I try printing an element, as a recipe that has a print button, printing is no beep, no impression is given. I have this printer for some time and it was working fine until, mysteriously, it stopped and gave to this problem. Nothing will in the queue, at the same time things went in the queue but never printed. Help, please!

    Hi CaptainSteve,

I'm sorry to hear that you have problems with your Officejet 6500 E709n.

I have included a link to the driver Windows 7 given that you indicated that your CD is not the driver for Windows 7. HP has a wizard called printer install wizard for Windows 7 and Windows 8.  It will search for the best driver for your printer and your computer, and you went through to install the appropriate driver.

I have also included a document on what measures to take when print jobs are stuck in the queue in case of problems. HP also has a utility shooting known as the printing and scanning doctor.  It is a diagnostic tool and solves many problems of printing, scanning and connectivity.

  • OfficeJet 6500 E709n: Officejet 6500 E709n - 10 Windows - printer automatically a 'break '.

I had my Officejet 6500 E709n for about 4 + years and use it wireless network with my network router. I upgraded my laptop (Toshiba Satellite) (as of December 2014) 8.1 to win to win 10 this week. The upgrade itself went smooth but I had to update the driver from the HP website. Now, I noticed that when I take my Windows logon, I see a pop-up that my HP printer is paused. I noticed it first last night and again this morning. What gives? I thought about posting this here, first to check if anyone else has noticed this.

Thanks Waterboy71! Strangely, when I rebooted after posting my question, I don't see the message "Paused". Very strange.

  • HP Officejet 6500 a: HP Officejet 6500 a and Air Print

I use HP OfficeJet 6500 has connected to my network.  Works very well.  It is also implemented and works with ePrint via email address.

Now, I'm trying to get my iPad and iPhone to print via Air Print, but they will not find the printer.  All products are up to date.

    (1) is the printer must be in wireless mode for direct connection to Apple products instead of via the router and not through the wired connection?

    (2) it seems that this 6500 a has any ability to woreless when I unplug the ethernet cable, even if the guide and the sites Internet says that she is supposed to have wireless capability.  No Option in the Network Setup menu to enable or disable wireless.

    Hello

Must be connected to the same network, as long as it's the network of sae, an ethernet cable should work.

AirPrint is based on good morning, requiring your router to support the transfer of Multicast packets in order to establish such a link.

There are routers that does not support multicast or can with this support, disabled by default, the router is most likely the cause of forums,

If please specify your router brand and model to better understand any possible cause.

Thanks Jack for your contributions, which helped a lot.

The issue was not with the printer, but the PDF itself was a secure PDF document.

I tried to copy the document from my pc to mac and I tried to open the document, and what I saw, it was exactly what was printed earlier in my first post.  Tried to attach my email and once downloaded, the document had only those got printed text (also pasted below).

It works when printing directly from the pc more (with or without wire) finally got. Seems good now.

  • OfficeJet 6500 and router Wireless does not connect

I just bought an Officejet 6500 and try to connect to my wireless router.  Whenever I try to connect the printer to wireless it crashes.  The power button does not light, but the screen is lit without text.  At this point, I can't close or get it running again.  I am running Vista Business 64-bit, and the router is a 2wire 1800 HG through AT & T.  It works very well with a usb connection.

    Thanks in advance.  John

I think you just meet a known issue with some printers of HP network with routers 2WIRE AT & T DSL.

Have identified us the problem and will deploy an update in the future.  So far, the work around is to assign a static IP address to the printer. Here's a way to do this:

    1. Unplug the phone line from the 2WIRE router
    2. Cut the power to the 2WIRE router, wait 30 seconds, then turn on the power.
    3. Go through the normal process of the printer connected to the 2WIRE (Ethernet or Wi - Fi) device. The printer will not crash as long as the telephone line is disconnected from the 2WIRE device.
    4. The Officejet front panel, go to the menu of 'Advanced Setup' under 'network '.
    5. Select 'Settings of intellectual property', acknowledge receipt of the warning and select "" manual IP ".
    6. Select "IP address" and change the last group of IPS (byte) to something higher or lower. Specifically to your 2WIRE router, select 192.168.0.60.
    7. Press Ok and plug the phone line into the 2WIRE router.

  • Problem with Officejet 6500 has more wireless on my Mac running Lion

I just got the Officejet 6500 has more. I was able to make it work with my HP PC Windows XP (would not work with the radio, but it's probably a problem with this computer - connected very well with USB). But I don't see the option to add it on my Mac (main computer) running OS Lion. I'm completely updated on Mac software. I see my other printer as usual (also a HP) on Mac.

Tried to reboot several times. I looked on the HP site to various articles and it seems that I might need to make an update of the firmware on the printer, but when I downloaded the software (on the PC), my printer is gray and so wouldn't let me - or does not need the upgrade. Then. I can't see the printer on the Mac and don't know what else to do. Ideas? Thank you... Is the printer on my wireless network - I can not see the IP address and others.

