OfficeJet J4580: Trouble getting EXCEL to print files

My HP Officejet J4580 all-in-one (currently logged on a HP Pavilion dv9000 notebook) prints more EXCEL files. So I tried to fix the problem by reinstalling the software drivers from the CD initially supplied with the printer. Download the latest version of the driver software was not possible since the HP Web site. Please note that printing of the PDF or WORD files are possible; copy and fax as well.

I've also updated to Windows Vista, but without success to solve the printing problem.

  • I have trouble getting my default printer driver settings to stay as my default.

Is it possible to lock the current drivers as default without having to select a preset every time?  Also I have problems when printing from Adobe software, it seems to use a radio button this conversion "uses JPEG2000 maximum available resolution.  It has made my life miserable with print time 45 minutes.  Is there a way to disable this feature?

    Thanks in advance!

    Murph da wrote:

Yes it is. Used by OS X printing system is called CUPS and through its page web, you can set default values for the driver.

First step is to open the Terminal (located in Applications > utilities). Then, copy the following line of text and paste it into the Terminal and then press enter

    cupsctl Web interface = yes

This will display the web page of CUPS.

Next step is to open Safari and enter the following information as URL

    http://127.0.0.1:631 / printers

This will show the printers you have installed on the Mac. Select the one you want to change the default settings.

With the printer display mode, you will see two menus - Maintenance and Administration. Click on the Administration menu, and then select set default Options. Depending on the driver used, you will now see a new view with some headers in text, such as installed Options, generals, banners, and policies. Click general. This will display the current driver settings. Scroll down to locate the setting that you want to change, and then select the setting you want. Then scroll all the way down and click the set default Options. You will now need to enter your Admin user account and password. The web page now that the default options for this printer have been defined.

Now, open a document and select this option to print and check that the default has been changed.

Click here to download and run the utility > HP print and Scan doctor.

    Hi BartBart,

If you are properly able to print to the printer using Notepad or Wordpad, it indicates that the driver and the printer work properly. If you are unable to print from an application program, then you need to watch this program application to understand why it is not printing on the printer. If you run the full features software driver that is available for this printer, you can choose to install only the driver without any other software. See screenshot below.

  • I can't and never been able to open a file that was previously saved on hard disk by selecting the print option to get in the print dialog box

I can not and never been able to open a file that was previously saved on hard disk by selecting the print option to get in the print dialog box. Firefox displays gooblygook, even if the name of file is an html element, the Notepad of Windows crashes, MS Excel does not recognize the file type. MS Word also displays goobblys when the file has no file extension.

If you use the file printing, then you will get a file that is supposed to be sent to a printer, and this file has any sort of code formatting for this printer.

Open such a file in Firefox or a text editor can only work if you use one printer for text to print the file to, then make sure that such a printer is installed and selected.

  • How to install printer hp officejet j4580 installation cd

What is the procedure for the installation of my printer hp officejet j4580 of the installation cd.

The disk should have an autorun file which loads the configuration file when you insert the disc. It is possible that you have disabled the AutoPlay feature. Nevertheless, with the disc in your cd rom device navigate my computer. Right-click and choose Open Autoplay or Explore. If you chose open Autoplay Setup file must be run and the installation started. If you choose to Explore a new window will open and display the files on the disk. Simply scroll to the bottom of the list of files until you find the installer. Double click on it and choose run. If, for some reason, you can't do either you can click HERE and download the driver. Save it to your desktop, and then double-click it. From there on, follow the instructions on the screen.
