On Mac 10.6.8 using Firefox 19.02 and suddenly get a redirect to a YouTube page when I go to Google or click on the Google results. How can I fix it?

I experienced this for a few weeks. On almost every search. He always goes to the same page of YouTube to a video YouTube - but I NEVER searched for that info. I read that it is a virus or Trojan or a sort of malware it is very difficult to get rid of. A user suggested the ONLY way he could get rid of it was completely uninstall Firefox and reinstall. If I need to uninstall and reinstall, can how cheap (free?) software I use to uninstall every vestige? More important still, how can I be sure to save all my favorites, usernames and passwords somewhere to reinstall later? Or, is there an easier way to fix this wobbly redirection?

Thanks in advance