I don't really know exactly what I did - added to the printer with its IP address and manually the software (added name - I also had a HP update tonight for the printer software, but that only did nothing), then printing I tried and it still would not work.  I used the adjusted IP address, which I found on the dashboard of Verizon. And for some reason, once I put that in manually on the printer, it remained there, even when in desperation I tried to put it back the "detect network" setting. Sorry - but this is not quite logical or in the order.

Also, I restarted the router, then the printer. Somewhere among all the things I tried, to my amazement, it finally worked! At first, I saw the IP address as the name of the printer (which I had entered it), and then he asked to be changed to the actual model. I did it and it now seems to work. Here, I could tell exactly what I did, but perhaps in what I wrote, you will get a glow and know WHY it worked?

I wanted to thank you again for all the time you spent to try and help me get this working. It is really really REALLY appreciated and I definitely click the congratulations for you! Thank you very much!

  • Printer Officejet 6500 E710n-z of printing error problem?

For the printer HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z all-in-One series

    Linksys - Cisco router wireless

    Operating system: Vista

    Desktop

When I try to print it just says: error?

My old router crashed so I replaced it with a new Linksys E2500 (Cisco) Advanced Dual-Band N Router.  I used to use a wired connection to my router to the printer, but it would not connect with the new router.  So I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled as wireless.  The router and the printer, use the same IP address.  I can see the printer & when I go to print anything, it's in the list of printers.  But after clicking OK in the print page, nothing happens & when I check the State printer through the Panel of order status says "error"?

Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks for the reply!  I finally got to work.  I'm not sure of what really was the problem, but I ended up uninstalling twice and then put it back and he finally found.

  • Cannot connect officejet 6500 to a wireless network on a MacMini

    Product: HP OfficeJet 6500 E710n-z

    Firmware version: CIP1FN1126AR

    Operating system: Mac OS 10.6.8

Error message: unable to connect to the network. MAC address filtering can be enabled on your wireless router...

    Analytical diagnosis:... No filtering: FAILURE

Here's the implementation. My MacMini is connected directly to the Internet. I turned on Internet Sharing in OS X to share ethernet connection of the MacMini to the Internet through an integrated Wi - Fi AirPort card from the MacMini. Other devices such as iPhones are able to see the connection network and access after I provide the right WEP password.

The HP printer see the Wi - Fi, but after that I provide the correct WEP password, it still does not connect and tells me that I must have active filtering by MAC address. The HP is still unable to connect wireless even when I disable firewall in Mac OS x.

I cannot find any setting in Mac OS X to enter the MAC address of the printer.

I would like to be able to use wireless printers features, but can't because I can't clear the checkpoint.

    Help, please.

I was able to get the printer and the computer communicate wirelessly by following these steps:

    1. connect the printer directly to the computer via an ethernet cable.

    2. open the Utility from HP (version 5.0.1) application > click the settings > in group settings of the printer , click additional settings > click Open built-in Web server .

    3. once the built-in Web server opens, click on the network tab, and then click the Advanced Options link in the group Wireless (802.11) in the left navigation sidebar.

    4.1 Network Interface onvalue.

4.2 under network name, set RITS at the same entrance shown in System Preferences > sharing > Internet sharing > AirPort Options > network name field.
4.3 under network settings, select Infrastructure.

    4.4 Select WEP encryption.

    4.5 authentication sharedvalue.

4.6. Enter the appropriate WEP key WEP key and confirm the WEP key fields.

4.7 click the apply button to save the changes.

    5. unplug the printer from the computer by disconnecting the ethernet cable.

6 re - activate sharing Internet on your Mac if necessary (i.e. If you disabled in step 4.2 to get the SSID name).

After having done that, I am now able to print documents from my MacMini to my HP OfficeJet wireless. I have not tested other functions of the printer to see if I can scan, fax or set up ePrint AirPrint, but at least for basic printing I can do wireless (for now).

That will suffice until I can buy a dedicated wireless as an AirPort Extreme router.

  • HP OfficeJet 3830: 3830 HP wireless printer is offline in "sleep mode" and don't wake up to print

I've just set up a HP OfficeJet 3830 as a printer connected to my network wireless domestic (Airport Extreme Base Station router 802.11ac wireless). I was able to print-out of my MacBook, but when the printer goes into sleep mode, it appears offline and unresponsive to print. I have to restart the printer for her to appear online and respond. The printer will be in the basement, so it would be very inconvenient down to reboot just to print it. Kind of defeated the purpose of a wireless printer. I tried to disable the sleep mode to see if it works, but sleep mode settings cannot be disabled in the printer preferences. I already spent 3 hours to solve this problem.

I contacted HP technical support to solve the problem. The person told me restore default settings and then unplug the power to the printer and the router wireless for 30 seconds. After restarting the router, then the printer, we have connected the printer to the network with a static IP address. Who did the trick. Even if the printer is in "sleep" for several hours, it has not disappeared in offline mode, as it is done before. Problem solved for now. Hope this helps others.
