On the Satellite L650-12Z DVD player does not work
(this is posted on the US forums who sent me here)
Hello.
I have a bit of a problem with my portable DVD player. If I put a DVD in there, he turns and runs for 2 minutes, but he made nothing read (read: I do not hear the lens engine).
Now, in this age of digital distribution, it is less a problem then it used to be, but it is still a bit boring.
It is also not a question relating to the OS because when I try to boot from a DVD of Windows 7 it also does not work.
It is out of warranty, so I can't send it to cost me money.
Thanks in advance.
It looks like a hardware problem of the optic disc.
In some cases it is only a matter of laser lenses, could you fix this by cleaning up that part.
I cleaned the lens laser alcohol or cotton tip.
Some people recommended this and in my case it helped also.
Of course, this could be a solution only in case your laser lens is dirty.

Satellite P25-S520 - DVD player does not work properly
Difficulty of DVD player or buy the external drive
My DVD player does not work properly, in fact it can never work properly. Recently, I tried to back up my PC on a DVD using Norton 360. Norton did not recognize that the DVD was present. Then I tried to write a text file on a DVD and was a failure. DVD + R and DVD-R media were found to be (Maxwell 16 X).
I could have probably lived with this however, I received a copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 10 on a CD and my Toshiba would not recognize it. I tried the CD in my laptop nearby and it was recognized.
An attempt to update the driver has also fails.
I was able to copy a CD of music last night so that at least works properly.
Does anyone know how can I fix? The important part is to be able to load my new program.
Research on some forums I found that other people have had problems with the Pioneer drive. If the drive can't be fixed, I'm not adverse to buying an external DVD drive. Unfortunately, where I live there is no brick and mortar stores selling external drives and I prefer to avoid the hassle of getting a drive online and discovering that it does not work with my Toshiba. Can someone suggest an external USB drive that will read and write CD and DVD and is certain to be compatible with my Toshiba?
Thanks for any help,

PIONEER DVD - RW DVR-K12D
Driver provider: Microsoft
Driver date: 01/07/2001
Driver version: 5.1.2535.0
Digital signer: Microsoft Windows PublisherAny external USB CD/DVD drive will be compatible with your laptop.
However, you won't be able to boot from CD (run recovery for example) If you are using an external drive.
So, your best option would be to replace the internal drive with a Toshiba drive designed for the laptop. Call an ASP and request a quote.

Satellite L300D-11V - DVD player does not work
Hello
I am a Satellite L300D-11V and the driver on the CD does not work. I think is not the right driver and an update of Windows could have messed up.
Anyone know where I can download the correct driver for the DVD player for Vista? Or solve this problem?Thank you
Mounira.
Hello!
I put t understand why you need a CD/DVD driver or tell you the driver does not work.
The CD/DVD driver for the reader is part of Windows. You don't need one and should not install a new or something else. When you have problems with the drive, it s not the driver, it s another issue.
Now have yellow marks in the Device Manager and can use the drive? On the right, a right click on the drive and select uninstall. Restart your laptop, and the driver should be installed automatically.
Good bye

Satellite U300: Toshiba DVD player does not work properly
Hello, yesterday I downloaded a new driver for Toshiba DVD player (only had the laptop a week or two).
Now when I try to play a DVD it tells me "unable to output the video to an external device. Please change your display device by pressing the Fn + F5 keys after the end of the application"
Now, I closed the dvd and then did as he said with the Fn + F5 keys, but this seems to get me nowhere. It appears the laptop and the lcd screen icons are highlighted.
Any suggestions please?
Hi mate,
It seems that the pilot has some sort of problems. What you might try is to restore the system to a previous restore point.
With luck, you could play your DVD´s again with the player from Toshiba, but I suggest you wait for the next update, maybe they will fix this problem. You can also use the "VideoLan" drive which is freeware and probably one of the best available players that can play almost all formats. If you want to try the drive, then just go here-> www.videolan.org/
Otherwise, you can perform a restore, use the Toshiba DVD player and wait until toshiba released a new update that works...

Satellite A100-447 - DVD player does not read some discs
Hello
I have a 4 month old Satellite 100-447 (PSAAN), came preloaded with Vista Home Premium and a carpet * CD/DVD super-multi UJ-850 s player.
The DVD player does not work properly. It will recognize a few blank, but never DVD-R DVD and won't recognise any DVD at all serious. He is very good with CD and DVD movie discs. It's just recordable DVD where there is a problem.
Also when you try to write to a DVD, when he chooses to recognize a TI-error in half way through.
What can I do?
Thanks for your help.
AdamHello
You can do the follwowing:
Go to this website http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp,
Download the latest update of the firmware for this drive, install it, and then try again.
Sometimes, the manufacturer must update their readers for the newer recordable media and so I think that it is possible that your drive is simply not up to date.

Hello
There are two possible reasons why you are not able to copy anything to the CD or DVD.
First, it may be possible that the drives used are not entirely compatible.
In such cases, it s always advisable to test different CD and DVD from different manufacturers.Secondly, the issue could be related to a defective laser lens; in many cases, this can happen because of a physical constraint. If the laser lens can not calibrate in a good position, then the player will not be able to handle the inserted discs.
This could be the worst case, because this issue is not repairable. Just a STRANGE replacement could help. -

SaniHello
> This problem start after a storm in my area some time ago.
Because other devices don't work properly and because procedure didn t get it back help you solve this problem, I think that the problem is related to the hardware malfunction possibly that the motherboard was hit by lightning, which would explain the problems
I think you should ask the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country to check the motherboard.
But in my opinion, that the warranty does not cover the issues of environmental impact maybe your household insurance could help you

My Dvd Player does not work. When a disc is in, it makes some noises but never charges upward. Had this problem when I first bought the laptop but a parent set. Now I don't know how to solve the problem again.
Maybe the lens needs to be cleaned or maybe gear or bearing broke. Seems like a hardware problem. Better do inspected by a mechanic of the computer. S.Sengupta Media Center MVP

What is the faulty drive, or the software that is missing
Hello
What happens if you close all programs and then insert the disc?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have problems with CD/DVD drive:
Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.
Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.Your CD or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Hi, I have Windows Vista and I use a computer laptop Dell studio. When I insert a disc into my CD/DVD drive, the drive spins and it looks like it is about to start and makes the same noise start several times and then just stops. My computer does not record that there is a disc there. If I double click on the DVD drive in 'My computer' it ejects my disc and says "insert the disc in drive E".
I went on the 'repair' Microsoft online scanner and it told me that there is a problem, but he can fix it. In Device Manager, under CD/DVD-ROM readers I have Optiarc DVD +-RW AD - 7640S. Under device status - general - properties, it says "this device does not work correctly. He also says that I have the updated driver.
I even uninstalled the driver as a last resort and then restarted my computer. It reinstalled the driver for me, but there was no change. Please help me!
Hello
Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
