  First of all, can you have click here to review the methods of support for scanning your computer Mac OS X 10.5. I understand that the document that I talked to said it is for Mac OS X 10.6, but I assure you that the steps are the same for Mac OS X 10.5 operating system.   I have a computer that is running Windows 7 (updated) with a 6600 Officejet attached via the USB port. It worked fine for 3 years, BUT I had to reinstall the printer 7 times in the last 2 weeks. When I turn off the computer at night and turn on the next morning and I begin to print something, I get "no printer installed." It SEEMS to make no difference if I turn the printer off or leave it on when I shut down the computer.

  Thank you for reaching out to the forums! I understand that whenever the computer is restarted, you must reinstall the printer software. I'd love to help you.

  I have provided a few steps to try to see if we can solve this to happen again in the future.

  Here are the steps to completely uninstall the printer from the computer.

  In devices and printers, click once on any icon listed and select the printer at the top of the display server properties, click the driver tab.

  Select the 6600 Officejet then click on delete, the pop up dialog box.

  Select Remove driver and driver package, click OK, click Yes in the confirmation pop up message. (if they are not in the list, it's very well)

  Then in the printers and devices window, right-click and select remove device for Officejet 6600 drivers.

  Unplug the USB cable from the computer.

  Uninstall the printer software.

  Restart the print spooler:

  Click Start, run, type admin in the search programs and files box and then click on the list management tools.
  Double-click Services.
  Right click on print and left spooler, click Properties.
  Click on stop to stop the print spooler.
  Click Start to restart the print spooler.

  Run the Microsoft Fixit Tool: diagnose and automatically repair Windows files and folders problems.

  Reregister Windows install:

  1. Quit all programs.

  2. Click Start, run, type msiexec / unregister in the Open box and click OK.

  3. Click Start, run, type msiexec/regserver in the Open box, and then click OK.

  4. Restart the computer.

  Hello, I solved the scanning problem is none of the above. It turns out that this printer is not backwards compatible with usb 3.0 ports. I bought a USB 2.0 expansion card to install it in the computer and viola, it works. I had to find someone with this printer on another computer to check this first. My printer on a USB 2.0 on a different computer worked well. Problem solved
