• I'm trying to interconnect a XP home and a XP Pro with a Firewire 1394 through a Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus HARD drive cable to share the HARD drive and also run a home network.

  Is it possible for me to take the files of XP Home that has installed 1394 controller and use the 4 files that I found marked 1394 in I386 to form the controller on my XP Pro, more driver 1394 in \WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS to close the loop and enable the ethernet connection both 1394 on both computers to have two computers connected to the Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus as well as HARD drive the network. I was hoping maybe even replace the ethernet cable and use the connection 1394 through the Maxtor which has several types of connectors on it.  Again, I am trying to install a controller 1394 on a computer that has no 1394, than USB 2.0. so that the XP Pro machine will recognize the 1394 card with my home XP firewire cable to the Maxtor HDD which it is already connected to the XP Pro via USB 2.0? I have you confused yet?

  I found a post of S.W. video dated the 05/01/11, which has been handled by Gokul T and treated with the Firewire cable and video on a newer operating system, so I thought I would test Gokul T or someone else to resolve this situation. I couldn't find a controller IEEE 1394 I could just download and install on my XP Pro machine. These are the two Dell, is an inspiron 5100 with installed 1394 with taking and the GX280 is one without the 1394 controller installed, or the socket.

  You will need a firewire to XP Pro card. The drivers are already on the hard drive. Once the card is installed, you will see the icon of the network for this adapter. So you can use it.

  No XP is not installed, but it was installed before W7. Anyway, I solved the problem. The asnwer is that all Maxtor mini III One touch external USB key comes with software that allows you to encrypt disks require a password to open the disc. If the password is enabled when you close the last time, then this will bypass the detection of the drive in disk management. You open the disc in an XP environment and hell security as it does not work in W7. After you do this, the disk is available in W7. This site has been a great help:

Otherwise, that's the right driver to use? Where to find it?

  I have studied the issue and found that Maxtor One Touch III is perhaps not compatible with the 64-bit version of Vista.
  If you have contacted the OEM, and they can provide you with a driver, it may not work.

  I have a Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini external hard drive that has been formatted to originally a Windows XP computer. I have a new computer that uses the Windows 7 operating system. The drive hard Maxtor are not accessible by the new computer. Although the new computer reconizes the device by its name, the Maxtor Manager window displays the score as 'unknown '. Maxtor/Seagate technical support said that I need to move the files from the old external hard drive Maxtor on a new Seagate, external drive, using a Windows XP computer. Is there another easier way?

  The Windows 7 Compatibility Center shows that the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini is compatible with Windows 7.
  However, given that it is a product of the 3 part, you go by what the Seagate support said.

  While I was looking at the Seagate site, I came across this One Touch 4 is only designed to work with 32-bit operating systems only and is perhaps the reason for computer detects it not.

• Maxtor One Touch Plus 4 500 GB external hard drive no longer works.

  Okay, so, I got this hd for about a year now. Never had any problems with it, and I also have a 1 TB WD external hd. The WD it still works perfectly. However, the Maxtor suddenly stop working on me on 30/06/10 while I was using it. I have music files and art for the work I do on a Web site stored on that hard drive. I got my music running and had opened the hd on my Toshiba laptop to work on things that I have towards people. My music has stopped playing its own and the hd show me the files in that my images and things were, but when I clicked on the file, there is no files inside. So, I turned off my computer and unplugged the two hds from the computer for an hour. Their return to and turned back on the laptop connected. I can still enter the WD hd, but the Maxtor one, I can't. Any time, I try to enter it, it tells me I need to format it before so I can use it. I KNOW I have not formatted and kept Microsoft Security Essentials and Spybot S & D up-to-date. I went to the Seagate/Maxtor website and did all the troubleshooting it. I also switched usb ports (my laptop has 4 of them), the cords between my works still WD and Maxtor usb and even tried to uninstall drivers and reinstall them. All my work is stored on this hard drive Maxtor and I really would rather not lose him if I can help it. I also tried to Exchange power between external hds two cords. The WD we still works perfectly then the Maxtor always told me, I need to format it. It appears on workstation as drive Local (e) instead of the name, that he was initially awarded. I know I have to not format or delete anything out of it when he started to do this for me. I hope I can recover the data so that I don't have to just start over and make people wait longer for what I owe them. (Graphics types of work on GaiaOnline a few different "shops" on the Web site.) I also hooked the hd up to a desktop computer to see if it was a problem with my computer, but even on a different computer, it still says I need to format. I am running Windows Vista, the desktop computer is running XP. Hd has also worked on the desktop before it stopped working on my laptop.

  Am running SeaTools to see if that will find and fix everything that could cause this problem.

• Windows 7 & Maxtor One Touch external HD is NOT RECOGNIZED

  I have installed my software/drivers Maxtor. When I plug in the USB it sounds, but no player is visible in Explorer of files or disk management. When I run the Maxtor software, the drive does not appear there either.  It appears as a hard drive in the Device Manager and as a device in the control panel. Thank you very much for any help!

  I don't remember exactly, but I was able to get at least my maxtor is up and running on my new PC, but equipment is outdated or something and does not work (I'm quite positive, it says on the seagates site, you can look at the compatibility of products with windows 7 and II of maxtor works) (, but the software does not work). It is now something like a giant white flash disk/hard if you want to. I had to use my brothers PC XP and install the equipment while I was able to remove the security settings, I had put in place on it and wipe it clean and back in shape. Although I already had a copy of all the info on it, I reformatted knowing I could back up again. You can try to remove only the first security settings if you can, if not reformat is inevitable. I did this guy four times... don't say not it is necessary, but it's a warning that I can remember exactly what has been loaded. After removing the safety and fitness (as SAM said, I think it's the part about unlocking your password protect that allows at least 7 to recognize and he pop up), I connected it to my new computer, and it was to the less recognizable. I remember in disk management under management of the computer to 7 settings have some title to it, not not not allocated, but not in offline mode. It was something that I did in one of the options when right clicking this player in this management records. I was able to designate on offline, and then to online. After that, he has worked since. Play around with it and good luck.

  This is a rather confusing questions and about * me off no end!  I know that some of you may have encountered this already and could have a potential solution?

  I have an Acer Aspire all-in-one, AZ5101 (Aspire Z5101), with 4 GB of RAM, etc..

  Since the Developer Preview of Windows 8 came out, I've been running Windows 8 perfectly.  I completely uninstalled (each time itself) and run the following:

  Windows 8 Developer Preview, 64-bit

  Windows 8 Preview of consumer, 64-bit

  Windows 8 Preview, 64-bit version

  In any case, on this PC worked perfectly - y INCLUSIVE of the TOUCH SCREEN.  I never had a problem.

  So far so good.  Then, they finally released updates Windows 8 Pro official licensed by download.  I bought the upgrade and downloaded.  Just like in * ALL * other cases, upgrade, I chose "keep nothing" of the old system (I never really got all the important data on here), and do the upgrade itself.

  After the upgrade was complete, and ALL Windows 8 Pro updates have been applied by Windows update, I have a system where the screen is clear and precise, everything works, and all devices in Device Manager, show the Greens well, it works fine - NO ERRORS.  HOWEVER - NO CONTACT!  No touch no screen function at all.  The screen now has this time as a standard monitor.

  I tried the driver Idéacom - no luck.  Anyone know (please? LOL) how to get the touch screen to work again?  Thank you very much!  I really appreciate any help you can give.  Microsoft technical support had NO idea and no reply emails from Acer! Laughing out loud
